Opera Singer Reacts to Dimash Kudaibergen and Aida Garifullina (Ulisse) - Dimash Journey # 9

Ойын-сауық

Hey everyone! A lot of people have been requesting Ulisse as the next step and I’m glad for it! I think Aida Garifullina and Dimash really are a perfect match for blending and they both have such beautiful color in their voice. A couple of times they were reaching out for each other and the other completely ignored them (choreo, likely) but it just reminded me so much of a craigslist missed connection so much I couldn’t help but laugh! Thank you everyone for 10,000k!

The lyrics they just sang at 4:45 says "Priggioneri dell'insegimento del miraggio sempre siamo noi" (We are always prisoners of the pursuit of a mirage)... so their movements make sense, one tries to reach the other and can't, it's what happens with "mirages", they are not real so you never reach them. In 6:55 when you say "Finally!", the lyrics go "l'infinito amar" (the infinite love), and then continues "Portami con te " (take me with you), while their hands are still together. The piece has a thought provoking lyrics in the whole, it has some lines that seem to contradict others. Polaritá, ambiguitá (Polarity, ambiguity) cime d'argento nel blu (silver crests in the blue) Itaca mia, sono in balia (My Ithaca, I'm at the mercy) dei tuoi vizi e virtú (of your vices and virtues) Per Ulisse, l'Odissea, (For Ulysses, the Odyssey) vita, morte e idea, (is life, death and mind) viaggio che trafigge l'anima, (a journey that pierces the soul) l'infinito amar /or mar (The infinite love -or sea-) (not sure wich word, their pronunciation isn't clear) Portami con te (Take me with you) nella mente e nel cuor (in your mind and your heart) Priggioneri dell'insegimento (We are always prisoners) del miraggio sempre siamo noi (of the pursuit of a mirage) Dio del mar (God of the sea) del grande mar (of the big sea) guida la nave per me (lead this ship for me) nel navegar, nel espetar (in the course of sailing and waiting) c'é la ricerca di se (there is the journey of self searching) Per Ulisse, l'Odissea, vita, morte e idea, viaggio che trafigge l'anima, l'infinito mar Portami con te nella mente e nel cuor Priggioneri dell'nsegimento del miraggio sempre siamo noi Per Ulisse, l'Odissea, vita, morte e idea, viaggio che trafigge l'anima, l'infinito mar Portami con te nella mente e nel cuor Priggioneri dell'insegiment o (We are always prisoners) del miraggio sempre siamo noi (of the pursuit of a mirage) Sempre noi, sempre noi, sempre noi (We're always... we're always... we're always) Thank you for your reaction Angel, informative as usual.

@@joamis5656 Yes, in "Ti amo cosi" I know that in former performances with Dmitri Hvorostovsky the piece was "acted" by the singers as if it were two women "fighting" for a man; maybe in the performance with Dimash they made it more subtle because of Dimash's youth, although he's so versatile that he can look mature or a kid, depending the circumstances.

What I understand is that this is a video-reaction that Ms. Azzarra has made in which she expresses her opinion, I suppose, based on her knowledge and in which we in turn express our opinion about the video-reaction (sometimes we like your opinion or other times you may not). Anyway ... she expresses herself and we do the same. I do not see where the lack of respect for Ms. Azzarra is, or the rudeness on my part. I can only think that your comment regarding my opinion was due to not properly capturing what I expressed. A wildy different kind of duet could be Swan Goose with Dimash and Tengri. Traditional influences of a far different origin :). Tengri is an interesting singer, he also has a song Heaven from Singer. It might give you more of a crash course in some of his more specialty vocal stylings :). There is also Jasmine, sung as a duet with Wu Tong and also as a solo song. Might be worth a comparison to see a similar idea and how it's executed in wildly different settings and from duet to solo. Lots of ornamentation in both versions. Swan Goose: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aoB5urOcpM-WgZM.html Heaven: kzread.info/dash/bejne/emah2MVpncywXdo.html Jasmine Solo: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aG2Gtc2EpZqzf9Y.html Duet: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o3WIs7itisWwiqQ.html (Only version I could find where you can see the whole video without overlaid cut scenes, touch blurry but you can see all the staging and the audio is as I remember it, some other videos the uploaders seem to have futzed with the audio) I love Ulisse! Thank you so much for reviewing it :)! Hope all is well.

Then there's the two of them plus Lara Fabian singing "Ti Amo Cosi". I think there's a fancam of that without all of the skaters. There's also a backstage meeting of Dimash and Andrea Bocelli, where they break into "O Sole Mio". For something of a change sometime, you might want to see the amazing audition on Holland's got talent of Amira Willighagen. At 9 yrs old she sang "O Mio Babbino Caro", which she learned from Y.Tube. (There's an Eng.Subs version) She ended up winning the competition. (I'd give you the link, but I'm afraid of this comment going to spam if I did.)

Your reactions are always beautiful, professional and elegant. Former soloist with the Miami City Ballet here. Just wanted to say that none of the movements in any of Dimash's (and apparently in Aida's) performances are ever haphazard. Without being calculated, his movement and comportment on stage is always precisely conscious. By the way, it seems like, according to the (minimal) choreography in this performance, they were not meant to hold hands before the featured hand-lock half-way in the song. My observation is that Dimash's natural talent for movement and dance astoundingly shines through all the time: If he hadn't gone into music, his talent in dance would have been on par with and manifested itself in the same quality and brilliance as in his songs. He just happened to choose another path, but ballet would have suited him just as much. His physical facility and musicality now take form in embodying the songs he sings. Also, like I said above, none of his performances seem on any level by chance, and he demonstrates a beautiful artistry and professionalism: His movements are conscious and can be recreated in each performance without ever any loss or lack of being heartfelt, authentic and emotionally charged and present.

Somehow or other, I had not stumbled across this duet, so thank you, Angel, for bringing it to my attention. I'm of the opinion that Dimash sounds exactly as he chooses to sound. If he wants rich, warm tones in his baritone or tenor registers, he delivers them. But those aren't limits, they're choices. Dimash certainly gave us warm, rich tones in this song. Wonderful stuff. Aida complemented him nicely. The dynamic balance between the two was very good. My ears are happy after hearing this performance. That rascal Krutoy keeps churning out magnificent music, doesn't he? I don't know how he can keep up that pace.

This song is not new though. I think Ulisse was first sang by Sumi Jo, Aida Garifulina (yeah, the same singer) and late Dimitri Hvorostovsky. It's been a while though. Of course, the new version differs a lot from the original one, but I actually find it more enjoyable.

Thank you so much - you've really made my day!❤ For some reason I still cannot fathom, very fewKZreadrs have reacted to/analysed one of my favourite ever Dimash performances, and my number one favourite duet - but hey, they're the ones missing out! I did have to laugh out loud at the beginning, when you lamented the lack of focus on Dimash's face, because I had reacted in *exactly* the same way when I first saw this televised performance - which is why, despite the inferior audio, I still prefer the fancam versions that concentrate on Dimash throughout! As you so rightly pointed out, a Dimash performance is never simply about the vocals - he sings with his entire being, his whole body, telling us his stories from top to toe... and never was that more apparent, than in that long pause near to the end, when the choir came in? We didn't see it here as the camera had panned away, but whilst Aida stood still, casually adjusting the sleeve on her dress, Dimash was still performing, facially expressive and totally in character for every single second from beginning to end - the sign of a true artist imho! I wholeheartedly agree, that these two really do sound (and look!) amazing together... may I just take this opportunity to ask, that as a pro yourself, you would/could have mistaken Dimash's performance for that of a professional opera singer? And the reasons (please be honest!) behind your assessment, please?🙏 Much as I loved the performance, I have very little experience of the genre - however, Dimash's facility to adjust his vibrato and tone to match that of his singing partner, never fails to blow me away! When needed, he can provide the highest and/or lowest notes that may be out of his partners' range and/or confidence, and can contribute to the most blissful of harmonies - however, he can also be relied upon to never over- or out-sing his singing colleague, and instead makes them truly shine! Thanks again, for a great video - I'd love to hear your opinion on any and all of Dimash's wide range of under-reacted-to duets, ranging from collaborations with both east and western operatic stars, via pop singers and rappers, even a vocaloid! Sending you much love, hugs, and my very best wishes, from the UK❤🤗😍

I have been watching other reactions to this performance (vocal coaches included) and by far you are the first vocal coach who immediately noticed at the final part not only the last note, that without a question it was Dimash voice . Also I totally agree this performance was sublime and we can see the incredible ability of Dimash switching from his deep and low voice to a higher soprano even higher than Aida, maybe an octave above and of course we know he can reach an amazing d8 whistle, so this performance was incredible , I really enjoy the low voice on Dimash and of course his signiture for the finale.

You are absolutely right this is an outstanding performance Angel. Your reaction is the best of all as you have the professional ear. Whilst I realise that these “reactions” are mainly for Dimash fans, it’s refreshing to hear you fully acknowledge Aida’s talent and beautiful voice. Dimash is great but put it this way, he’s the flash Ferrari but what most people don’t appreciate is she’s the Rolls Royce/ Bentley, a truly professional perfectionist. If you watch one of the fan cam recordings, you can catch her at the very beginning very subtlely and gently pulling her hand away from his to “remind” him to put his left ear piece back on, which he had yanked out at the end of his earlier performance! And if you follow the lyrics, she was the one in total command of the body language. Dimash is commanding but he is still young and I guess this is where the difference lies between a polished opera singer and a crossover. But both are undoubtedly exceptional talents and what a treat for us to get to enjoy their Art. And to prove my point about Aida’s level, have you heard her duet with Bocelli “Ave Maria Pietas”? Or the magical rendition of Barcarolle with Joyce DiDonato in Paris?? They are indescribably exquisite. The voice, the harmony, the phrasing, the melding, ... so, basically, she enhances anyone she sings with! You should also hear her solo of “White Bird” at this same concert for Igor’s 65th: listen to the final high note and how it’s held to perfection. ☺️

Yet another outstanding analysis, I was surprised to hear that you were so familiar with Aida. While we all know that Dimash is a once in a generation talent, there is another. Her name is Alma Deutscher, she is a 15 year old classical pianist/violinist/composer. She has already been compared to Mozart. She's from London but now lives in Vienna. She sarted playing the piano at 2 years old, the violin at 3, started improvising melodies at 4, composed a piano sonata at 6. Composed her first Opera "Sweeper of dreams" at 7, by 11 she had written a violin concerto & a full length Opera "Cinderella" in which she rewrote the story the music and full orchestra score. Since then she like Dimash has performed sold out concerts all over the world, including 2 concerts in San Diego that were sold out in 35 mins. Like Dimash this young lady has a wonderful personality, an incredible talent, and shows what hard work can achieve. There are loads of utube clips of her on her website from a very young age. I would love you to react to "Siren Sounds Waltz" from her Carnegie Hall concert, New York. Try to remember, this was composed by a 14 year old. 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍

Hello. A pleasure to greet. I've heard a lot of reactions to this performance, and I really agree with you. Their voices sound great, but the connection between them is a bit strained. It's a shame, because they are both spectacular and I think the public would have loved to see them more connected and interacting. There is a more complete video of this presentation where Dimash leaves the stage and Aida is left alone. In that huge dress that she has, she was hoping that he would help her off the stage. After all, everything is wonderful and flawless. Thanks for your work Angel ;-D

Thank you for the reaction! That crunching inward that you mentioned that you don't recommend he does in Adagio (SINGER version) BUT I believe it was more of a stylistic choice due to the drama he wanted to bring out since it was a competition. But that was now 3 years ago...I think he has gotten better technically...thanks again!

I know the production is always careful with details of the environment around them and not focusing on the singers. What a good companion Dimash is.
