As a mom of 1 kid, I personally don't enjoy watching how other moms struggle. I find it more helpful to watch videos where moms with more on their plate do ALL THE THINGS cause it makes me feel like I can do it as well. Eases my stress and helps me to not overthink things.

I was thinking the same way! It’s inspirational! She talks about having a mother who also kept the house to a high standard, so as someone who was raised in a much different house hold its extremely inspiring and educational to see Sarah share her life. I am constantly learning from creators like this! I grew up in a rough environment so I had a lot to learn to change that going forward!

Yes same! If you only see other moms struggling, then you start thinking that's normal, but it doesn't have to be that way (some days but not all!). I'm not making sourdough bread (I have an 8 week old baby) but it's still really nice to see that things can become calmer.

I think also people say it’s unrealistic because they might want the type of lifestyle that Sarah has and they become jealous so they look towards her negatively. Of course you can’t do it ALL every single day, but that doesn’t mean you have to make someone else feel bad because they do, and I’m sure even Sarah has days where she feels like she hasn’t done enough just like she stated in her video. People just need to understand whether you laid in bed all day today or you cleaned the entire house spotless, you did enough because you did what your body and mind were telling you to do. No matter what, you are enough and you have done enough! No need to think negatively and put someone else down.

unrealistic part for many is to do so many with kids on hands. People forget - her husband stays home. As mom of 3 kids with my husband gone 80% of the time for work, I can see difference when both parents at home. It is half of work and everything. Majority of families has similar situations to mine - husbands are working outside of the home a lot of time.

If you’re watching this video and feel that Sarah’s lifestyle is unrealistic and unattainable for you, keep this in mind. There is a lot that Sarah has that makes being an intense homemaker realistic and attainable for her: 1. Sarah said her family’s income is from her KZread work so I’m guessing her husband is home with her. They’re able to tag team together all day. That may not be the case for you. 2. Again, her income comes from being a homemaker. For Sarah, decluttering her closet and making money are one and the same. That may not be the case for you. 3. She says the home she grew up in is similar to the home she keeps. This tells me these organization and cleaning habits of hers were instilled in her from her youth. This may not be the case for you. 4. Many women struggle with mental illnesses that make even taking care of themselves a challenge, let alone taking care of a home and family. That may be you. The rest of us are doing the best we can with what we’ve got and that is amazing!! Celebrate yourself and what you’re able to do. You’re doing a great job!!

Yes, you made some good points. For me her lifestyle is not attainable because costs of living in my country are so high that even without overcomsuption both wife and husband must work full time to afford basic needs and I'm not coming from rich background. Then, homeschooling is allowed but only in close cooperation with public schools and you must follow core curriculum prepared by the government, so even in such scenario you have limited control over the education of your children. Also, in my culture husband helps at home if he throws away trash once a week and women have to do like everything. 😰 I'm fighting with this in case of my husband. He is a good person and I love him dearly. He is trying his best but it is really hard when he has had literally no single example of a man helping at home in his whole life and almost everyone keeps telling him he does more than enough because he does simple things like doing grocery shopping from time to time and he was tought that helping at home is emasculating. 🤣 This is why it tiny bit annoys me that Sarah refuses to acknowledge simple things like her money and the help she receives and instead suggests she is super intense homemaker and you are not if your life is different or you may be spiritually weak or not motivated enough and to me she comes off a little bit tone-deaf. I also have never seen hate comments on this. Only comments asking for honesty which for me, there is not much in this video. It is only my suspicion that she just prefers not to say things which are against the brand of this channel which is fine. Or maybe she is honest and really sees it that way and I'm biased due to my experience. 🙂 Still, I love her and her content.

I feel like you explained it better than she even did haha I see the social media side of it though, by creating something nearly perfect you are setting fire to the flame. If you have that sort of position and influence I can see why some moms dont feel as adequate. Its always good to separate yourself from what you see online and connect with moms/people in your area that give you a more realistic perspective on the overall struggles many in the community have. I think like you said her situation is special and specific that makes it easier for her to keep her home clean and get tasks done.

@@kickinitwithjess honestly, it didn’t seem to me like she was trying to acknowledge these things that make it possible for her to be so good at homemaking. It seemed like she just kept saying, “this is just who I am!” Like she just IS a gifted homemaker and other women are not. Which is why I wanted to comment and acknowledge these things! But yes, as viewers, we shouldn’t expect our lives to look like hers at all.

So don't beat yourself up if doing household chores takes several, unrewarded hours on top of your job outside the house and therefore doesn't happen as often/"intensely".

But saying Sarah can just film herself do errands and house shores and make money from it, takes away from all the hard work of planning, editing, marketing, financial work and all the other stuff that goes into creating a successful KZread account. I think it’s also important to remember that this is your job. To the people who are envious or upset, this is her full time job. She is a homemaker/KZreadr - making content for her channel as a direct reflection of her life. Other vloggers who work as nurses/businesswomen/etc. devote their time elsewhere and may have seemingly “unrealistic” standards in other areas of their life. It’s of no use to compare yourself to others. For as much as Sarah devotes time to making her house perfect, I devote myself to other things and make them perfect - and that’s okay.

Absolutely! You see these youtubers doing fitness tutorials, or personal trainers who spend ALL DAY working out and making those videos, and they have a perfect toned body, muscles etc. And we might look at that and think, how can I ever get there?! The point is, most of us have other jobs. We don't have 12 hours to devote to cleaning the house, or working out, because we have different careers. Sarah chose this, she has been blessed in it, and it's what she _does!_ That's [partly] why her house is so immaculate, she has time to organise things, & the family life appears to run so smoothly. If we gave up our jobs and were paid to stay home, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be so unattainable to keep a pristine house after all!!!

I’m also an intense home maker. My house is always “ready for guests”, I make my own bread, jams, my kids do their own laundry, I homeschool, and I wake up early to work out 4 days a week. And it’s not a pat myself on the back situation for me either. It’s just how I like to live my life. I hope these comments help you, knowing there are other people who live similarly to you and your family. It’s not unrealistic for people who make it a priority. Edit: I also love how you put in how God weaves us into our personalities. That’s so important for people to realize as well.

There was a woman who started a thread and clearly suffering from PPD / stress and or anxiety with her bub and knowing she couldn’t keep up with the house admin and take time to workout etc. She was struggling and reaching out. She wanted tips on how to help lose the baby weight and was very down on herself. There was a HORRIBLY SMUG poster who reminds me a lot like Sarah who basically said “well I get up at 5 am and do my workout, shower, get myself styled & groomed etc etc. Maybe you shouldn’t be so lazy and just get off your butt.” It was disgusting. I'm 44 a divorced (when my kids were under 4) SAHM of 3 who lives 15min outside Boston. My oldest who is Autistic is now 15. My son 13yr is borderline. I've moved to many times to count (married in NC heart of the Bible belt) I've experienced the loss of my dad and my mom is now showing her age. My house is always pristine, laundry always done in-between bringing my 3 kids from and to, different places. Doctors , school, therapists. I have TV's but no cable because I don't have time to sit. I never leave the house or go to bed with a dish in the sink or throw pillow out of place. I don't leave my house unless my hair is done, makeup on and my kids clean and nicely dressed. I've been living on the edge of burnout for years hiding it with a smile on my face while crying on the inside. My point? I don't see you as unrealistic, I don't see you as inspiring (and I do not say this to put you down in anyway) I see you as a very young mother, who lives in a sheltered Bible community. A mother in her 20's that has not experienced the harsh reality of the outside world. Your kids are young enough that you still have control over their day. I became friends with mothers like you in NC and their "sheltered" life was one that I can honestly say, was something I would've loved to experience but knew I never could. I may be wrong but if I had to guess the negative comments come from people that do not know anything more than what one video portrays. I also think that if they knew, they would have never commented. Why? Because if I didn't know, I to would think the same but instead I have met mothers in my 20's like you and never did I think their life was unrealistic, in fact the complete opposite. I understand the point of this video but I can also see where the negatively comes from. Social media brings people from everywhere. Mothers, fathers from all walks of life, most having experienced a much harsher reality, people that have scars from their past ect.. I'm not belittling your life, your struggles, your work. But your age and lack of recognition or insight into the world and the way others live, is very clear in this video.

Yes. Modern people are not too fond at the idea that there are such things as ideals. We like living knowing and seeking to only serve our Lower Will/s. It reminds of some aspects of the “body positivity” movement where people get mad when someone they looked up to decides to lose weight. It’s an uncomfortable reminder of an ideal (need to exercise and be healthy) that can be forgotten in certain circles once we’re accustomed to the comfortability of doing very little accompanied with a delusion of greatness. Minimalism or mindful living is truly life changing and allows you to focus on making time for what matters most to you. Rather than focusing on how your lifestyle is "unrealistic," they should focus on how they can change their own mindset so they don't criticize others for how they live.

I think it’s hard because it’s not often brought up that you have marital support other mothers often don’t have. My husband is gone 80% of the time and I still have to work 3 hours a day outside of the home to supplement our income WHILE living frugally because my oldest is neurodivergent and my oldest 2 children are from a prior unhealthy marriage. I never felt challenged by your videos, moreso saddened - you portray this amazing life I wish I could lead, and I can’t. My ex wouldn’t consent to homeschooling, I work outside of the home during nap time, and while I also “don’t binge Netflix” it’s because my day is totally full of solo parenting 3 kids under 4, breastfeeding, cleaning, cooking, prepping and working. My husband helps however he can WHEN he’s at home. It just feels like a genuine lack of transparency that would give your life/videos/vlogs some personally necessary context. You have 2 able bodied adults in your home at all times. That’s an anomaly that should and could be addressed in some awesome ways.

My mother always taught me that when I see a woman who is beautiful, successful, and happy and has her stuff together in all areas that are important to her (which may or may not be the same areas that are important to me), that I should see it as excellent news, as an encouraging sign that it is possible to have "it all" (of course we always wish for something else and more, having dreams is wonderful, but you see what I mean). You know the saying “Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less”? Anyone can see that you do a great job of keeping up your home. This video could have been about 10 minutes long saying that you are trying to steward the gifts the Lord has given you and that any good you do is purely out of His grace. Instead, you spent 30 minutes talking about how amazing you are. As someone who has enjoyed your videos for years, this video really missed the mark as far as humility goes. I felt similarly after only 6 minutes in. Granted, I didn't watch the whole thing so I can't comment intelligently or fairly on everything she's said, but I've watched similar videos of hers - after following her pretty closely and gratefully for years - and had to stop after a few minutes because it's too painful for me - partly because of where I'm at in life and how different it is from her life, which so many of us are saying here... And partly because of what I see her communicating here - basically just talking about herself and defending her lifestyle. Maybe I'm wrong and this video is different. Either way, her content is less encouraging and inspiring than it used to be for me, and sparks more discontent than thankfulness and motivation to be a good mom/wife/homemaker in the place the Lord has put me now. But that's on me! I don't have to watch 😉

The thought process flowed and turned into lots of good thoughts and conversation so I appreciated the entirety of it. *Also gotta keep in mind it’s mostly unedited.

I grew up in a home like this. My mother was obsessed with keeping the house immaculate, and going above and beyond what was expected of a mother of 5. It was hell as a child. Living in such a controlled and sterilized environment without any freedom to "make a mess", or to not have a normal relationship with your mother since she is too busy caring about her home being perfect, is a very toxic environment for any child to grow up in. My mother didn't mother, she kept house. And this is all I'm hearing from this video. Now granted, my mother was a SAHM with a husband that worked out of the house and didn't get any outside help. Compared to Sarah Therese who is essentially a co-homemaker with her husband, and i'm sure because of this their workload is much more manageable and less stressful. But that is the only way she would find time to "mother" her children. Not one person can run a business, homeschool, clean, cook, and look after the needs of 4 young kids. And I wish she would give Keiran the credit he deserves. So anyone that views this as "goals" and says she is such and inspiration, this is only goals if you and your husband are both staying at home running a online social media business that literally revolves around you trying to sell your lifestyle. Then yes, they're totally goals!

Maybe her rigid lifestyle and her high need for control are more functional emotion regulation strategies, I mean more functional than substance abuse, but to me it feels very much effort to regulate yourself like that all the time. My goal is to accept and "surf" my emotions and try to stay calm when my house is a mess sometimes or I am not ably to get rid of the last babyfat. I try to persue my goals, but try not to obsess as much. Her lifestyle is interesting to me, but definitely not an inspiration or role model.

And that’s is not just like everyone says do your bed and leave. It is about small details and doing it for your Family. It is the best thing to have mums like you out there. You really do your job perfectly 👏🏽❤️

Okay so I love Sarah’s channel. Her kids are amazing and I get so much inspiration. But this video makes me cringe. It’s just 30 minutes of her praising herself which could have been 10 minutes of saying “hey guys I love not taking a break and being super hyper focus on cleaning and the Bible” which is totally fine but seems weird to make a video about it. If your work is public people are going to compare and complain, it’s just how social media is. But saying hey guys I know I’m perfect and I’m sorry you are not because Jesus made me this way is so odd to me. But this is just my opinion. I enjoy the channel as a whole this video is just…weird.

@@AnnaEmilka I don’t know if you have been following her for a while but if so, do you remember her breaking down stating she, “couldn’t do this anymore,” referring to KZread and mom life? That’s why her husband left his job to assist her with KZread and the kids. She tries to pretend she doesn’t get overwhelmed but she does. And nothing is wrong with that but she just can’t seem to allow herself to be human. She pushes herself way too hard and tries to appear to be this perfect person online when in reality, she struggles inside just like most of us. Mom life and work life, especially combined, is not easy. Sarah just can’t be honest with herself or anyone else about it because she doesn’t want to appear “weak” or like she doesn’t have it all figured out or have her “life together.”

I love getting to see a part of your life because I grew up in a mess (in more ways than one) and I love seeing that it is possible to be different. I love how clean your house is and that you don't just throw up your hands and say, "It won't be clean until the kids are gone." I love seeing your kids playing together (and I know you've said that you don't show us their struggles, but to see them so sweet together is so precious) And I love that you have never claimed that it's easy. You show us your unmade bed, you tell us you're exhausted like any mom with a new baby is. You encourage me to try to have the home and family I've always craved because it clearly is possible. Thank you. I'm praying for you, sister.

And I watch videos to see what a normal home looks like... but it is possible to escape the cycle, not to follow in your parents' footsteps. Just work through your experiances, don't hide or deny them. I have 2 little kids and my house is a little bit messy, but put together. But the best thing is that everyone in this house feels safe and loved - and that's up to you to make your house that way!

I don’t think people actually think you’re fake. We do believe you do all of this, regardless of filming. The thing is, in order to truly inspire and challenge people, they need to feel like you are one of them. That you are not a superhero or an alien from other planet. They need to see that you too are not perfect, you wake up with messy hair, your kids don’t always behave, sometimes you stress about things, sometimes you make a bad decision you regret, sometimes your cooking exeriment goes wrong... We don’t see those parts of your life very often and that makes it look unreal. What I’m trying to say is, if you want to make a change and be inspiring, you need to also be relatable. We do love your content and I personally find it very inspiring, but oftentimes I wish you could make your videos less filtered, which would make me go "ahah, she is a person like me, maybe I could do it too".

Sarah - I really do admire your content. I enjoy learning new recipes from you, and am inspired by your minimalist home. This comment comes from a place of truly being a fan of yours. This video lacks acknowledgment of privilege of many kinds. I don’t want to make assumptions about you because I don’t think that’s fair. So I’ll just say this: women of color, single mothers without help, and those who are below the poverty line don’t have the same advantages that others may take for granted. For some, daily life presents immense challenges and a clean home is the last thing on their minds. For others, they are a minimalist mom out of complete necessity and not being able to afford anything outside of what’s needed. Have you ever sat in line at a grocery store wondering if your card will bounce? What about experiencing prejudice and racism while applying for a job? It’s terrifying. I am a white, privileged woman in a corporate career and I acknowledge this because it’s important. May I suggest if you haven’t already reading Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man to broaden your perspective. Others may have suggestions too. I hope you’ll take them.

Viewers see your life as "unobtainable" and "unrealistic" because you aren't upfront about the fact that there are 2 of you. Kieran is a homemaker alongside you: this is a huge privilege that most families don't have. Your content would be more honest if you showed us just how much work Kieran does (childcare, homemaking, editing etc) instead of pretending that you do it all yourself.

She's not pretending anything though I agree it would be awesome to know more about Kieran's role too. Having said that, it's also his right to not share as much if he doesn't want to. Also, yes, most families don't have that privilege but that's the point she's also making is that she's not saying this is everyone's life at all and it's not meant to be relatable or something we aspire to be necessarily. It's just her, sharing, and us, taking from it what we do. Maybe getting entertainment from it, maybe being inspired by something, or something else.

Kieren evidently looks like the guy who's more on the shy and awkward side and who isn't very comfortable being in front of a camera. He has the right to choose to be shown or not. They have divided the tasks between them by having Sarah do most of the presentation while he takes care of the behind the scenes stuff like editing and whatnot. And as the above comment mentioned, even when he's not being shown, Sarah frequently mentions him and updates us with what he's doing atm. I really do not understand the logic behind the hate, if there's any logic to begin with

That being said I’ve found so many parts of your life inspiring, especially how you’ve dedicated yourself to being the best mom you can for your kids. My unsolicited advice would be to listen to negative feedback with as much as an open heart as possible. You can remain strong in who you are while listening and learning from others. At the beginning of this video you say your lifestyle is realistic and then by the end you admit that you DO need help and you are using your income to pay for assistance. It’s okay to need help. You have many privileges and it’s important to recognize them. It is clear you have a compassionate heart. Put down your defenses and listen to the challengers.

“Comparison is the thief of joy.” Whenever we view social media, in all it’s forms, we must remember not to compare ourselves and our lives to what we see online. For one, social media is a glimpse of people’s lives, and we never truly know how accurately it portrays anything. And for another, our lives are all unique. There are too many variables to be considered, and just one different variable can have a big effect on someone’s life. Rather, we should take what we see as reminders, of how we do and do not want* to live our own lives. Use what we see as inspiration or cautionary tales. Then apply that to make our own lives the best it can be for ourselves and those we love. Keep being you, Sarah, living your life for God, for His glory, in the best interests of your beautiful family. ❤️🙏🏻 *Edited to correct a typo (what -> want)

You are arguing the point no one was making. People aren't angry at you because your life is unrealistic - what they mean is the images of your family and home that you project can make some people feel down about themselves because it contributes to often unrealistic expectations for women and moms everywhere. I'm not saying you should stop your content - honestly, I love it, and it inspires me and I hope when I have children, this is the lifestyle I will have - but you cannot deny that it is not always possible for everyone and there already exists this overwhelming image of the perfect mom with the spotless house and homemade meals. Obviously, how we react to this content is on us, and you shouldn't be responsible for everybody's feelings especially since you are privileged enough to be an intense homemaker, but I feel like you just don't really understand where people are coming from. I feel like all you had to say is that what we see is at most 20 minutes from your whole week - there's a lot of stuff that goes behind the scenes, and sometimes your house is a bit messy and you have to eat cereal for dinner, and that's okay, sometimes it happens, that's life. You didn't need to get all defensive about how you want to live your life beautifully - we get it and it's admirable and keep it up.

That’s like saying it’s unrealistic to be extremely fit to someone who works out every single day. Or it’s like saying it’s unrealistic to have so much knowledge to a surgeon. It’s not unrealistic, but it’s also not for everyone. If she is sharing her real life and others cannot achieve that, it’s because we all have different life styles, priorities and circumstances, but it certainly is not portraying anything unrealistic. There is a difference between someone staging something and pretending that is what they do and someone showing what they actually do. This is how she has set up her true life, you can be inspired (like you said) or know it’s not for you and watch something else

Completely agree with you that it is contributing to unrealistic expectations for women everywhere. It's not unrealistic for her because guess what -- this is literally her job. She makes money from filming cleaning, decluttering, cooking, exercising, shopping, and even just talking like this video. It's an extremely uncommon setup she has. As viewers, we should constantly remind ourselves that for working women (and men), this IS unrealistic. There are only 24 hours in a day and when we have 8 to work and 8 to sleep, there's only 8 leftover for ... Literally everything else in life. The math doesn't work out. The main thing that bugs me about Sarah's videos is her narration about why she's doing what she's doing (e.g. spending time to make fresh bread, scavenging 5 different thrift stores for a single item) and how it's so much better, without acknowledging that it's something most people can't make time for. Sometimes she'll say something like "no judgement if you don't do this, but I just think this is better for my family, my well-being, and the planet" as if it's a totally achievable thing for anyone watching and the only reason anyone would not make the same decision is by (uninformed) choice. She comes across as very uppity. She doesn't realize the fish bowl she's living in.

@@kellymhanson Your fish bowl comment is spot on, in my opinion. This is her life, absolutely. I don’t doubt she’s being genuine about what she shares and what their life is like. But it is a fish bowl. Most families’ lives are not like this and it is unreasonable to compare even. Being an influencer and making your income this way, you have to be in it 100% and that creates sort of a bubble for you and your family. Influencers & family vloggers live in this bubble and therefore often don’t really understand where their viewers are coming from. I believe Sarah is genuine, but her life in her bubble is unrelatable for many viewers, and our perspectives are often unrelatable for her, which is what we’re seeing in the case of this video.

Honestly girl, it just seems to me that those people accusing you of causing “mental distress” from how clean and organized your home is just more people refusing to take responsibility for their own mental health/actions/life. You keep doing you, and other people need to just go deal with their own problems instead of trying to blame you. ❤️ I appreciate you!

Ever since I started watching your videos and became a subscriber, you have motivated me more than anything. I never felt less than or inadequate. When I watch your declutter videos for example, I’m not the type of person that declutters their closet constantly but I have been motivated to go through my stuff and donate it a little bit more than normal. It’s the little things that you share in your videos that have made an impact on my life. ❤️

I understand the points that you make and I think that it is optional to watch you and your family or not. But I also feel that privilege should always be acknowledged and that it is not always obvious to the other side.

THIS! The privilege is not acknowledged. It’s just God gave me this, my life is like this because I believe in God. If only that was the reality of it or the whole story. She’s sitting here saying she wants to inspire others but her perspective is so small. If anyone needs to learn or be inspired it’s her. She sounds ignorant half the time and the other half she just comes off insufferable. There are other KZreadrs with similar beliefs and lifestyles and I don’t find them insufferable. There’s just something about her that doesn’t sit right. I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but it’s there. I know some of it has to do with how young she is. She is still in her early 20’s and thinks she knows it all and has it all figured out. And I’m NOT hating. These are my observations. I don’t feel threatened by her, I don’t get upset by what she does or what she has. I just like watching different lifestyles. But I wouldn’t say I come on her to feel inspired.

I can't even begin to fathom how people blame the way THEY feel about themselves, on you. Different people have different priorities. If they feel some type of way for the way you live, then they should just use that as motivation to make small changes little by little. Doesn't mean they have to be EXACTLY like you, but simply just use it as motivation.

I’m forty, homeschooling mom of three and three dogs. I spent years apologizing for finding homemaking a joy and keeping a pristine home easy. I’m not apologizing anymore. I love my home and family and caring for them. You rock! P.S. no sitting around with Netflix here either.

I'm struggling to get my life (and house) in order and you're a huge inspiration for me. You are such a beautiful, gentle, inspiring soul and you shouldn't apologize for or justify the way you live your life (or stress over the comments). Luv all of your videos! Just keep going... You're awesome!

And please everyone don’t forget, that she seems to have her husband at home and he is obviously at least helping with the children and work. Not everyone has that. I love her clean house and everything. But please don’t compare to her. She is just in a very different situation than most people are.

So true! But I also remember her videos before Kieran was able to stay home, her priorities and habits were much the same. I really think her clean home and organized life is from her personality and years of prioritizing and making certain habits.

My mom's house was this pristine. So was my best friend's mom's house. Oh and they sure as hell didn't get paid to do any of it. It wasn't until my older brother moved back in with his kids and wife that my mom's house started getting "messy." But my mom's version of messy was other people's version of tidy. I'm not a mom. The reason I watch your videos is because it's nostalgic. It reminds me of a time where the house was always clean and organized. Things seemed simple, but in reality it took a ton of work to get there. I want to get there. And by "get there" I don't mean having a pristine home. I don't know if I'll ever get to that just because current situation, but I hope one day I will have just as much pride and peace as I see Sarah have in her home. Thank you for the inspiration
