But reality in fully different on ground level. There is not a council for optometrist, no minimum salary bar fixed by government for optometrist, everywhere recruiter barain for salary, want a all rounder optometrist in low to low wages.

Yes, indeed, unfortunately this is also part of the reality that we as Optometrists face. There seems to be some hope in the form of the National commission for allied and healthcare professionals bill. Optometry subjects ki apni understanding strong kijiye, jobs aapko mil jayenge. Har hospital, clinic ya fir store ko skilled Optometrists ki zarurat hai.

Hello Gurvir, thank you for your comment. Ophthalmologists aankhon ke doctors hote hai. Ophthalmology ke liye aapko MBBS aur fir uske baad specialisation in Ophthalmology karna hoga. B.Sc in Optometry ke baad aap Master’s in Optometry aur uske baad Phd bhi kar sakte hai, fir aap doctor of philosophy in Optometry ya allied health sciences kehlayenge magar, Ophthalmologist nahi ban sakte.

Hello, thank you for your comment. It is strange that the college is providing a Bsc degree without internship. Optometry programs must have an internship. You should look for a college with internship. Another option is to do the degree and simultaneously opt for an internship at a clinic or optical outlet. Hope this helps. Optometry me scope to definitely hai. Hospitals and eye care clinics me Optometrists ki zaroorat hamesha rehti hai. Aap kisi Opthalmologist ke saath nazdiki se kaam kar sakte hai.

Sir koe scope he nhin hain Mn boht pareshan hu , Abhi diploma he kiya hai ismn but bsc k liye yahn koe clg b nhin aur scope private jagah b nhin milte .

This is the only medical course in India where u will become sales person rather than eye care professional if u join retail sector. Only if you want to start your own clinic or join hospitals to save the designation then you can join otherwise reality is worst

Unfortunately, some professionals do end up becoming sales person in the field of rertail (which I am assuming that you mean sale of spectacles when you say retail) but, I would not blame the course or profession for it. There is scope to still be an expert Optometrist in the field of retail as well. Spectacle dispensing is not simply a sale of a commodity. It is much more than that. Optometrists are trained in General and Physical Optics where they study about how light behaves and its characteristics. Optical dispensing is a crucial aspect of optometry that involves the fitting and dispensing of corrective lenses (glasses and contact lenses) to patients based on their visual needs as determined by the optometrist's prescription. This is an essential skill for optometrists, and it is typically covered as a chapter or module in their education. It teaches them to understand prescriptions. This includes knowledge of refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Optometrists learn about the various types of lenses available, including single vision, bifocals, trifocals, and progressive lenses. They understand the advantages and disadvantages of each type and how to select the most suitable lenses for a patient's visual needs. Optometrists learn how to help patients choose frames that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also appropriate for their prescription and facial features. This includes considerations such as frame size, shape, and material. Optometrists are trained in taking accurate measurements for the fitting of glasses, including pupillary distance (PD), segment height (for bifocals and progressives), and other relevant measurements. They also learn how to make necessary adjustments to ensure a proper fit and comfort for the patient. Optical dispensing covers the different materials used in lenses (e.g., glass, plastic, polycarbonate) and various coatings available (e.g., anti-reflective coatings, scratch-resistant coatings). Optometrists learn how to educate patients about these options and recommend the most suitable choices. In addition to glasses, optical dispensing may also include education on fitting and prescribing contact lenses. Optometrists learn about different types of contact lenses, proper fitting techniques, and patient education on lens care and hygiene. Optical dispensing emphasizes effective communication skills. Optometrists learn how to explain prescription details and lens options to patients in a clear and understandable manner. They also provide guidance on proper eyewear care and maintenance. Optometrists learn about the ethical and legal aspects of optical dispensing, ensuring that they adhere to professional standards and regulations in the dispensing of eyewear. Overall, optical dispensing is a comprehensive subject that equips optometrists with the knowledge and skills needed to provide patients with appropriate eyewear solutions based on their visual prescriptions and lifestyle requirements. After all of these if they still become sales person, I don't think it is the profession to blame.
