LYRICS
Lost, here is nowhere
Searching home still
Turning past me, all are gone
Time is now
The omen showed, took me away
Preparations are done, this can't last
The mere reflection brought disgust
No ordeal to conquer, this firm slit
It sheds upon the floor, dripping into a pool
Grant me sleep, take me under
Like the wings of a dove, folding around
I fade into this tender care

Maybe the most overlooked track on Blackwater Park, but certainly one of the best Akerfeldt ever wrote. The epitome of melancholy. Poe only wished he were alive to hear something this depressing.

How is that an overlooked track?

Fun fact: the first HEAVY (not the clean intro) section until the vocals come in was written by Peter (the first two riffs at least, possibly not the leads).

I would say it's probably because their concerts now are at least in half a rock songs. They stopped playing metal music especially death metal around in 2008. These 2-3 songs for the whole concert don't change much, it's not the same, it's not a metal band anymore. I guess at least the money is right, but they should change band name ;)

yes it took me nearly 5 playthroughs to go holy fuck this is amazing. I find prog metal is extremely difficult to get into at first then it just turns into an actual addiction
This is the first Opeth song I tried to learn on the guitar some 15 yrs back ... the intro, outro and everything in between is just beautiful... couldn't help crying after listening to it after so long.
Mendez is so awesome! Hardly moves throughout the whole song yet has so much stage presence. And plays incredibly well.
God damn... I should never, EVER have let that opportunity to see them perform with In Flames pass by. Next time I see they're touring, my ass is there.

This has always been, and will always be my favorite Opeth song. I've never been lucky enough to hear them play it live, but this version is pretty excellent!
This kind of thing is what Opeth is missing these days. The composition style that allowed for masterpieces like this. I don’t care that they don’t growl anymore. They’ve proven they can still write great things without growling (see: damnation). I’m sad we’ll probably never hear amazing songs like this in the future

What a song
I was there! The end of this song was one of the highlights for me. To be sat there with hundreds of people being as quiet as they possibly could while Akerfeldt's haunting guitar echoed around the Royal Albert Hall is something I'll never forget!
Without meaning to use the term lightly, it is a musical masterpiece. Mendez outdoes his performance for the studio recordings with stunning jazzy improvisation. Ackerfeld is great though imo doesnt come across quite as melancholic as in the studio version. Outstanding live rendering of a song.
@Meshuggapeth

alexis georgiades Opeth isn’t an improv band at all. Mendez and the boys use the same flourishes across many live performances to add appeal. I agree though that they are fantastic live
The ending is like a hug to my soul calming my depression.
His songs are like Klimt paintings. So beautiful colours and so dark at the same time.
cant explain how much ı love this song...
I love how the croud isn't jumping around like crazy... They are in awe, as I would be..
Top 10 all time for me. When I first heard this in 2006 I was mesmerized.....and I am still am.
This album simply blows minds away...
this band is very good
Absolutely astounding as is the whole of the Blackwater Park album , i never ever ever tire of hearing it 😍😍
This entire record is a masterpiece!
When I listen to an Opeth live performance, I'm much more impressed by the fact that they are so incredible that many times during acoustic interludes or just when the music quiets down you can hear a fucking pin drop in a crowd of thousands of rowdy metal heads........it actually gives me chills, I can only imagine what it's like for the band to know that their audience is hanging on every note, That silence (at most live performances of Opeth, not all obviously) is simply amazing.
The feels I get from that lead that starts about 48 seconds in... WOW... I love this live, I've seen it 2x now.
I wish Opeth still made music like this.

Opeth, the ultimate outro boss. THis one ; deliverance ; Harlequin Forest ; Burden! Other times it doesn"t really sound like an outro, but the climax is still in the end like in Demon of the Fall. And I forgot tons of good examples...
