Orb of Dreamers: Making of LittleBigPlanet Documentary

Ойындар

Orb of Dreamers follows a team of ambitious game developers in Guildford as they go on to pitch and develop what would become an iconic PlayStation title, LittleBigPlanet. Massive thank you to the entire team at Media Molecule for allowing me to tell their story! The tale of LittleBigPlanet is a positive one and such a tale needs to be told, especially during a time such as this.

the moment my dad brought this game for me when i was little i was completely and utterly obsessed, playing it from the minute i woke up or got home from school until i was forced to go to sleep. there is nothing i loved and still love more than this game. i met so many incredible friends and have endless memories ill never forget. I'm devistated about the servers being shut down to this day and would do anything to go back to it.

This is 2 years late, but idc. This documentary is amazing. It gave me so much more information and an incredible, indepth look into the creation of this masterpiece of a video game. I especially love how much care and emotion was put into the video. The music, quotes from the developers/art director and the visuals were just PERFECT additions to the video. This wasn’t just a documentary, it was an experience. Well done man, well goddamn done ❤️

To this day, I am glad to say there were only two game franchises which actually made me want to stay up late just to keep playing. One was Dark Souls, the other, this one. I used to have so much god damn fun fooling around with the game it felt dreamish then, and still does feel that way whenever I look back. I truly, TRULY wish I can relive this sort of experience someday, because the end of my time with this cute little fella spelt the end of the best years of my life, and the start to a life of spiralling down to a constant state of wanting to do everything and just wanting to lay in bed.

If I ever see a new LittleBigPlanet game, I can only hope it reignites the original feelings of LittleBigPlanet; being someone in a world bigger than yourself created by the dreams of people around you. It had such a genuinely crafty feel to it. Things felt realistically put together so it actually felt like you were in a world made of the mishmashed, dreamy recreations of the world around us

I literally cried whilst watching this. I thank god for my sisters ex-boyfriend for bringing LBP2 to the house and giving it to me. I met my best friend for 8+ years on there, without this franchise, I legit would not be who I am today. Little Big Planet was a safe space, a haven where I could simply be my annoying kid self and make the weirdest shit ever and laugh about it. Roleplaying, costume creation, copying other peoples works/objects (AKA community objects); it was everything I could ever dream of. Ever since they officially closed servers, I honestly still haven’t completely gotten over it. I made so many memories on this game, good and bad. Recently however, I’ve seen a resurgence in LBP content on youtube. Cute and funny memes of SackBoy “shaking his sack booty” for Stephen Fry. It’s stupid, I love it 😭. Oh I also forgot to mention how amazing the community is, to this day it’s just full of amazing and creative people. God I love this game, I could go on about it forever but just to cut it short, thank you so much for creating this documentary. Not only does this video deserve more attention, but so does your channel 💗.

thank you for this. i was 4 years old in 2008 and had the opportunity to be on Australian reality show "domestic blitz" where i won a new PS3, my first gaming console. I was allowed to choose one game for my prize. I chose little big planet, the first game i had ever owned. i must have played this game every night with my brother when i got home from school up until i was like 9. There was something charming, comforting in the artstyle, the blend of genres, the music, the volatility. I played all the levels i could, and i had so many favourites. these days I'm in artist and it wasn't until recently i realised that some of my style was influenced by things like the textures and sticker sets of this game. to learn how it came to be; built from the ground up by a team with an idea so unique, full of nerve, to being played through the majority of my childhood has really been a nostalgic trip for me. this video made me feel a lot of things

My story with LBP starts with the PS3 designated demos. I was really, really young when I started playing. To say that the saga has impacted my life would be an understatement. I'm now a teen essayist, artist, and content creator looking to take that next big creative step, and I have decided to go back to LBP to figure myself out. I've always been curious about how LBP came to be, and I'm really happy that I've found this video. It presents itself in such a pretty manner, it feels so cared for. What a wonderful documentary! So inspiring. This game was absolutely a game changer and still the golden standard of perfect balance of a standalone video game and a platform for games. It is very interesting to hear that the "tactile world" vs "digital tools" was an internal debate within the team. You can absolutely feel the former taking over in LBP2 as opposed to LBP1, where all the logic was simpler, more physical and out in the open. As a kid, I really appreciated LBP2's tools, but these days I yearn for the craft world feel of LBP1.

Rag Doll Kong Fu!? From the same guys?!?!? Insane. The arm-control feature is still in lbp too, wow. Me and my friends played that game like crazy. And I put thousands of hours into both lbp1 and lbp2, these devs are absolte legends. And the YELLOWHEAD SKIN, it's freaking dev lore, holy. I think the game I'm currently most looking forward to is Hytale because it promises to be like minecraft but with official support for integrated modding tools (sharing their own 3D software and other tools with the community so they can make content.) And as a game releasing for PC it will have even more range than lbp ever could as an exclusive. LittleBigPlanet had a really profound impact on me. I even created an extra PSN account because I ran out of space to release additional levels. One of my levels got over 1.500 plays and I remember all the kind comments of players encouraging me to make sequels for my levels. I remember letting my online friends testing my levels and trying to find bugs.. It was such an amazing experience. Thank you so much for creating this video.

Cmon, this video deserves so much more love! It’s so in depth and such a great documentary of the game we all grew up with, bringing back nostalgia from 2010, 2011 I’m so glad this came up in my recommended :D

Honestly, this makes me go back to when I first played it on a ctr because I didn't have a hd tv at the time. Spending hours with friends just causing havoc, chilling in the playstation home space, creating levels, making memories, and sapping the shit out of each other lol. Dreams is great, but it needs multiplayer. Just seeing this video and witnessing the build up of the music as is splashes into that iconic logo has me wanting to go back and play it again every single time. It's a shame that the servers for the games on ps3 are down signaling the end of an era, but hopefully it opens the doors to a future of magic and imagination coming together to form something beautiful.

This is an amazing game. I got this game after playing the demo on psn for my little brother when he was 7 or 8. I ended up playing the game with him. We had a lot of good time playing, laughing and creating. Little big planet 2 is the best little big planet ever created.

Thank you so much for making this. I'd done a bit of my own poking around on the topic of Media Molecule before, but I was really happy to be shown so much new insight into the making of this game I love so much! Such an inspirational video too. Shows all the work and thought and love and care that goes into a product this good. Thanks Mm, and thanks Pumpkin Dynasty :)
