South-Africa would still be Zulus conquering other tribes, and then most black afrcans whould have all been subjected to the British crown and today be ruled over by Britain.

I am also Norwegian over here. And I love the Afrikaans language. I want to travel there some day. Scandinavians aren't numerous in South Africa nowadays I think. But back in the 19th century I think they were more.

i was invited to a boer war re-enacment, it was new for me as i do american civil war re-enacting but i loved it, i didnt know the history of it till a few months ago, the boer's were brave men fighting to stay in there country, truly brave men...

When the first Dutch (as well as French Hugenots & Spaniards) settled in South Africa, the land was uninhabited. Then the British settled the Cape, and drove the Afrikaaners north. At the time, the Zulus were migrating south, to escape a drought...the two groups clashed and fought several wars. But the Afrikaaners--at first--were the only people (other than the Vikings in Iceland :) ), in modern times, to have established a country without displacing, killing, or subduing people already there.

Kitchener simply decided to burn down every Boer homestead and take the wives and children to concentration camps where they died of malnutrition or disease. The Boers had to give up in the face of genocide.

IwasInThe60s Remember many Scots, English and some Welsh and Irish became Afrikaans speaking Afrikaner-Boers and like there fellow Afrikaners-Boers had there homes burnt down the farms destroyed and where also put into the concentration camps. This also went for many many English speaking Afrikaners of Scottish, English, Welsh and Irish descent.

This is what people fail to understand about us, white South Africans. Yes, we are white, but we are fundamentaly African. And you know what? The vast majority of our black countrymen don't despute the fact.

Let me Educate you on a few points that you seem to have forgotten. When our Cousins fled Europe and arrived in ZA the land was un-inhabited, wich means that there was nobody there. In 1830 when the british took control of The Cape Colony, the Boere went a a great Trek that led them up north. They settled in a land that was, once again, uninhabited. Only at the battle of Blood river were the Voortrekkers attacked by a Zulu tribe.
