The scene of Luke looking at the horizon with two suns made an 11 year old (me) want to get on a spaceship and go see what's out there. Acolyte's scenes make me question whether I feel like taking a dump or drinking a glass of water. Connery fell out over Bond because he sued the studio over VHS sales. They put out the James Bond on home media, but none of the artists' contracts accounted for royalties for the new form of media and tried to shaft him. The suit took like ten years, and in that time he was blue-balled from the major studios and that's why he showed up in movies like the Highlander and Zardoz. Eventually, he got them to pay, and is attributed for the way contracts are now written for changing media and royalties.

In order for her to have somewhat of a decent fight against Max, Mad Max needed to be: A) Chained up B) Muzzled like a dog (granted the muzzle did save him from one face kick) C) Dying of dehydration D) Dying from sun stroke E) Weakened from having half his blood drained from his body F) Exhausted from hauling not only a car door along with him across the desert, but the grunt he was chained and hooked up to G) Literally had to fight while having a literal ball and chain attached to him, as well as people yanking on him periodically It was not a fair fight. If it was, Furiosa would've been bodied by Mad Max, even if he was being played by Tom Hardy.

Drinker and mauler: after listening to the discussions had over the past two open bars i really felt like Star Wars was no longer for me, and that was a sad realization. I talked with my dad about the acolyte, and we talked about how my son (3 months) won’t have the same legacy of Star Wars growing up that I did. My dad said, “sometimes after a certain point there’s no going back home”. I reflected on that, and I found one course of action that has reignited my love for Star Wars. That is I used my monthly audible credit to get Heir to the empire by Timothy Zahn (the original series). I am just going to dive back into legends and build up an incredible catalog of audio and physical books for my son to enjoy as he grows up! In the process it does in a sense let me enjoy many of the stories of my childhood and see what Star Wars is meant to be! Anyway thank you, as without these discussions I would not have stopped and thought about it as much! Congrats on 100 episodes.

There's an important detail everyone seems to have missed about the master wookie: as far as the Jedi should know given the information they had, master wookie could even be dead for a long time them. After all, they lost contact with him for something about a year. We, the audience, know he's alive because Mae said, but the Jedi don't.

I like the deathmatch segments, such arguments are always fun when everyone agrees that it's just for fun and not a (slightly) more sophisticated "my dad can beat your dad" argument where nobody wants to "lose" because they're so invested in "their side". So here's my takes on a couple of the matchups. Sauron vs Thanos... I wouldn't necessarily count out Sauron that easily. Thanos may be all powerful with the completed gauntlet, but you have to remember that besides just having incredibly powerful magic, Sauron is a master manipulator. I'd even go so far as to say that's his main strength, even more than all the powerful magic he has. When he was still under Morgoth, he wasn't a battle wizard or a court magician or some other role focused on magic. He was Morgoth's spymaster. A sneaky guy dealing in lies and deceit, and even afterwards he kept that up pretty well (tricking the mortal races into forging the rings, corrupting Saruman, etc). He could probably talk Thanos into the classic trap for beating "almighty" villains: Make them go "You know what? I'm going to limit myself and beat you with only 10% of my power because you triggered my delusions of grandeur or something! Oh no, I am defeated! You tricked me! Curse yooooouuuuuu!" The Kirks would have been a lot better if they swapped the images. That way you would have Pine glancing over at Shatner, looking all worried with Shatner showing that confident look of "that's right. I AM the better Kirk." No other comments needed, the result was obvious from the start. On the Bonds: Drinker: "I don't want people to think I'm totally biased." Everyone else, in their heads: "Even though we all are, and everyone knows it." Also, my headcanon for Bond is exactly as Disparu suggested: They're different people going by the same name. "James Bond" is a codename, just like "007" is a title, and the various actors are just different agents given the same codename when they gain their 00 status and become 007. I know that the actual canon is supposed to be that James Bond is always James Bond, the same guy throughout it all, but to me it makes sense that "the legend of 007" is more important than the person himself. Like, with spies and subterfuge, the facade is just as important as the truth, so I'm just keeping that as my own headcanon while still acknowledging that yes, it does contradict actual canon, but it's just for fun anyway. The spiderman fight: I'm kind of questioning the ruling. Drinker DID say at the very start that characters get their "basic loadout", but does the Stark suit really count as "basic loadout"? On both Arnold and Willis: I feel like both Dutch and McClane have a big advantage in how much they can use their environment, which is a big part of the setting here, the abandoned city with cover and corners and stuff. That's straight up McClane "home turf advantage" and while Dutch does fight in the jungle, he is shown to be very good at improvising and using his environment to set traps and stuff by the end of the movie. Not to mention they did have claymores and such from the start (as shown with the scene about the predator being able to see their regular tripwires so they made a net using vines which, along with the mud scene, is a big turning point for Dutch becoming able to take on the Predator), so that would be part of the "basic loadout" and he wouldn't even have to spend an hour hammering pipes into crude spears or whatever. Also for the Arnold characters (and everyone else too, for that matter, but that's where the argument was made), "plot armor" is not actually a power inherent to characters, so it wouldn't help in this scenario. It's literally in the name, the armor is part of the plot. It's a meta-level protection against failure where their own skills wouldn't have saved them. Plot armor would be like Drinker tallying the votes and saying that votes against a certain character don't count "because this guy was supposed to win". Only if the character is stated, in lore, to have powers that distort reality around them to prevent them from losing, would plot armor be a trait that applies here. Gandalf vs Magneto. Something everyone is forgetting (if only Gary was still around for that round): LotR is more than just the movies, and only the "same character, different actors" round had the caveat that it had to be that specific portrayal of the character. All the other rounds are just "that character at their prime/peak condition". Gandalf (and Sauron for that matter) aren't just what you see in the Jackson trilogy. Gandalf is the setting equivalence of an angel, like literally "supernatural being serving directly under the creator of the universe", and since the rules said "peak condition" that would mean he doesn't have to hide his powerlevel like he constantly does in LotR and The Hobbit, acting like he is just some old man with special powers. That goes doubly so as the rules explicitly forbid outside interference (no calling in allies or other forms of extra support), meaning not only can Gandalf use his full power without worry, but he can also use the ring he's hiding since Sauron has no influence over/effect on this "ruined city arena" setting, and he is the only one Gandalf is really hiding the ring from (everyone else is just so Sauron doesn't find out from them), so that's a massive force multiplier on his already ridiculous powerlevel. Like, "old man with special powers" could be used to describe Magneto as well, but that was Gandalf's cover story to appear inconspicuous. His actual powerlevel is so great that "one of the most powerful wizards in existence" is a disguise meant to make him NOT STAND OUT compared to what he could actually do. Even Gandalf the White is still the "Congratulations, you made me use more than 1% of my power" meme because if he actually used his real powers, everyone would notice, especially Sauron, and that's the one thing that can't be allowed to happen. Gandalf should have won that, no contest, the characters weren't actually even closely matched to begin with. Oh and by the way, on the subject of "last words to each other" in the Acolyte. I have a minor correction to make. The last thing Mei said wasn't "I'll kill you", it was "What have YOU done?!". I know the writing is so deep it's hard to keep track of it all, though, so I don't blame you for that. ;)

Gandalf at his full power potential is not something we have really seen on screen or on page. He specifically had restrictions placed on him when he came to Middle-Earth. We can't really account for all the things he could do, but Magneto doesn't come anywhere close to his level regardless

Okay I got to put some love in here for Gozer. Gozer is basically a God (or Demigod depending on how you look at it) only beaten at full power by another God. Worshipped for far longer then Imhotep was even alive. I know Gozer in the movie wasn't show to have much power, however in the game and comics they expand much more on its lore and powers.

Funnily enough I've always considered John Matrix to be Dutch after he retired - the army tucked him away to help protect the secrets he now knew about aliens coming to Earth. Re: Shogun Seasons 2 and 3, I don't see how this works. Clavell's book was based on the rise of the Tokugawa (Toranaga in the book and show) shogunate. His book and the show ended with Tokugawa winning the Battle of Sekigahara. After that, there was basically 250 years of mostly peace in a feudal society that didn't evolve much, until Matthew Perry sailed into Tokyo's harbor with modern ships. There's no historical material for them to work with for a compelling story unless they completely re-write Japanese history (and I question their ability to write something that good when they don't have Clavell's work to build off of). Clavell didn't even revisit Toranaga after "Shogun"...his next book about Japan ("Gai-Jin") didn't take place until 250 years later, long after everyone in "Shogun" was dead. People keep looking for this "Game of Thrones-style" TV show without realizing that there aren't a lot of those kinds of sagas available to adapt, and most of them aren't going to be written as well as James Clavell or George R.R. Martin (who never even finished GoT) wrote their stories. Also, when "Game of Thrones" went beyond the material that Martin wrote, the wheels fell off really fast on that series as the quality fell apart...because the showrunners were good at adapting the novels, but they weren't on Martin's level as writers for creating new content. I don't see the "Shogun" showrunners being anywhere near as talented as Clavell, especially when they'd have to create an entirely brand new history (which even Clavell didn't do) and make it as intricate and compelling as "Shogun" was. It also took nine years for Clavell to write "Shogun" after his previous Asian Saga book ("Tai-Pan"), and it took the TV series folks five years to produce season 1...I don't see them getting a quality second season out in two or three years.
