Orbea Rise 10000€ Bike Check - Mullet with ZEB & EXT suspension

Spent the mortgage deposit money on a bike, wife's not happy to say the least.
Just ordered EXT Storia V3 for the rear, that will take a few weeks.

Please leave comments if you have tried the EXT or if you're gone the same route going coil on your Orbea Rise, I'm curious what you think.

Thanks buddy, I'm just starting out. Looking to improve my presentation & language skills. I can't wait to get the EXT on it, I've tried the ZEB on it yesterday and it's so good.

Great build and upgrades 🤙 Do you find since switching to mullet you get more rock strikes with the lower BB?

  • @suspensioncheck

The Orbea had already a pretty low bb height and because I swapped front travel to 170mm and changed front tyre to 2.5 it's perfect until I get the EXT coil for the back. I don't really get rock strikes.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I want to make the same settings suspension but i want to stay in 29ers. Do you think that it will be ok or not? Second question.. whats the sensations with 170 front and 140 rear? Thanks

Hi Diego, I think it will be ok, I haven't even tried the 29er on the back because I really like jumping & steep sections and a 29er is not that fun on the back, especially on tight switchbacks. I broke already an Orbea Rise frame, I wouldn't go with a ZEB and I would go with 160mm if I was to choose again. It's better to keep the axle-to-crown shorter and ZEB has a big crown. The back is really progressive, never felt a bottom out, even with 140mm. I actually got used with 140mm on the back but when I put the 160mm it just felt more plush, I could get away with more.

Did you end up putting on the EXT shock? Any issues with the coil rubbing the frame in compression? I'm looking to do a similar conversion with an EXT E-Storia.

  • @suspensioncheck

Yes, I have it since dec-jan. It does rub but only slightly and under full compression, I bottomed out a couple times and it's still fine, it just took a tiny tiny bit of paint.

Got my rise coming January, thanks for sharing your build. Have you modded the motor? I'm keen to change the region to get slightly higher assist speeds. I currently ride a banshee titan mullet with ext shock, it's amazing so keen to hear your experience!

Yeah buddy, no issue running it at 78nm with US region & smaller wheel circumference. There's a 6 weeks lead time on an EXT shock so it will be a while :(

The enjoyment it brings it's worth paying for it even if you decide to sell and get something else. Any ebike would be amazing.

Thanks Anto, yeah I definitely overspent and done a few mistakes as changing cassettes, forks. You don't know until you try I guess. Had a Cube Stereo Hybrid 160 2021 bought for 4300 before, fantastic bike but this is 6kg lighter and you definitely feel it, especially when you throw it over a fence, put it on the bike rack or riding it. The heavier bike also had some advantages as being heavier it took a lot of the chatter from terrain and ride was smoother. I've 78NM instead of 85NM so power is not an issue. If you ask me would I do it again? Now that I know the costs, it's probably a no.

@@suspensioncheck its hard to know, i custom my hardtail and normal full sus. Ebike think different but thats just me. I ride in eco turned to low all the time and usally carry a spare battery as i do a good few 70km spins. I would like to build a bike like youve done just the mileage i do i find its easier change an keep motor warranty. Either way to build a custom is nice

That is really quite a bike - and I agree... never write it down! I've just put the e-Storia on my Commencal Meta Power 27. The OEM Fox X2 was great - but the eStoria is shockingly better - and that bike is relatively linear. I'm guessing will be awesome on the rise. I'm awaiting a Rise H10 and will be doing some of the upgrades you've done as well - so thanks much for posting. Can you share the specifics about the off-set bushing that you used for the larger shock in the back? Thank you.

Hi buddy! Ah man, you'll love the H10! I'm actually expecting the EXT Lok 3 to arrive tomorrow, excited to see how I get on with it. For a mullet I understand it's recommended to add 1 token and make sure you stay the hell away from cane creek or other coil shocks with thin shafts. Will add a video after the upgrade, hopefully coil gets here for the weekend.

@@suspensioncheck Great to know! Love a lot of the Cane Creek stuff (but not really into their suspension). I'm in Raleigh NC so they are actually pretty local. Great people. Can you share where you got the offset bushings you mention for the bigger shock. Big looks great - seriously a one-of-a-kind. I know you will enjoy it.
