Places like Wendy's rolling out AI drive thru service sounds cool AF to me. Why not have AI do the entry level jobs, maybe then they can pay management better in the long run and the quality of available jobs will actually be better. I think like any tool it depends how we use it. We need to move away from AI learning art and let people create art with all the extra time they have from AI doing labor!

I disagree, specifically for food service. As a customer dealing with a robot won't make my experience better, the companies won't charge me less and there's less jobs overall. The upside may come later, but from the perspective of the consumer it's all downside

@@tincanstantheman I hear you. I think the answer to those problems is always going to be better pay. These corporations need to pay a living wage, however many humans they employ. Until we hold companies accountable for slave wages it doesn't matter what other changes are made. AI will make corporations money, in a perfect world they would pay workers better because of it but we live in a dystopian greed fueled society so that isn't happening without a fight.

Honestly, my takeaway is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel with all of this. I think it's only a matter of time before AI is incredibly beneficial to our society, whether it takes our jobs or not. Speaking of your comment with replacing hotel receptionists, it's such a dream come true for us introverts 🤣But seriously, it is gonna be way more efficient and might help steer people away from the easy jobs and maybe join trades that are always beneficial to all of us, like blue collar work, or maybe make them pursue their dreams! Who knows, maybe that's just what we need today!

Enjoyed your video. Yeah, it’s quite scary on one hand but also extremely fascinating how quickly this technology is developing and the capabilities that we could see in the very near future. I can’t help but feeling like this is the start of an evolutionary jump for humanity whether it be in a positive or negative direction is yet to be determined. I do think however this plays out, we’ll look back on videos such as this and be like “wow, this is when it all began” the same way let’s say the original iPhone announcement is looked back on today.

Hey thanks so much for such a insightful comment, really appreciate it! and completely agree, no matter which direction this all heads in, its a pretty pivotal moment in human history, much like the personal computer, into the internet, into the iphone. fingers crossed it has a positive impact on humanity!

Not just entry level jobs are at risk. There is no reason having an AI financial advisor to be just around the corner who reads your portfolio and optimizes for your goals etc.

Great example! a lot of knowledge immediately at its disposable for that role, a human would need years, if not decades to fully grasp!

I think you are wrong: It will first replace skilled jobs (people with college degrees and above) like, accounting, design, law, programmers, plus middle management. See the job losses already happening for copy writers, journalists, grafik designers, e.g.

  • @YoukayTV

Thanks for your comment mate! I agree with what your saying, but the difference a lot of those skilled jobs you mention have relationships built around them, like your examples, tax accounting, graphic and webdesign, copywriters... a lot of them fall into small biz/freelance, like myself, who luckily have built strong relationships that AI wont immediately replace (but eventually will!) no one, not even the employers care about unskilled workers because its usually a stepping stone job, with massive turnaround, and the easiest / cheapest entry into market imo.

I just found this video and listened to it a couple of times over the last 30 minutes (it's only 8:30 AM here now.... anyway; fascinating subject matter but so complex... and all the comments are also fascinating, I'm looking forward (and definitely planning) to get(ting) back to this later (other more urgent things to do right now) for now: I'm old but not old enough to have witnessed the industrial revolution but what a great time to be alive to witness the technological revolution. Anyway, what I wanted to say was that a lot of what you're saying seems IMHO to echo what people must have said (and worried about) back when steam engines were becoming a big thing (Oh no! Jobs!!!)

theres a bit more nuance to AI over other industrial and revolutioary advancements. I think the BIG part of this current storyline is where we currently are as a society. (hypercapitilism) AI is being developed by 4 of the biggest mega corps the planet has ever seen, with 1 singular goal, these megacorps only care about one thing, profits. AI isn't being developed for the good of the people, to help people, to assist humans, to solve hunger or cure disease. AI is being developed by 4 big tech companies to make even more trillions for their shareholders. AI is being specifically developed to lower corporations biggest cost, labor. why pay a human $16 an hour to answer a phone, respond to an email, design a graphic, edit a video when you can get the same, actually better service from AI for about $1/hour computing power. Steam engines, combustion engines, lightbulbs, personal computers, all inventions that improved society, solved a problem, made us stronger, smarter, more efficient. AI? literally designed at its core to replace us, by people who are very, very money and profit motivated.

What are you talking about saying that everyday people are going to suffer because of this technology? Technology is an amplification of our abilities and as such boosts living standards and grows the economy. Give me one example of when new technology has caused unemployment in the past. The invention of the weavers loom, the auto-mobile? Look at the statistics.

  • @YoukayTV

mate, you are so far off the mark on this one, I'm debating making another video about it: on what planet do you think that all these "profit first" mega corps who are at the forefront of this AI push are doing any of this for "the sake of humanity!" the corporations who are developing this stuff are the same corporations that treat their own employees so poorly, who only care about one thing. profits. not making our lives better, or easier in any way shape or form, just profits. this isnt the 1900s industrial revolution my friend. we live in a hyper capitalistic society controlled by a handful of mega corporations that continue to transfer wealth from the poorest people to the wealthiest people. comparing a weavers loom, a purpose built tool to solve a specific problem, VS machine learning designed, specifically, to replace high labor costs first and formost, are not really the same thing.

@@YoukayTV Thank you for your reply but you sound like a Marxist. Of course large corporations go after profit but in order to create profit they have to look after their customers. If we did not have free market economics we would not even have smart phones now. No, I am convinced that the overall effects of this new AI technology will be beneficial to nearly everyone. We may get to a point where AI can do almost any job that a human can do in which case a form of universal basic income will become inevitable but that's the choice of the people, they can vote for in when it comes along.
