Come with us as we take you on an adventure through two of Colorado's most beautiful routes: Ophir Pass and Last Dollar Road. These dirt roads feature steep cliffs, narrow shelf roads, and breathtaking views of the San Juan Mountains.
Ophir Pass is a mountain pass in Colorado that connects the towns of Ophir and Silverton. It is about 10 miles long and has an elevation of 11,789 feet. Ophir Pass is one of the six Jeep Badge of Honor trails in Colorado, but it is the easiest requiring only a moderate lift and 4WD. The road is mild as it winds it's way up from US 550 to the summit, but becomes a rocky shelf road with one major switchback as you come down into Ophir.
Last Dollar Road is a dirt road that connects Telluride and Ridgway in Colorado. It is about 18 miles long and offers scenic views of the San Juan Mountains, the Lizard Head Wilderness, and the aspen forests. It can be treacherous in wet or snowy conditions, but is easily traversed during the dry season.
All in all, Colorado has some of the most beautiful scenery in the US and we highly recommend you visit. You can rent a Jeep in Ouray and explore many of the epic mountain roads, aspen forests, and historic mining ruins in the San Juan Mountains.
