Their drummer Waltteri is a perfect match for the band. Awesome!

I love how into it Mendez gets these days when he's playing bass. He used to just kind of stand still and wave his hair back and forth but he's really gotten into navigating the stage more and making his presence felt. He's so great to watch.

Yes, Mendez is fuckin' awesome. I also wonder if it maybe has to do with the new drummer? It's an amazing feeling to synergize with a really good drummer, and Walt seems pretty incredible. It's like the whole band has a new energy about them in every new live video I've seen.

This new drummer has totally re-invigorated the band. They’re playing everything fast as fuck and it’s absolutely brutal.

Absolutely! They sound like the old opeth again! I did really like Axe but he definitely started playing everything at a slower tempo once the Heritage era started. Really hoping for some old mixed with new opeth on the next album!

Agreed. I honestly think Waltteri is the best live drummer they’ve had. Obviously Axe and Lopez were great, but Axe played too slow and Lopez’s tempo was all over the place. It seems like Waltteri is able to play at the faster tempos without fluctuating too much.

with any luck maybe that also means they could be doing some heavier stuff again for a new album. Not to mention their new set is mostly the death metal stuff with a few later songs sprinkled in, and his growls do sound quite good lately. I remain hopeful(I enjoy the newer albums, but man it's been SO long since they did any death metal).

I'm really happy seeing this videos, Opeth is sounding heavy and brutal like they used to be, even if they don't release any death metal song in the next album they playing like this live is was a dream from every Opeth fan
