Bought the Pecan pi + and love the sound. I have a Marantz steamer that is Heos which I like and works well for Tidal which is all I use to listen to music. I can output Toslink to the Pecan Pi but must use a converter to coax digital and none of my files at 192/24 will play. On my third cheap chinese $20 converter which is all that is out there. They are explicitly rated for 192 but don't work. How can I just simply get Tidal, preserve the higher res abilities of my Pecan Pi and make this work?

Sorry at the moment it is the DAC only. Leo mentioned just use my existing streamer since I like HEOS but issue is he only has coax in not optical to go from my digital output of the existing streamer. I hate relying on a 20 chinese part for an 800 DAC even if it was working properly which it isn't.

Hey Leo, is the volume control on the PecanPi dac the type that lowers down the audio resolution or not ? Thank you

​@@Philo1Regardless of how you use the volume control be it the knob on the unit or the software, it is done digitally. A properly implemented digital volume control can equal that of analog ones these days. What is extremely important with digital volume controls is not to raise the noise level at the output when it is being performed. With the streamer's SNR of 133dB, I doubt you will hear any difference between digital and analog volume control. Especially when adding an analog volume control will only add noise due to the additional parts needed. I recommend reading the white paper below. bel canto different tier and almost 2x the cost.Its class d at the highest level especially as you go up the black line.There a cutting tech design team.The orchard system very very good for the price but I will not compare the two as its not fair.I still give the e1x the best value component in the world there no weakness from anything it offers .Dac,pre,power streaming and phono stage are all unbelievable.Its cheap for what it offers the user

Hey brother. I saw on the volumio page you can rip cds in their software. I’m wondering if you can hook up a cd drive and hard drive to it and make that happen. Did they mention anything about this.

You can rip most CD,DVD USB drives connect to Volumio I prefer a local USB thumb drive to lower noise

Yes, you can do this. As the streamer can only provide 500mA of current max to all USB devices the CD drive would need to be externally powered as they are usually power-hungry.

@@HeavyBeats24the short answer is no, please review the information on Volumio's Ropieee's website and Roon's websites to see what you get with with those options. There are way too many differences to list here. Also note that with Roon my devices functions as and end-point only you need a separate server.

well we will see how long until you give in to technology.It exists and there is no denying it.Anyone that does not will be left in the dust without even knowing.I have had so many topologies over the years Carl and I prefer the cutting edge now over big bulky amps .Although I will not buy this amp the bel canto e1x I own is a world class reference sounding piece.You will have to change and cash out at some point so when you do do not close your mind on the technology that exists today and just continues to evolve

What would you say are the differences between the Starkrimson and NAD M23?

hard one to answer honestly as going by memory isnt a fair and accurate comparison for me to share it.I will just say the Star crimson js a very good amp just extremely fast its quite an experience but I did not have it hear long and had no preamps other than his streamer premium to drive it.Overall I think it is superb value

Then let me ask like this… Did you think the NAD M23 was a piece of great value? Just that you started off not liking it (M23), then liking it, then not liking it. If I interpreted your videos right😅? Cause in Norway after tax and shipping the two costs the same.

Its surprising that Orchard Audio would think your channel would be able to do it much good. You usually only get around 300 or so views. Steve Huff on his channel, who gets tens of thousands of views sometimes, once reviewd an Orchard Audio Class D amp. Both of you guys are very hair challenged by the way, but he's not viewer challenged. Kidding! It will be interesting to see if these lightweight Class D amps will evolve into amps that displace heavy Class A amps and such. I kind of hope they don't. 5 years from now, will we see Class A amps like that which get thousands of dollars used, selling for mere pennies on the dollar?

Yes cutting edge tech exists hence owning the bel canto e1x.Surprising you would think that. I think not .Its genuine and quality over quantity I would say. I get a fair amount of views for 1.25 years in.People can choose who they feel has real knowledge and who is just entertainment.I am not even a reviewer as I do not need content provided for me for my channel to grow as I just share my experience over a long time and try to direct people in the right direction if I have been there to back it up.I am doing things very differently.Some love it and some do not.I am a lover of the small audio guy thats why Leo and Orchard are gracious to send there products because both my ref systems are mainly from very small or boutique companies.I have a biz of my own so I am not to concerned with subs this is just to help others the best I can and also learn from some wiser folk.

The Orchard Class D amp got a very good review from Steve. Would love to hear their equipment. The good old days of moseying down to your local high end audio shop and listening to gear are a bygone era now for most. Did the Starkrimson ultra 2.0 have great Dynamics! Did it have great mid bass and low bass punch? I would love to know how they sound when it comes to Dynamic punch on Spatial Audio M3 Triode Master? ...Thanks

it was too difficult to pull everything apart to use Spatial so my assessment was using Totem embers.I would say yes to all the above and the speed was something that really stood out.I know how much the triodes love class D hence I run them with my bel canto e1x and cant see gan fet not pairing great.What amp do u use now? is it not engaging you?

@@greatlookinglandscap I had AGD The Audion MkIII monoblock. I recently sold them. AGD Audion are great but trying to find something that comes close to there sound with out the big price tag. My AGD Audions where setting behind my M3 Triodes they where to pretty to be there in my opinion. I need something less attractive, I like my system pretty much hidden and closed in with no dust holes.
