Operation Midnight Run - April 2015
April 12th, 2015: Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) assisted the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office in the rescue of 85 adult dogs and puppies and four cats found living in extremely neglectful conditions at a home in Manchester, TN, about an hour northwest of Chattanooga. The animals were surrendered by the property owner.
Dogs of a variety of breeds, including Golden Retrievers, Shih Tzus, Yorkshire Terriers, Border Collies, Poodles, and Great Pyrenees, were found emaciated, living in complete darkness, several inches deep in their own feces, soaked in urine, in dangerously high levels of ammonia. Dogs were found in a garage in plastic and wire crates that were rusted shut and covered in cobwebs, in a barn in makeshift, pressed wood stalls with no windows, and locked in rooms of the house, surrounded by garbage and trashed belongings. The dogs themselves were so filthy and matted that some of their breeds were not immediately identifiable and some were matted to their cages by their own excrement. Animals were found in critical condition and rushed off the property to a veterinary hospital for emergency care. A wheelbarrow full of 10 deceased dogs covered in maggots was found on the property.
ARC received an emergency call for assistance from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office yesterday evening. The agency had received a complaint earlier on Saturday and responded to the property, where they found numerous violations of county and state animal cruelty codes.
“It was immediately obvious that we were going to need assistance in removing this large number of animals and getting them to safety as quickly as possible,” said Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Danny Ferrell. “Animal Rescue Corps was the only organization who could help us both document the scene and safely remove the animals and they were on the ground in less than 12 hours.”
ARC safely removed the animals from the property and transported them to an emergency shelter set up by ARC for this rescue, dubbed Operation Midnight Run. Each animal will receive a thorough veterinary exam, appropriate vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatment. ARC will provide daily care until the dogs are placed with approved shelter and rescue organizations around the country that will ultimately adopt them into loving homes.
Animal Rescue Corps performed Operation Midnight Run in conjunction with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. American Dog Rescue and BISSELL Pet Foundation provided critical financial resources. New Leash On Life - Middle Tennessee Animal Welfare Organization in Lebanon, TN and PetSmart Charities® contributed essential equipment and supplies. Animal House Veterinary Clinic in Clarksville, TN and Premier Vet Care in Smyrna, TN provided emergency veterinary care for this rescue.

Your organization is incredible. Saving these babies, no one can thank you enough. I am a owner of a mill dog and she is our world. She spent the first 7 years of her life in a cage in horrible conditions. I am thankful for all rescues.

My mom just adopted one of the dogs rescued, a little chihuahua named Pez (he's the one on the vet table at 7:48) - he's a little love and is settling right into his new home. My folks had just lost their little rescued Jimmy (another chi) at about 18yrs old and they wanted to to rescue another chi in need and found Pez online. Pez is going to have an amazing life with them and their other chi Dora (who he was instantly buddies with). All the dogs in our extended family are spoiled rotten and loved as members of our family. Just thought you might like hearing about a happy ending for one of the dogs from that horrible place.

Thanks to all the rescuers, I recently rescued 2 dogs and one of them came from a deplorable puppy mill, she is 5 and its was hard to get her use to grass and just being outside, my other dog is 7 and she was neglected and keep in a crate all the time, she was so scared of her freedom, today they are great and can not wait to be let outside to run and play. THANK YOU RESCUERS EVERYWHERE

So was the "proprietor" of this hell hole arrested or charged with anything? These crimes need to be prosecuted to the maximum, and the laws made felonies and made consistent (harmonized) at the federal level. Dog fighting rings and puppy mills must be put out of business everywhere, along with making animal cruelty a felony punishable by big fines and jail.

goatgirl61 There ARE laws....and that's why the Sheriff Dept called ARC....enforcing laws starts with people who see these things happening getting involved. Call the authorities...and don't just stop there...make sure they respond to your call, follow up...make them enforce the animal rights / cruelty laws. Law enforcement must be made aware and held accountable. Thank you to the Law enforcement in this town, and of course to ARC. We love you Scotlund and crew.

ARC is simply an AMAZING group of rescuers. To anyone who really loves dogs - please think about giving these people a small (or large!) monthly donation. I've been donating for quite a while but suddenly, due to my own dog's poor health, I've had to suspend those payments. Rest assured as soon as I can I'll be reinstating my small monthly payments. If you're unsure who deserves your charity, look no further. These people are committed, dedicated and honourable. Do it for the animals. As for this particular puppy mill operation, I hope the folks responsible for this horrific neglect are given the maximum prison sentence w/the highest possible fine. Let's hope the the judge who hears this case loves animals. Anyone who lets dogs suffer like this deserves to rot in hell.
The previous owner of these animals should never be allowed to have any kind of pet ever again, or even children for that matter. There's just no excuse for something like this.

As much as this tore at my heartstrings, I absolutely love seeing the positive results and how far some people are willing to go to save these poor helpless animals. I think the toughest and most heart breaking thing to see was how most of them seemed to have lost all fight in them. They all were so sad and desperate to get out that they didn't resist at all. I'm just glad there's people out there who see them as more than just plain animals. What makes me sad about the world, is that humans are bigger and tougher and have more tools to control others, and these animals honestly have hardly any defense that they can put up. They are literally helpless and they have no idea why they're being treated so badly. Animals have so much love to give but some people only return that love with cruelty. Thank you for saving these wonderful animals and caring for them and giving them the love they deserve.

Fierce Robert Should we say HITLER was mentaly unwell too. I think it's would be inhuman to NOT to be ANGRY! No matter the Mental illness, there are some humans who walk the face of the earth who cause pain and suffering who shouldn't be alowed to exist. This is just one of those cases!!!

I am proud to be an Animal Rescue Corps. (ARC) Angel. It only takes $5.00 a month to become an ARC Angel. $5.00... Think about it. What else will you do today that will impact so much on these neglected, suffering animals who are crying out for help or have just given up. Think about the hope you can provide, the help you can fund, the lives you can save. So little means so much to so many of these forgotten/forsaken individual lives...

Watching this in tears, even though I can't have pets due to illness. I can't imagine the emotional state of people that have animals in these kinds of conditions. Lord people need evaluations before having pets. It's unbelievable what these animals go through and are resilient to trust again. Some humans can't attain such goals.

Nothing upsets me more then seeing how could some people could be so cruel. I usually don't wish ill to anyone but in this case I would do the same to the dog owners as they did to the dogs.
