Lyrics
Falling inside again
This nightmare always the same
Still never enough
Halting at the brink of discovery
Moving into the darkness
Leaking inside to cover up
Dragging me down and under
Entangled and undone at once
Old memories
I'm not in need but wish to know
What are the tragedies
The history behind the walls
Pacing further down
Familiar children's laughter
Dissonant and out of time
And their eyes are dead
Watching myself in a pool of water
Wearing the mask of a ghost
Smeared all across my skin
Rotten earth and insects
Endless night
Always preserving the calm
Movement behind
Bleeding animals in a field of fire
There is no absolution
Death is but a fairytale
They are mere visions
They are afraid of me
Clear insight
A smoke is rising nearby
Dust covering my coat
Blend together to spell my name
Pale, covered me with sweat
There are no words left
Sole provider of death
Distorted faith in myself
Human harvest burning
Blackest pages turning
Twisted perception come true
Captured in dreams connected
Staring right back
Spiritual decay - Still seeking
Frozen in time
Mourn this departure - All watching
Calling me back
Closure to bleak matters - I'm leaving
End of a search
Coming of morning
Calling me back
Closure to bleak matters - I'm leaving
End of a search
Coming of morning - Returning

This album leaves me speechless. Sonically it's one of the heaviest records I've heard in my whole life and...at the same time it's beautiful. The melodies seamlessly connect from one and the other and create a journey. It's a kind of genius that you just don't see around...even after 20 years.

Mikael Akerfeldt’s growls sounds like if you mixed black metal vocals with death metal vocals dude can growl stupid low but the distortion in his growls and how long he is able to hold his breath reminds me of a lot of black metal very drawn out phrases and spooky and haunting while also laid back but brutal as fuck.

I saw them once in November 2005 before Mikael stopped screaming on the albums. Great live, they sounded like they did on the albums, it was awesome. No, they didn't play this song, although I still got to hear Deliverance among other really good songs that night/day. This is a favorite of mine, too. My first Opeth album and discovery of this band in like 2004/2005 sometime. Thanks to my younger brother for channel flipping to the music stations in TV.

I recently stopped smoking weed, will not do it for a few months, but I cannot wait to hear this awesome stuff once I am high again because its as psychedelic as it is heavy. Ever read a paper or a text message while you're high? I forget everything around me and try so hard to read it. With music it's the same but WAY more powerful. For those few minutes, everything except for the Opeth song you're listening to isn't there for you. You're being dragged through a whole journey.
