GAME ENGINES: A Dive-In
Ғылым және технология
Game engines have existed for some time now. What did they look like, what do they look like now?
Here is a new video! I hope you enjoy it!

I'm gonna be the 30-year-old boomer here and say that I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Source engine. Dealing with how the binary space partition element of it sucks, but mapping on it felt intuitive in a way no other engine I've tried has felt since.

A few things to remember about GODOT that really makes it stand out compared to other fully featured engines. 1. it's completely free, and you'll never need to pay the group that maintains it a cent for any game you make on it 2. you have complete, MIT licensed, source level access to the engine, meaning you can make any change you want to the engine itself and if you don't want to share your changes you don't have to 3. 's cool Would highly recommend looking in to it more, I know it's a bit weird to start building things with at first but once you understand how it works fundamentally it's really enjoyable to work with. Also comes with all the documentation you need built in to the engine itself.
What I like about godot is how free it is. Free because the devs get money from donations, so no reason for making the user pay and free because the engine is open source. It's somewhere inbetween commercial engines and own engines. It isn't an industry standard like unity or unreal, but also isn't as expensive as gamemaker (seriously, 100€ annually for an engine, that used to cost 50€ once? Godot is free and can do more)

The fact that Godot engine is about 30Mo, is bootstrapped (the graphical interface is implemented as a Godot engine video game), has special support for 2D (i don't want to use 3D to do 2D), and has a great scripting language are the main reasons i completely ditched unity and unreal The android export is easy too
woooo another zyapguy upload keep up the amazing content you have inspired me to learn many things

quick recap: - money - dont code physics - money - buying engines lifecycle - money - money
Bro when he said “if that’s not your cup of tea” I had a cup of tea in my hand lol
Ey, cool vid Zyap!
Good work man, your channel is great! May God bless you!
I get criticized a LOT for making my own engine for my game. Also, C devs are chad. And the way I fix the burn out thing is that the game and the engine are being made together. I have my game and engine code that I am writing at the same time

the good old reliable "but you are wasting time and effort" honestly i would also go down the same path, only if i had the time and the will to figure out what else is causing the segfault in my code today
Love the higher quality uploads :D
You didnt mention that Godot doesn't require you to sign any license, is maintained by a non profit, and is licensed under MIT itself, which is a huge pro over any other engine mentioned in the video.
Pretty sure Godot is actually free, as in you don't pay anything for it, ever, even if you make the next Minecraft of games (unless you decide, without any obligation to, donate to them).
My first engine was WarioWare D.I.Y.
nice one . I like it :)
very nice content!!
9:21 I already made a "game engine" before. It's a game engine that makes games in ASCII inside Console Application.
I am game developer and I can work with Unreal engine or Unity. But I have much more experience in unreal engine I am huge fan of your videos, You know type of every programmer. I think I am over commenter 😅

nice video but the audio feels off like your voice is normal and then the frying pan hit audio is very loud it jump scared me lol
In all fairness, that doom mod is made on a source port with a lot more functionality than base doom 2. That said, getting all the rendering effects and game logic to work how it does is shockingly impressive.
what microphone do you use?
Will you ever continue the Mirror Tutorial? Maybe on your second channel? Would be awesome
Be a Chad and use Open Game Frameworks like Love2D
Laughs in the cherno
As a developer that uses the doom engine I can tell you that the doom engine does not use Ray casting but binary space partitioning which is a better alternative
My man
Making a game in unity while watching this lmao

The video has a big misinformation. Godot is, in fact, free, so you can be served the tools you need without the need for MONEY (nor a cut of it once you actually earn some). Godot is simply awesome, has it's own language that's really intuitive too.

Hello
question on Discord/stackoverflow plsssssssssssss :Pensive:
Personally I'm an extreme unreal hater just because how they don't document anything. People who use it boast about how "it has such good graphics" (or that I know) yet neglect to see that the C++ portion is practically nonexistent and everything is done by blueprints. When trying to get documentation, the only thing I usually find on their wiki is "how to use blueprints" and very VERY generalized info about a specific implementation detail. If you're gonna make an opaque boundary, you should document it, else it's useless IMHO. But alas, it's for tripple A studios. Admittedly, as a person who dives deep into source engine, and makes some source mods, I can say the exact same thing about valve, they barely document anything past client, server, materialsystem, and some shaders (for source mods at least, never documented leaked code :))))))))))) ), and expects you to dive into the code. Which is fucking terrible. But mapping is something very fun, and personally, I find it easier to work with. When I worked with Unity, it was the only one I really got behind, despite not particularly liking the UI aspect about it (because I'm used to shit from the 1900's lol) but seemed simple and intuitive, and easy to work with (as a developer). Godot seems cool but I haven't touched it enough, seems cool though, I'm not too sure about the parent child system, I don't particularly fancy that. The scripting system seems cool, but I'd probably stick with C# or make C++/C modules.
I think the full control argument for custom engines is not very strong as you can have full control with widespread engines as well. UE and Godot are open source and you can get the Unity source I believe as well if you have enough money that is.
Clearly you haven't used Godot xD
;)
source engine is the best engine

heck yeah
Unreal only wants 1% of game revenue and only if you sell more than 1 million copies. Who really achieves that anyways?! And it's really not much they ask for.

Real developers only use libGDX 😎😎😎
lol. Why use game engines my games and minecraft were made in java lwjgl/glfw/opengl
