The sashimi platter he ate : the white thick cut chunks were swordfish belly pieces most likely. Salmon pieces as he said. The thin strips were flounder. Sea clam. The red meat was some tuna, hard to tell if blue fin, bigeye, albacore , yellow fin or other (it could also have been bonito which looks very similar to tuna meat). The lighter tuna looking chunks were most likely yellowtail or kingfish. The green leaves were shiso leaves also called Oba (tastes a bit like a mix between basil and mint). The shredded "vegetables" he mentioned was shredded Daikon radish.

As an Englishman raised on fish and chips, I gotta say Halibut House looks pretty good. The chips (not french fries, Ken, c'mon!) looked spot on, exactly what you would find in the best spots in the UK. Halibut is regarded as the steak of the sea, it's a really tasty fish and definitely one of the more expensive items and not available at most fish and chip shops, I'll usually order it if I find somewhere which does it (The Magpie Cafe in Whitby, UK is the best spot for me). I'd love to give that place a try one day, if I ever make it to Canada, I've always wanted to visit Toronto. One day!

I actually started working for a Halibut House location in Toronto as a PTer at the beginning of fall 2020. You have to ask them for lemon. I personally like their haddock vs the halibut, its a thicker piece of fish so you can go crunchier on it without overlooking the fish. The cod they use is very flakey. The shrimp are i think 16/20 black tiger.

Hey Ken, as a British man I have the duty, as well as so many others to say that your fish and chip shops are bizarre but I love to see the differences. In our fish and chip shops you have just cod and haddock among other things like Rissoles and Pasties. And no, our fish and chip shops don't have lemon either, it's tragic

Surf clams. Not sure about the folded one and solid brighter white one, but the one next to the 'normal' red tuna was albacore tuna.

Hey Ken, great video!! I have a question about your house special at the Halibut House. As I was double checking to see if there was a location here in Bowmanville(& there is. I will try it soon) I looked at the menu list to see what exactly was included in the house special & saw listed as part of the special was a garden salad. Did you recieve that or did they forget to include that in the special or did you just refuse that? Just curious!!!

I forgot to answer the question about using a lemon wedge for a meal like that & yes I thought it was abit odd to have a meal like that to not have a wedge of lemon to use at least for the fish(not sure if youd use it on the rest of the meal but the fish for sure) & the other thing is I agree with is the fries nice & long not too thick or thin & not wedges but fries

@ff eater Yes I have. I don't like the texture just like Ken doesn't like the texture of cucumbers. If you like Sushi then that's great. Vivre La difference.

Usually Asian dressings like that, at least here in the states are made with Mayo, Rice Vinegar, Sugar, Sesame Oil, and Soy Sauce. 😊

Do a day where you eat only at restaurants own by the same company or a day where you do a theme like all food you eat is international like Mexican, Italian, Greek or something like that
