I don't know how well this reproduces the sound of the real Orange Dual Dark 50 head but it sure sounds great! The STL AmpHub is still one of the best choices if you want a quality high gain sound in your mix. If you combine it with 3rd party IRs (not to mention Mikko2 or the GGD cab plugins) the possibilities are endless.

Yeah I haven’t used a dual dark but I watched a few review videos and it seems close enough without doing a proper A/B test. Yeah I’ve been using cabinetron to manage the IR side of things and typically run all sims through those because it’s a consistent footprint I can get out of everything. I made a last minute decision to use their IRs here cause people might complain they don’t have the ones I have etc 🤣. Totally spoiled for choice on how to mix and match rigs these days!

@@ampspedalspickups It is completely understandable that you used STL's own cab section. As for IRs and other cab solutions, option paralysis is brutal. (Edit: never add up how much you spend on these + plugins in a year.🙃)

Hahaha yeah it’s heavy. I grabbed a few IR packs for $10-20 a piece at BF, few small plugins but nothing major (I bought other stuff don’t worry). But I finally think I’m in a good place with plugins and virtual instruments (and real ones). Most of the demoing I do now is for fun or if people send me stuff…. Should probably do a video on “stop the plugin fomo”, rabbit hole is way too deep

@@ampspedalspickups Yes... there is always something you "need". The best is when I regret that particular purchase. 🤣It's worth buying these during BF but if I add everything up at the end of the year, it's still a lot. 😅 Lately there is a limit ($) that I try not to exceed.

I'd suggest also looking at (much cheaper) alternatives, especially for newcomers to VST amps: Otto Audio II II II II or anything from Audio Assault (they've got like 6 or 7 models which are $10 each on sale),

the plugins don't mimic the bright cap very well. when you bring the gain down it doesn't sound quiet like the original!

In my experience I think this sounds more like a mesa dual rec with an orange guitar butler pedal in front…there are some delicate nuances that make the orange sound in terms of the eq curve that I don’t hear here although i think they nailed the overdrive architecture quite well. It sounds great although i don’t feel it is like an orange amp much

Doesn’t surprise me about the dual rec reference, I sometimes feel like the gain on STL stuff has an underlying certain characteristic (that I like). Would love to try one of these first hand to compare

you can get some gnarly distorted tones with P90s. thats definitely not your problem.

P90s are insane for fat tones as long as you use a boost and a noise gate

Wow I was exited for a second. Renting software is like voting for oligarchy a to b. Promoting it is relative to campaigning for oligarchy. I’d rather pay 3000 bucks for the amp, Than steal from my kids, the way my parents generation did.
