I never understood how this fish can manage to grow to large size being a sort of slow swimming buffet for sharks, orcas and seals. It has basically no defence mechanism what so ever.

i think one of my favorite things about marine life is how many marine predators let humans watch them hunt. i've seen incredible footage of people getting right up close to sharks feeding. it's interesting to me how they could become very possessive or territorial and do harm to divers but don't.

@@riskvideos Incorrect. They're just terribly misunderstood. The "fact" that they're stupid and useless is actually false. They have small brains, about the size of walnuts, but are still able to process multiple things and respond to their surroundings well. Captive sunfish were shown to adapt really well and trust the humans caring for it in a day. If it were truly stupid it wouldn't have been able to adapt that fast. They have many mutualistic relationships with various fish and seabirds, having the fish clean them from parasites. The fish/birds that clean them get a meal and the sunfish is cleared of any parasites on its skin. It's a win-win, and the fact that sunfish manipulate this is another indicator that they are not stupid. They're pretty smart for utilizing it. They may potentially be used to keep track of jellyfish blooms too, as they are often seen when jellyfish are abundant in the area, as jellyfish are their main food source. Very weird fish, yes, but they're also very magnificent and a nice fish to study. Useless? That's completely false. We know more about them now, and their potential is definitely showing.

Oh wow, that is a Hoodwinker Sunfish. It was only discovered in 2015, this is likely a video of one and people didn't even notice it. The coloration matches a Hoodwinker Sunfish.

I feel a bit bad for the sun fish when they swim away from him... he's probably like "wait, please, please, wait, take me with you!" as he is left just awkwardly bobbing waiting for one of the most powerful predators on the planet to come and eat him up. Sad times. Cool video though.
