Honestly, I think this is pretty much what the producers were after. I mean I'm pretty sure they already have preauditions and knew they had to put a unique group somehow to draw interest to audience. They think a band in an idol show would probably fit that category. Shows like PD101 contact companies to send in trainees. PD101 brought in actors and even models w/o trainee experience. They probably have some kind of storyline in mind for entertainment. Like how would the disadvantaged survive in this set-up.

Exactly! Watching this after they've succeeded, and this makes no sense.

RBW CEO definitely has an eye for unique talents. Even i could feel their charisma even if they were nervous. I guess it matters what kind of people was looking for and it wasn't a raw performance like what these boys just served.

I don't think these judges understand the beauty of live music, playing instruments, enjoying yourself intead of frantically trying to remember a choreography, honestly they just feel attracted to all that flashy stuff, I don't like it.

yeah, that's what shows like The Unit are all about. showcasing and promoting flashy marketable groups to Korean audiences. this group would have gotten a better response if they had tried out for a show like Superband, where live music is understood and appreciated. anyway, they managed to debut as a band (ONEWE) so it didn't matter in the end.

mainly because that's the group they are trying to form. im sure they appreciate the fact that they can sing live, and can enjoy themselves on stage. but they want a group that showcases singing and dancing in their performance in the first place. it's a show to give another chance to failed idols. and idols sing and dance, they cant make use of their instrumental skills on a performance unless it's an award show performance. im sure they can see how great they perform as a band and all they said was they dont fit the program they cant just forget the aim of the show, but they still let them in

Me tooooooooo!!! I am a new WEVE and watching this I was happy and sad and happy again at the same time!!! Happy because i saw them before they debuted as Onewe Sad because the way they were asked about dancing and stuff like the judges didnt care about their music and only care about forming idol groups not bands for pure music And happy again cause they are finallyyyy a Band now so so soooo proud of these boys!!!!

I cant forget how smart and how good that megaphone singing sounded man i just had to watch again hahahahaaha ONEWE is such a talented group people should really know more about them

and i love how the audiences were cheering for them. kanghyun used to be the leader but because of the company changing direction, now they are coming back as onewe. i just really wish they really can conquer success in korean music industry

this performance is unbelievable. so creative and uplifting! that guy who played electric guitar played so well >< and dongmyeong's magical voice... it reminds me of one female vocalist's voice from the band Nightwish! o.o wow... This is a performance, this is music. Playing instruments, signing and putting on a fun performance that doesn’t look like it’s been performed by robots.

The attitude of the judges here reflects the general attitude in Kpop to bands and why kbands don’t have huge followings.

I got really pissed off when they asked if they could dance instead of complementing them on how beautifully the were performing by actually enjoying the stage and of course how talented their vocal and instrumental abilities are. But support onewe guys

Nah...watch a few more the Unit clips and you'll find some of them doesn't sound very nice without back vocals and all...... It's just that "idol" means those that sing and dance during performance in Korea.

What's this program about though? Like, is it specifically just for dancing and singing? Or just in general forming kpop groups? If it's the latter, then it would be frustrating they're only focusing on dancing. But if it's the first then their reactions are pretty acceptable

so i've come back to say that although i understand this show was meant for idol groups, not bands, i think there was a strategy to them joining this show. of course they'll stand out and gain attention for being in a place where they "don't belong", and people would've recognized dongmyeong from produce 101 season 2. honestly harin, yonghoon, kanghyun, and cya were done dirty, i think they did very well performing the one dance performance that they could do, especially harin and kanghyun who never have vocal parts. look at them anyway, onewe is doing so well 🥺 i hope they do continue to thrive, as a weve

The judges are just stupid marionettes who think that talent is only about dance. They can't see true talent

This just shows how company worth is really important in d success of idols , with all their hard work n effort , making a bang writing n composing songs they are still not valued now , they need to go expand out of Korea , if Koreans can't value them another nation will .

Does CNBlue dance?? Does FT Island dance?? Does Day6 dance?? Does N.Flying dance?? Does the rose dance?? And so on... Like they only have judges that can dance and sing (no hate) but they don't play an instrument for living so they won't understand... RBW did a very good job hiring them Smhhhh

I came to here to tell you that ONEWE (MAS) is extremely talented... They write and composed their own song which some of the contestant in this show can never do.

Or maybe it's just an strategy.. even if they don't do well in The Unit, at least they left a good first impression (for those who don't know them).. Even if they cant dance, The Unit is a famous show and surely a lot of people searched for their music and MVs after their performance... Also, a lot of artists join these kind of shows just to get their names known, if they do well in the competition is "super bonus" xD.. But I still think they can do well in The Unit, they just need to improve their dancing skills.. those places you mentioned are known for receiving indie artists, but if you check MAS stuff you will see they are more like k-pop band even if they started as independent group.. they started as busking singers MAS0094 and joined an independent lable, then changed to MAS when they signed under RBW Ent (as far as i know.. feel free to correct me anyone), same company as Mamamoo~ Also, MAS member Son Dongmyung participated in "Produce 101" 2 as RBW trainee.. so I think The Unit can be a good show for them.. i hope so :)

MAS has always performing on live club, like rolling hall or evans, since 2015. and they starts with busking on sideroad and parks around seoul. but dongmyung saying the stages for bands in Korea are limited is not wrong too. i think showing different side of them through this program is good. we, as fans, missed them being on the live club stages. but they recently signed to a mid-sized agency and maybe this is just something they have to go through before they can go back releasing their own music again.
