Most of the music was there for his anxiety. Because man I was feeling it too. I couldn’t imagine having to go through something like this and then realize I could end the world and if it works I’m still the reason the world might come to an end in the future.

I really enjoyed this movie, that last 30 mins was great. All of the actors were bringing their A game. Rami Malek, RDJ & Cillian were great. Im happy to see Josh Hartnett acting again! I'm really interested to see if it will win as many Oscars- at minimum, the score of the movie deserves an Oscar. My only complaint was when some of the dialogue was muffled?? Even without the music, some parts I couldn't hear the convo. They needed subtitles at some parts

I definitely agree. I put it below Interstellar, Inception, Memento, The Dark Knight. I think my only issue, and I still give this film high marks, was the pacing. Similar to what Tony said about wanting to know more about certain topics. The pacing felt like Tenet, or Inception. And that worked for those movies - quick witted, fast on your feet type movies - but I didn’t feel like that was needed in this. I would’ve loved to see more of the town they built. And his relationship with his kids and how it affected that. The whole movie was POV so I didn’t mind not seeing the Japan aspect, but idk some scenes felt paced to quickly. I mean we spent like 3 min zooming in on a naked Florence Pugh, and like 2 seconds of him crying after her suicide. BUT, that also plays into how his life was shaped as well, he really had no time to sit still or sit in emotions. Or with his kids apparently. Overall good movie tho.

Tony's problem is the same problem I had with the movie. I feel that they played it safe with dropping the bomb. I was hoping that they'd show actual footage of before and after and all that just to drive the point home of what nuclear weapons do and why Oppenheimer felt so guilty.

  • @MisterFoxx

Ew you wanted to see actual footage of a traumatic event? That’s too much. We didn’t need to see real footage to drive a point that happened in real life.

Yep. A great example of this done well is BlacKkKlansmen by Spike Lee. The real footage of Charlottesville that played in the end changed the whole movie for me. It was masterful directing on Spike's part. A similar thing definitely could have worked with the Oppenheimer movie.

The scene where Oppenheimer saw a vision of a charged body drove the point home for me, because that body's image was based on a real photograph taken after the bombings in Japan.

Like you, Tony, I’m very fascinated with WWII so this movie really peaked my interest. Cillian Murphy is also one of my favorite actors. He’s great in Peaky Blinders, by the way. I really loved how Emily Blunt’s character, Kitty, got fired up during the hearing and didn’t take shit from the lawyer. 😂 I liked the movie overall. Though, I do agree with you in that I would’ve liked for them to go more into how the bomb affected Japan.

I really loved this movie, I think it’s really more compelling after just graduating college with a STEM degree. They didn’t go too deep into the science but the little that they did was all clicking for me which was fun to see. Definitely top 5 Nolan film for me. The score was also amazing for this movie, the constant random crescendos were great because they were all a buildup for the final explosion. I did find the test bomb explosion a little disappointing at first but after the scene in the stadium where Oppenheimer was walking through the people and seeing the effects of the bomb I was sold. Whole movie had some of the best performances I’ve seen from all the actors. Only problem was sometimes the dialogue could be hard to hear but other than that I loved it.

I was not expecting to be met with quantum physics, physics, relativity, theology, philosophy, and so much more science at THE TOP of the movie… Killian did an amazing job at bringing the Genuine Truth Seeker out of Oppenheimer, and to another point, the internal struggle some went through to… the idea of discovering ground breaking methods to be used in this circumstance (shout out Einstein)… I MUST rewatch this because energetically, I WAS NOT prepared for the aftermath of the bombings 😂 I’m like “ Damn, we really IN this case all the way through huh?…” because I caught the 10pm showing SUITED UP man for immersion… but there’s a lot to take in AT THE TOP!… so if you have a genuine interest of philosophy, wisdom, knowledge, politics, justice, truth, BIG DRAMA… man see the movie. It’s winning Oscar’s confirmed. 💯

Showing the bomb dropping or shifting perspectives to those in Japan would have been jarring. He wasn't part of thes that process and learned about it like all of us did. The scene where he addresses everyone and has a somewhat panic attack with impressions of it happening in his mind was enough especially as it was Oppenheimers perspective (and the scientist outside becoming ill).

I really enjoyed the film. I am fine with the bomb scenes because the imagery and dialogue that was used to convey the heaviness it weighed on Oppenheimer. The loud music may have been used to keep the film intense but it can be conceded that hurts the dialogue. Cillian Murphy gave a great performance as Oppenheimer and Robert Downey was outstanding as Strauss. Both of them deserve some award nominations as well as Emily Blunt. Josh Hartnett and Florence Pugh also stood out. No weak links in the cast honestly.

Nolan rarely misses (Tenet isn’t a miss to me. Just too highbrow for most people). He just needs better sound engineers. RDJ did a fantastic job portraying someone wearing a nice mask, who feels angry and under appreciated. He was perfectly weasely and sneaky. The most memorable scene was when Oppenheimer’s face began to fall and he realized what he made. Truman really did call him a crybaby. My fave Nolans: 1. Inception 2. Interstellar 3. The Prestige 4. The Dark Knight…

I remember at the beginning of the film, a professor was explaining physics. "Physics is a paradox". That it can somehow be something, and not that something at the same time, and I feel that that sense was used to portray Oppenheimer's character. The ambiguity that so many people complained about. Spear-heading the creation of most destructive weapon ever known, to becoming an advocate for peace. Is he a Communist or a Patriot? Many aspects of the film reflect that sense, I think. And, maybe the weapon is a paradox. Recently, scientists have actually used nuclear weapons to change the course of an asteroid. Maybe this weapon, instead of used to annihilate the human race, can someday save life on this planet? Now that would be a paradox I can get behind haha.

This movie was DOPE, and I didn’t need to see the carnage of the bombs in Japan. I honestly didn’t want to see it as I know about it, saw some footage about it, and with watchin this film I already walked away feeling dread. I didn’t need to see those innocent ppl go through that. Also the fact that after this huge bomb at that time was made, other countries followed suit, and now we have even more destructive bombs. I got the point of the movie. My top in no particular order. Interstellar, inception, the prestige, Oppenheimer. Tenet is for sure last but the others can switch place’s depending on my mood.

I didn't care for the movie: I don't care to see my favorite Nuclear Physicist without his trousers. (This reminds me of the movies "Titanic" and "Pearl Harbor" where very interesting human interest stories could have been developed around the history , but instead, it's a Love Triangle, yawn yawn and more skin than plot development.) A MUCH better movie was made years ago, called "Fat Man and Little Boy." While it doesn't completely focus on Oppenheimer, I think that you might find it to be the better movie that covers this. All the Best! 73 DE W8LV BILL

I would say soft 4.5, for me, probably like 4.3 if that's possible. Momento, Inception, the Prestige, Dark Knight is probably my Mount Rushmore Nolan movies. All those above Oppenheimer with Inception and Dark Knight being solid 5's. I put Opp equal with Interstellar. I was let down by the bomb honestly, but the rest of the cinematography was amazing, I liked the score, I felt that and the pacing made a movie that was mostly dudes talking about science most of the population doesn't understand feel high stakes and engaging.

"Now there's some titties in it" lol you right. A lot of the reviews I've seen mention that the sex scenes felt unnecessary. I kiiiiinda agree. There were 3 total if I remember right. The first one was just to show that he gets off on being better than everyone, and he's a bit full of himself. I feel like that was already pretty obvious by that point in the movie. The sex just put a pin in it, I guess. The 2nd bit of nudity was actually not needed imo. They were just talking after sex and just happened to be butt ass naked. You could argue that was to show that they had drifted apart a lot, but again, I feel like that was kinda obvious already. The 3rd scene is the most interesting one, and I think this is why the other two even exist. It would have been extremely jarring to have that last scene without preparing the audience for it with the first two. The whole thing is really weird and awkward, but I think that's on purpose because it's weird and awkward for everyone in the room. So they want us in the audience to also feel weird and awkward. It's a nightmare scenario for everyone involved. Overall, I think they pulled off what they were going for, but ultimately it was all pretty unnecessary. Maybe it's simply so people can say, "There's titties in it!"

Uncommon opinion: The Dark Knight was trash only bolstered by Keith Ledger's supreme performance.

Also because of the sex scenes.

Interstellar and Dark Knight are hands down my favorite Christopher Nolan movies. This one was good I just think it was too loud and too long. Robert Downey Jr. was great. Florence Pugh was great too. (I’m biased because I’ve loved her since Midsommar) I do want to watch it again at home though because something about the theater makes me sleepy so I was fighting heavy eyelids by about 90min in.

This movie need to be put in an incinerator!!! For the whole 3 hours. While it is burning we need to be praying for the cast; that God Doesn’t cast that whole cast into hell!!!
