Lyrics
Losing sleep, in too deep
Fading sun, what have I done
Came so close to what I need most
Nothing left here
Cut the ties, uncover disguise
Left behind all intertwined
Lost control, moved out of the role now
Nothing's left here
Leave it be
It was meant for me
Soul sacrifice
Forgot the advice
Lost track of time
In a flurry of smoke
Waiting anxiety
For a fair judgement deserved

This song has the best guitar solo Opeth has ever done
lets take a moment to appreciate the drumwork from Martin Lopez. He is missed in Opeth and one of the most unique drummers in metal!

One of Opeth's most underrated songs. Love the trademark Akerfeldt bluesy solos.
Adding blues/jazz elements to a song in this genre without killing its melody is just a remarkable feat...and its a really hard thing to do...they're doing that...
The outro is out of this world.

Hello fellow king crimson enjoyers
So many of Akerfeldt’s lyrics sound so much deeper than just the main intended meaning. “Leave it be, it was meant for me. Soul sacrifice, forgot the advice. Lost track of time, in a flurry of smoke” really sounds like the obvious idea of your life coming to a close, but it’s also kinda describing your duty in this world and just pondering what it even means to be a human. Like almost regretting fulfilling your role because it prevented you from being more present

Not at all. Before I was 'into' these metal genres, I thought anyone listening to metal was always at high-tilt. Now, one of my absolutely favorite (and by far most relaxing) things is to be drunk on an airplane, sitting at the window, really getting into and analyzing some metal tracks - not always mellow ones like this, either. Often this is Opeth. Rooster is right about the heart rates.

That solo gives me chills every time I hear it (same feeling I'm getting from Mastodon's The Czar - spiral part)!! I adore this song!
Leave it be, it was meant for me. Just beautiful.
The outro riff actually tricked my ears the first time I heard it. The way it descends or "walks down" made me think it was lowering in pitch every time it repeated. It's fucking genius, best riff ever written in E Standard easily
This song to me has the most opeth (old and new) solo section ever and I love it so much for that reason

The outro to this song and most Opeth songs are so fucking amazing. Its like they give u a present for listening to the whole song and reaching the end.
Lost track of time In a flurry of smoke...
When I'd get home after dieing in the sun at work. I'd sit. And put this on, or "When". And play it a few times with a beer and joint and sit by my beautiful wife and just think - absorbing the day, preparing to hear her, to motivate myself again somehow for tomorrow. It was my ritual. It always pulled me through...I'd put the music on before I even sat down. I needed it.
I perfectly remember the first time I listened to this masterpiece. I used to listen to music to sleep during Highschool, and I had downloaded a random metal list into my Ipod. I was already sleeping, but then this came in, and I had to wake up immediately and was totally mesmerized by it, and my jaw dropped with the heavy/soft riffs, final solos and outro. I put it on repeat several times trying to process the mastery. I already knew Opeth a bit by then, but I am sure this is the song that made me a huge fan ever since.
so calm and beautiful! Opeth at their best! Epic solos and riffs!

6:20 is divine
9:41 that lars urich inspired fill
The intro reminds me of DK64 Creepy Castle theme, some parts of the level, it just reminds something from the game...

His voice in the beginning sounds like Greg Lake´s. So wonderful...amazing music.
I feel like all the pain and sin of hell falls on me and I cry it out to who I love and tell how much of an escape that person is out of suffering. I enjoy this pain as an emotional unexplainable concentrated mind fuck. Perfect to expose my mind into a masterpiece any day of my life.

The sections starting at 3:48 and 4:33 are sublime, with the mention of the title of the track in the lyrics, at 5:05. The riff starting at 5:28 is just too beautiful and, somehow, reminds me of "Orion", from Metallica's _Master of Puppets_ (1986) album.
