i think you just changed the industry. cant wait to see the full kit in production.. your website should have the same aesthetic as the 13:10 "choose your configuation" section. that looks so slick.

I think you have just made every major lighting manufacturer shat themselves, honestly what you have created is flawless, i didn't expect this long awaited update video to be so major i was expecting it to be similar to the version one but with a diffrent voltage, pixel mapping and a little more compact. But you have easily outdone yourself, congrats! I'm going to share this video with everyone I know who might show any signs of being remotely interested. The possibilities are endless!

AHHHH. Dude. As an electrical engineer and self proclaimed lighting designer myself, this is EXACTLY what I’ve wanted and looked to build myself. This is so so cool and am kind of mad that I finally got approved for budget to make V1 and now I definitely have to go back and ask for more to make this thing. So cool, and good luck with this!!

As an independent DJ, I absolutely love this!! Especially the part where you use Touch Designer, if a DJ can just use his music as an input and have the DMX react to it, that sounds ideal for any music!

Great idea. You're a kindred spirit. I'm exited for the spools and plan to order some to support you; but I'm also unbelievably excited about the software/controller as I've beaten a large flat spot onto my forehead over the last 15 years or so trying to find the right software to realize my ideas for my current DMX stage lighting rig.

ok! I came here from the version 1 video and already commented on that one that you should start up a manufacturing company, and so this was a real treat to see that you're already doing that!!!! And so far from what I can see this is going to be a HUGE hit!!! The simplicity of setup and sheer power of the effect blows away most ground systems I've seen. The design of the spool is genius to save on materials but still look amazing! And I've already mentioned in the other video but I'll say it again....Canadians rock!

Thanks a lot for all your posts. Wonderful to see how you upgraded the original analog lights. You inspired me to build my own version of mobil light strips. Since I couldn´t get cheap plastic tubes I used metal rails with mat plexi covers. It looks very slim and smooth. I might also build a pixel version of them at some stage! Keep it going and all the best!

  • @piotrrudnicki8064
    @piotrrudnicki80642 ай бұрын

Damn man! That's awesome! I was trying to build my own addressable tube lights, actually I built some prototypes with wooden bases last year fairly inspired by your old videos about diffusion and basically a version 1, but for my setup I couldn't afford the DMX as I was using WS2812 led strips for that, 60 pixels per meter (180 channels per 1 meter tube). So I came up with the ridiculous idea that I can do that using Arduino as I also want to connect that to Ableton Live. So I programmed this whole thing from scratch in Arduino but I also had to make my own plugin in MAX to have a connection via Live. I'm now finishing up rebuilding the lights using your v1 idea with this home depot made bases etc. But I see now it won't be that versatile as Petal. From this place I want to congratulate you man! You are an inspiration, you have to know that!

Great project. I'm going to look into trying to build your design. I just finished my own, But it's not as robust for touring applications. You should definitely build daisy chaining into V3, each dig OCTA output can control 600 pixels, and most, if not all, pixel control software allows you to split each Pixel string into multiple fixtures.

RGB LED lighting has always had one problem for me, resolution. Slow color fades are really noticeable with the standard 8 Bit resolution especially at low brightness. I would love to see a addressable 16 Bit RGB Controller for LED strips. Of cause you can't address individual LEDs just the whole strip.

T polish this you could make the spools more compact + weighted, the LED tubes compactible, and a much smaller connector, keeping the XLR type jacketing ofc. You could use this as a method to generate industry hype through modular designs as well. Your bases could then just be cheap esp32's that translate to your RGB protocol. Others could make different things for their specific purposes, retaining all the features you were making anyways. Perhaps in a few iterations translate this to wireless stations with wireless charging - the nrf series of boards can do low power stuff.

There certainly are infinite possibilities with all these parts! I think a truss clamp set up will work great! wLED supports UDP and art-net too, one of the coolest things about building something with wLED is that you can send udp packets at any time and they'll update the display. so you can throw together and hack stuff that incorporates all the wLED instances you have around, even in clocks and other specialized displays

As A lighting engineer in training, If I could get it to work with a traditional lighting desk this has limitless posibilities. I feel like this would be perfect for photography or some Eyecandy effects at an event

Totally, the lighting desk thing is something I'm not too sure on as I dont have too much experience with that kind of hardware, but this system should be easy to incorporate with any desks that can use artnet. Other than that, the rig can be built in an analogue configuration that only uses 24 DMX channels. The tubes will be limited to one colour at a time (as opposed to individual pixels within each tube) but I used an analogue system for years prior to this V2 rig and it worked amazingly

@@SuperValidDesigns The analogue should be fairly simple to get working, most desks support artnet. My main concern would be getting the individually adressable strips working, fixtures like LED Battons work fairly well which in simple terms have the desk see each LED as seperate fixtures under the main fixture, I might be able to get something like that working with the strips, but it is hard to tell without having the hardware on hand.

This looks insane! was doing some research, and was wondering, what power supply you are recommending for this and if the one that is mentioned on the DIG OCTA for the HC board is the one that you guys are using/including?

The psu that quinled recommends are great! I just purchased the highest watt 24v psu on Amazon that was under 50 dollars, which ended up being 360W which is more than enough for these tubes but 500 watt psus would be nice if you wanted to go with huge fixtures and they are pretty easy to find at the same physical size

This looks brilliant! I wanna buy the whole solution in one package. My setup is that I'm running automated lights from Logic, via MIDI to DMX. DMXIS was great but I had to find another solution (as they discontinued) and opted for DOREMiDi MTD-1024. I guess the Vintage model would be my pick to match this, although I'm intrigued by the pixel talk but a bit confused as to how I would implement that to my setup.

The pixels definitely add a huge amount of capabilities without affecting the physical form factor. I’m gonna try and get some more tutorial like videos going so I’d love to know exactly what your current setup is like and maybe I can try to come up with a solution that can implement easily with a rig like yours!

@@SuperValidDesigns I'm running Logic Pro for my backing tracks, so the question is how do I control the lights with a pixel solution? With my DOREMiDi MTD-1024 I get a USB to DMX connection whilst converting from Midi to DMX. I think many would be interested in instructional videos on how to solve what DMXIS did, but also taking it to a new level, which you seem to be doing.

@@kidamazed I'm just finishing up a tutorial video on how I programmed my light show using our touch designer template and a video file which i made specifically for the light show. In the demo, I run the entire thing off of touch designer but in your case, you'd be able to run your tracks on Logic and send midi signals to touch designer to trigger different scenes. I havent tried doing that myself but it should be pretty straight forward, but we'll be sure to figure out exactly how to do this with any daw and we'll release a video about it as soon as we do!

This is a great project. Actually I am trying to re-create the tube lights v1. and I am really interested in how v2 will go. Quick feedback: as mentioned the website will be updated, in current page the font colors mixing with background colors and everything is white on offering section when you access the page from desktop chrome.
