A teeny tiny break of 1.5 years. 😬

I got completely screwed by closed source CAD software not too long ago when they removed the ability to import other file types on the free version, meaning I couldn't modify STLs anymore, which was a huge part of what I did. I would've happily paid a decent price for that software as I really liked it, but it's about 150 bucks every damn year, completely ridiculous for a casual hobbyist like myself. I've switched to FreeCAD, it's really not the best, it's quite clunky to use, but it's pretty powerful when you get the hang of it and at least all my time learning it won't go to waste because they randomly decide to just ruin it one day. FreeCAD also works on Linux, didn't have much luck with DSM through wine and that was my main problem with switching away from Windows, so maybe it's for the best they screwed it up.

1 year later and he's still got it🗿

One another con of open source software is that UX issues are often dismissed for a variety of reasons, like the devs got used to them too much, lack of manpower to be allocated to it, and lack of experience with UX design.

Very good point. Especially UI/UX that assumes the end-user is a developer. Really problematic.

tbh UX is just user-choice so i don't blame them, but i think there should be a simple "base" UI that you can adjust freely and make modifications out of it just by adjusting a settings file controlling how the UI elements are placed.

VLC too. It supports basically any media format under the sun and can even deal with broken files effortlessly. Heck, you can even stream with the thing!

Godot has saved my broke self from trying to get unreal engine.

Fun fact, if you play games, most of them are closed-source so it makes them "Proprietary" software. So by playing your favorite AAA game, you are literally using a "Proprietary" software.

I use open source and proprietary software. But if I find an good open source alternative to something proprietary I would switch to it. I generally avoid paying for software, one example is VMware workstation pro. I was thinking of buying a license (this was before the boardcom acquired vmware), but then I decided not to. Now it's free for personal use, so I pretty much saved myself $200.

Yeah, good point. I mostly use a combination of open-source / proprietary. Funnily enough, I did the same thing with VMWare Workstation Pro.

If you are using daVinci Resolve, you don't need to use after effect! Because you can Fusion in Fusion tab, but you need to learn daVinci. For photo shop I don't have any solution.

8:58 After Effects is already implemented into DaVinci with Fusion :)

The enterprise codebases I've worked with are all the same. One of them was uploading data as binary, and downloading as ASCII. I was tasked with fixing the "corrupted zip" error. So I definitely get what you mean 😂

@@chadyways8750 In the codebase I worked with, there was a comment being happy about Java 1.3 being out. The entire codebase still ran on Java 1.7, and they absolutely didn't want a new version with a Spring backend and React frontend. They still wanted their Java applet to work.
