Oohhh Nooo Not another Indy boot video!!!!!! Customize your Indy boots.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We are not going to bash the Indy Boot, It'd been done by to many people. Instead I'm going to show you how you can customize your boots. This customer had a long list of what he wanted done. new foot bad. new split welt with blue stitching on the vertical part, change the toe apron stitching to blue, add solid brass speed hooks and eyelets, JR leather soles, leather stacked Thomas heel base, GTO crosshatch soles and heels. Added some cleaning and conditioning and we got one bad ass Indy boots.

I've always respected Steve for sharing his prices. When I see any job done on line I'm naturally curious what it cost. I question the creators who want to keep their prices secret for some odd reason. Charge a fair price and be proud of it.

The problem with your theory is that Price and Value (Value being the labor embodied in the boot and price being the money name or dollar amount of the boot for sale) are not in harmony with each other. So there is no way of determining Bedo’s labor to the amount of labor it takes in general to make a boot when bootmaking is factory produced requiring less labor to make. So its all simply based on what the boot owner is willing to pay for a boot. You’d have to compare Bedo’s labor to another product that takes equal time to make, for example, how much is a hand made Indy whip, say , $500. Whips are not machine made, they are hand crafted. With two handcrafted products we can compare the time element. How long does it take to make the whip and the boot to compare the two different labors to arrive at its real value? If the boot takes Bedo a day to make and the whip maker takes two days to make the whip then Bedo’s boot contains half the value of the whip. His price for the boot should be $250. Bedo is not going to sell a boot he makes for $250 pricing his work according to a value principal. This is because a whip and boot to Bedo and the whipmaker are completely two different kinds of labor are incomparable but this is where both Bedo and Mr. Whipmaker are wrong. We can compare a tailor’s work making a dress or pants, or suit to the labor of the making of the boot by hand by a boot maker because a boot is considered a garment, a whip is an accessory to a garment. Therefore, whip-making is not comparable with boot-making. The common thing to them is that they are hand made. But dress or suit makers and boot makers are comparable. A wedding dress cost, say, $10 grand and takes one month to produce, a boot made by hand takes two days. The value of the boot is 2/30ths of the value of the dress, comes to, 1/20 of value or $200 bucks. But dollars are not worth much they contain little value and command little value. The boot then would rise in price to $2000 dollars for a pair. Only a rich person would buy the boot. This is why economies are in crisis and real value is a complete mystery. The Alden machine made boot or partially machine made should be even less the price of a Bedo hand made restored or produced boot because there is less labor embodied in the Alden boot. Really, the disparity or inequality between price and value is the fault of buyers and sellers acting out of whim or affordability are willing to pay for a boot no matter what the price. Not Bedo’s fault that his labor loses less value everyday to the machine made boot makers, he has no choice but to charge a high price. The fault is with the buyers that Alden can raise the price as the value of the product in production falls compels the producers by hand of boots to raise the price because, simply, they can. There is no such thing as a fair price.

@@MrDXRamirezFirst of all his name is Steve. Second, you don’t have an effen clue what you are talking about. It doesn’t take many videos to see how many hours go into a typical job. For craftsmanship at this level, $100/hr would be fair. The cost of leather is very high. $800 ish for this job is absolutely fair. And yes, if the fair price is more than someone is willing to pay, they won’t won’t pay. But Steve works days, nights and weekends and has a backlog at all times, so clearly the willingness to pay and perception of value is there for his customers. And to compare Steve-made boots with machine made boots is a waste of words. Steve doesn’t make boots. He repairs and restores. There is no comparison with a manufactured product. Steve has a vibrant business and hundreds of happy customers. You, on the other hand, are an unhappy keyboard warrior that doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

I just recently found out the reason they are called Indy boots. Harrison Ford refused to wear Red Wings because he had worn Alden boots for years and so they used them for the Indiana Jones Movie. Again a very beautiful job I have worn pull on Red Wings for years and they have been very good long wearing comfortable steel toe boots each pair lasted a decade in rough oilfield work. I recently bought a new pair for twice the price of last pair. I think people should try and buy Made in USA when ever possible.

I think the biggest issue people have with the Aldens is that they expect all the materials to be premium/ luxurious based on the price, it's not a concern of function and longevity just perceived value which seems to be a bit of an arbitrary thing . I get that certain materials can add time / cost to a resole, but 2 boots with equal materials should have equal resole costs regardless of what the boot cost. It's 2 separate purchases and the $500+ the boot originally cost is not still a noticeable expenditure in a few years.

I just got a singer 241-2 (industrial machine for mid-heavyweight materials from the early 1940s) and I'm going to use it mainly for denim and garment sewing but I found some old deer hide I want to make into little shoes for my 2 year old to run around in. The hide is pretty thin so it should go through the machine well. I've always wanted a sailrite machine so I wouldn't have to limit my projects (and I'm not interested in hand sewing right now) My husband still loves the shoes I surprised him with for our wedding 4 years ago. You did a wonderful job on them and I was so thankful I was able to have a quality used pair of shoes re-soled so he could feel as pretty as he makes me feel

Didn’t you know you can sharpen that there disposable blade??? 😂 But seriously, I feel you about that awesome hand press for the metal fasteners. I make clothes and have something similar for jeans buttons, rivets, eyelets etc. I used to dread it, they go in right at the end and can ruin a virtually finished garment if they screw up. The press does wonders for my peace of mind! And I am always so in awe of your sewing skills, they are not much discussed here, but you make those machines deliver their best and you possess such casual precision, it’s a joy to watch. They’re the most comfortable boots I’ve ever put on my feet and I love them…. I look at it this way….. They are worth what you’ll pay for for them….
