imagine if you could go back in time, and secretly install this on a demonstration model at the time.... to most people the demo would make the computer look like it became sentient and wanted to destroy humanity, with tentacles made up out of scary green garbled code!

+Dennis Malmberg The response would be difficult to speculate, because demoscene didn't exist yet when these computers were sold. Only some character drawn animations were found from disk magazine floppies. It's our goal to do justice to these computers by doing things no-one would expect back then.

seriously this demo would really suit the "evil sentient retro computer" in a film... or game! talking about a game, this demo reminds me a bit of "scp-079" wich is exactly that: sentient evil software locked inside a computer from the 80ies. But unfortunately it mostly displays a garbled face.... not the creepy cool evil sounds and code tentacles that this demo has.

Unfortunately not on CBM 8032. It works only on CBM 4032 and other 40-column-models. Even within them it doesn’t work on all models. I just bought a CBM-4032-32B and immediately tried No pets allowed and got disappointed with half a screen completely green, after half a minute it got reeeeaaal sloooow and after a couple of minutes ir attempted to destroy the CRT. Undocumented features of the PET/CBM models weren’t very compatible.

IIs there a risk of the KILLER POKE effect that spoils crt?

Not in this one since CBM 8032 doesn’t have the row height adjustment trick that 4032 has. All you see is petscii stuff.

The audio hardware makes it challenging. You either have tonal music but all just high pitched chirps with no frequencies below 242 Hz or the stuff you hear in our demos. I wanted to dive into the hardware since it was pretty badly documented and I wanted to find a new technique to achieve. Instead of using the engine used in Orb’s No pets allowed.
