Genesis II / Planet Earth 2-Film Collection (1973 - 1974) #WarnerArchive #WarnerBros #GenesisIIPlanetEarth2FilmCollection
"My name is Dylan Hunt. My story begins the day on which I died." So begins this sci-fi saga from visionary creator Gene Roddenberry (Star Trek). Genesis II follows NASA scientist Dylan Hunt (Alex Cord), who's buried in his own suspended-animation machine at NASA's underground Carlsbad complex following an earthquake. Revived in the terrifying 22nd century by the pacifists of PAX, descendants of his fellow scientists, he learns of The Great Conflict, a third and final world war that destroyed everything he knew. As an agent of PAX, Dylan seeks to spread the message of science and peace throughout this savage and strange new world called Earth. In Genesis II, he encounters the Tyranians, a mutant, militaristic neighboring civilization. In Planet Earth, Dylan (now played by John Saxon) journeys to the Confederacy, where a despotic matriarchy enslaves all males.
Directed By Marc Daniels, John Llewellyn Moxey
Starring Ted Cassidy, Majel Barrett, John Saxon, Didi Conn, Janet Margolin, Alex Cord

Roddenberry's first Dylan Hunt. His second was in Andromeda. I watched this when it first aired and would have happily tuned in for ten seasons.

Indeed, there’s actually a third installment as well, “Strange New World.” It’s actually more of a spin-off from the first two films, set a few decades later, than a direct sequel to the previous two movies. John Saxon plays a different character, Captain Vico, an astronaut from the same PAX organization that Dylan Hunt had been previously. It’s also available from Warner Archives-although sadly not in the same set.

Glad to see they dusted Lurch off, from the Adams Family and revived his career. 😅

Somewhere out in our expansive multiverse, there’s a reality where a large segment of the population is obsessed with this tv series from the 1970s called Planet Earth. It’s a story about an underground colony of scientists, artists and academics trying to bring civilization back to a post apocalyptic Earth. It starred John Saxon as Dylan Hunt and Ted Cassidy as Isaiah. The tv show Planet Earth had a loyal cult like following during and after its initial run that inspired the creation of sequel movies and tv shows and there are still conventions going on dedicated to the tv show. Regular appearances by the cast and the tv shows producer, Gene Roddenberry are a treat. Especially when Roddenberry shows a short one hour film that was a pilot to a low budget science fiction tv show he tried to sell to the tv networks in the United States called Star Trek. The pilot episode was titled The Cage and starred Jeffrey Hunter as a starship captain who fights a planet full of alien psychics with huge white heads shaped like anuses. “The networks weren’t buying that concept at the time,”Roddenberry told the audience. “What killed this was a crewman who had pointed ears. It was just an idea that never panned out but it prepped me for the unprecedented success of Planet Earth. Now in this parallel universe, there’s a sixty year old man who should be out running errands who’s typing up a lengthly post on KZread with his iPad about how the pilot of Star Trek became a huge cultural phenomenon and … Oh wait!!!

Gene was always trying to get his male lead named Dylan Hunt. He was really attached to that name. I'm surprised that he went with Gene Jr. for his son, "Rod", and not Dylan Hunt Roddenberry. ;-)

The outside of PAX looks like a scene from the movie "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes". Was the buildings used in both movies?
