Operation: Recall - Color studies are complete! A look at the process.
Ойын-сауық
Color studies are complete! Ron Rudat and Mark Pennington prepared six color options for each of the Operation: Recall figures. Then Kirk Bozigian and R. Carson Mataxis reviewed and marked up revisions. Carson enlisted the Operation: Recall concept creators to quickly revise and review additional color studies for each character, before landing on which colors move forward into production.
Thanks to Ron Rudat, Mark Pennington, and the Operation: Recall concept creators (Chris Scott, Scott Brown, David Emmanuelli Martinez, and Chad LaForce) for their time and talent!

fantastic video, I love seeing these updates
Congrats to the whole team. These figures look amazing with these updated paint schemes. I hope your ankle heals, quickly. Keep up the great job, gang. Thanks for the updates.
I hope you continue doing these updates. It is interesting to see a toy line come together from beginning until release.
These look great !!!! I cant wait for these in hand !!!!
Thank you for the in-depth video confirming the color schemes & final designs, really helps me choose which to back (which was most of them lol)!
With content this great I hope you break more of your ankles! Fantastic choices
I love seeing these color studies. What a neat process to be able to see. I’m glad to hear you mention that the bad guys will have that red (can’t remember the exact color you said) so they will have some uniformity.
Bravo! Can't wait to have my first backyard battle with these recalls!
I'm loving these walkthroughs Carson. Thank you!! Shhh, is a personal fav mostly for the level of different that it represents.
These look absolutely amazing! I can't wait for the next stage!
looks great
I loved the original shark design that’s why I had ordered two. Hope your leg gets better. Can’t wait for these figures to come out. I was all in. And then bought extras lol but hope they get made before the next Chinese new year. It would be a fantastic Christmas if they get made in time this year
So cool, everything looks outstanding 💯
Looks great. Thanks for keeping us updated and keeping the excitement and anticipation going. LET"S ROLL!!!!
Awesome! So cool you used Layka for Hellhound inspiration, her and SSG McDonald are fantastic Rangers! All the way!

Hooah!
Everything looks great. Can't wait. Keep up the great work.
These look fantastic! General Mortifero could really use a cape. Maybe draped over his left shoulder.

Funny you should mention that, that was one of the options we discussed during the color studies process!
Bear claw needs a frontier style tomahawk. Would make sense.
In the final contact sheet, you're not showing the third round Bengal. The brighter color additions (the pink sari, particularly) were a great improvement. Don't forget those!

Noted, thank you! We used the correct version as we moved onto colored sculpt sheets (with the 360 views).
Fantastic update with everything looking spectacular (I probably wouldn't prefer red-colored construction tools but being an Army vet makes me appreciate that Navy peeps might be a bit flamboyant 😝). Keep up the great work and Let's Roll!
pretty cool, may I suggest robots and cyborgs in the line. kind of like the 'borg' from tng, or the bats or terminators, the ED 209 left quite an impression too, so did the snakes armors. also, I really like the V wing concept jet pack, very nice design! good work team.

I do love robots and cyborgs. Hopefully year two!
Sorry to hear about the ankle pain and injury. Hopefully quick healing for such an important support for the leg. These color themes for the characters look really cool. Layka is a talented war dog. Scar from the Lion King, that's true. Great showcase of the art work. Mortifero, Cadaver's and Reaper's red and gray/black look cool.
Man, I can't wait to have these figures in hand. The Wrestler, Bear Claw, Lilith & Salty Dog are my favorites. This video came right on time, sdcc gave us nothing so far.🤦🏾♂️
Just stumbled upon this! Pretty cool. Any chance at 6in line?

We’re starting with 3.75” o-ring, but there’s no reason we couldn’t expand into 6” modern figures with the IP we’re developing. In fact, we’ve discussed the possibility with another independent toy company.
I like the concepts. Are they supposed to be styled as 3.75" O-ring?
@3djoes

Yes sir! We are sculpting them on vintage style 2up bucks, and they will be scaled down to 3.75" with a little variance for short (Runback) and tall (Mortifero) characters.
The line across the girls face reminds me of the GIJoe figure night creep leader. Didn’t like that. It would be cool if you made shades instead of a line. Shades on the sniper from India would look super cool or war paint on her face. Think about it. You can still change that to look super awesome
Cool, these remind me of the old GI Joe Marvel comics when they had these pinups of the characters like Spirit, Jady Jaye and Duke.
Couple of thought and questions if i can... 1. Honestly, as much as i prefer Shhh in his original colors ( that dark blue-purple version by boy's father ) i can't wait to see this as a cartoon, cause he's beginning to be such a ripoff of Stormy v2, that it be a chance to finaly have SS in camo in an animated show, after all those years ;) 2. Now about Breacher, since this version is so dark, are You going to give him a new and brighter v 1.5 in the near future? 3. And is his helmet's "mouth" gonna have an ability to talk? Like Destro's mask always talked, even tho it probably shouldn't, will this one stay the same way all the time, or will it have some tech installed in it to give it an impession those teeth are alive? 4. I'd say Scrounger's and Bearclaw's final versions are the winners here, even tho they started as my least favorite characters, cause they were some of the least original by "design". 5. And lastly, can i ask You what program did You/designers use for those final colors studies? I mean, they look so smooth, in Cadavers, Bengal, Night Raid and Saulty Dawg for example...

1. I would love nothing more than to see these characters animated! 2. I definitely would like to do a brighter version at some point, with an alternate headsculpt, perhaps? 3. Now that is an interesting proposition, and one I have not thought of. It could be one of those programmable LED screens like I’ve seen kids wear at raves. 4. It has been a ton of fun watching these characters evolve, and I do feel like all of them have improved along the way. Much of it will play into the storytelling as well. 5. I believe most were working in Photoshop, and one in procreate.
Im lost. Why is Larry Hama and Rudat not working on gi joe? Someone please explain.

Ron Rudat has not been employed by Hasbro since 1999. Larry still writes the G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero comic. It’s coming back shortly with #301 from Skybound / Image.

Most look great, but I have to say...the blue on Ozzie is really bad. It kind of ruins the figure that I was most excited about. So many collectors will use this interchangeably with their Joes and we all know that Horror Show is nearly impossible to get and ridiculously expensive. I am sure many will use Ozzie as a stand-in for Oktober Guard. I know you want to create your own line, but the blue on Ozzie is a really bad choice. Grey and black and red would have been okay, but brown and fatigue green with black or grey accents would have been much preferred. Disappointed with that one....
Awesome designs. But why is it that whenever there is an Asian character, it’s always female (Runback + Pac-Dog). It’s never an Asian man. There is no Asian man character in the list. And if ever there is an Asian man character, he just has to be a ninja or samurai from Japan. Why can’t an Asian man character NOT be a ninja or samurai? Asian characters (both male and female) are stereotyped as being ninjas and samurais. I know these designs were made by Caucasian men. But why not design an Asian male character who is not a ninja or samurai? How about an Asian male from countries like China, Korea, Vietnam, Philippines, etc.? He doesn’t have to be a ninja or samurai from Japan.

Glad we broke the ninja/samurai stereotype for you. She’s a brilliant roboticist. We’ve got a pretty good mix of men and women, and we’re covering many cultures and ethnicities so I’m happy with year one. Your specific desired representation may make an appearance in year two. Try submitting an idea when we do a call for submissions.

@@3djoes I'm not saying that I am offended that the Asian characters are female. In fact, I think they are awesome. I was just hoping to see at least one Asian male character. But as you mentioned, he may make an appearance in a year or two. And I will be waiting for the time when you call for submissions.
