Orca Encounter (Full Show) - SeaWorld Orlando - March 1, 2023

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

It was great to get to see all 4 segments of Orca Encounter again! Some of my favorite parts this show include the drawings on the glass for Nalani at 8:45 and Trua's side breaches at 2:30. See below for more highlights:
0:36 - Intro with Makaio and Trua starting with Makaio's kicker
- 0:50 Trua's bows
- 2:30 Trua's side breaches then Makaio's center back breach
5:18 Husbandry Demo and Play/Volunteer Segment with Katina, Nalani, and Malia, starting with their pod swims
- 6:25 All 3 whales fluke present to demonstrate the blood draw behavior
- 7:35 Malia slideout to demonstrate the weight behavior
- 8:45 Drawing shapes on the glass for Nalani
- 9:40 Malia's sighting bow at stage! (thumbnail)
12:28 The very missed Hunt segment with Makaio and Trua, starting with Trua's fluke splashes
- 12:44 Makaio slideover
- 14:37 Trua slides over to the back pool
17:11 Finale with Katina, Nalani, and Malia, starting with Katina's fast swim
- 17:37 Malia's sighting bow and backdive
-18:48 Malia's front flip
- 19:48 Katina's center belly breach
-20:22 All 3 whales slideout

Is there a rule that the trainers can’t swim with the orca’s anymore? If yes, since when?

@@fiyamya9967very unfortunate, I knew about the event but havent been to a show in ages. I liked the shows back then tho way more when the trainers swam with the orca’s, but safety first ofcourse. I always wondered why they didnt have something to take out/kill the orca in case they attack the trainer. It happend only 3 times in 20 years, but every time they dragged the body several minutes in the pool while they drowned. Only throwing food in the pool and trying to distract it. I think the deaths could’ve been prevented and maybe we still could’ve had those beautifull shows like before.

@@sten287Yes I agree with you. How did they not have a backup plan in case something like this happens? Like have a person jump in and use a transquilizer or something? I understand killing the orca is out of question seeing that they are probably a million worth property to the company with how much time it takes to train one. But still seems very reckless.

@@SamS.7598these animals are 6,000 to 13,000lbs, a tranquilizer would be very expensive and seaworld would rather buy more roller coasters. Plus with a bite force of 19,000lbs psi by the time a tranquilizer kicks in you’re likely already dead.

As the whales have been treated like dog poop for their whole lives they have lashed out and eaten many trainers, there’s a good doc on NF about it.

I went to Seaworld Orlando in 1978 when I was a little kid. I'm 55 now and I will be back this summer. Can't wait to experience the park as an adult and relive so many great childhood memories. I remember watching Shamu do his show and that has always been my fondest childhood memory.

Two questions: 1. Why are the Orcas’ dorsal fins all floppy during the show? 2. What’s the name of the song that plays at the start of the show? I find it really catchy

  • @Echobeluga

    @Echobeluga

    3 ай бұрын

    1. The dorsal fin is made of connective tissue and often bends or weakens if left out of the surface for too long. For example, stranded orcas tend to start to develop a curved dorsal fin and orcas in human care spend more time at the surface than wild orcas. Most adult male orcas in human care have curved dorsal fins, while very few wild male orcas also have curved dorsal fins. This is purely aesthetic and doesn't reflect their physical or mental health. 2. It's a SeaWorld soundtrack called One Song. This is a newer version of it which is unreleased but you can find the older version on music apps like Spotify, Apple Music, and KZread.
