This is such a great analysis! You noticed so many things I would have never noticed😂 the church for example, that's such an interesting thing to consider. Also the phone booth junji rie scene being the last one is Canon for me now. When be free came out, I was actually convinced that is had a bad ending for a pretty long time, up until it was said otherwise by the members😂 My theory was that the pink lightning shows yoojungs immaturity, how he sees everything through a pink lens and how naive he is, but that what they had was actually a short affair where kb took advantage from yoojung. Which is also why the lights keep getting brighter and brighter, reaching their peak at firstly the Romeo and Romeo scene, but also the scene where they sit on the couch and yoojung sniffs the alcohol and finds it disgusting. In the end, yoojung stayed in bed, helpless, with the slight reducing pink light, only covering his arms, and kb now completely out of the light, meaning that they're back in reality, and yoojung made a hard experience. But then they said that it's a happy ending so 🤷‍♀️ that makes that theory irrelevant😂 but I still thought I might share

Thank you for the comment. I believe the members said be free's ending is open for interpretation. I think they are always aiming for that. The reason I think the phonebooth is JunRie's ending because that scene is kinda out of the place + Rie has an apologetic look.

so this may be 5 months late but i'm binge watching OOO content and theories and this happened to be a video i stumbled across. i really enjoyed watching this and seeing your take on the series, so i wanted to share my own thoughts. firstly, the cranes. the most popular, and my favorite, theory regarding the cranes is that they symbolize patience. when KB was drunk and threw himself into the phone booth, yoojung brought him home and left a paper crane in his wake as a way for him to tell KB he was the one who brought him home without actually telling him. i think that, seeing the cranes as patience, yoojung leaving the crane acted as a message to the drunken KB saying that he would wait for him, implying that he's willing to be patient for KB. he's not uninterested because of KB's lack of initiative, but rather, he wants KB to accept himself and is willing to stay by his side until he's able to do so. for junji and rie, they fold them together, which is most likely a reference to the idea that if a couple folds 1000 paper cranes together, they'll have a long and prosperous marriage, if we look at the cranes as a symbol of patience. folding 1000 paper cranes takes time and patience, and shows dedication to the relationship. so, when junji steps on the cranes after shoving them off the table, it shows that junji is no longer patient with rie and wants their relationship to move forward, despite rie being afraid of taking the next step. in mill and nine's case, they don't have paper cranes. i think that it's because they're both completely open about their feelings and don't feel the need to be patient and wait for each other. this is expressed through the phone booth, which symbolizes their personal thoughts and feelings about openly expressing how they feel romantically. mill and nine are never in the phone booth, which means that they've never had the need to hide themselves from the world. neither is junji, but rie is, showing that he's not quite ready, which is most likely why junji grew impatient. both yoojung and KB are in and out of the phone booth, expressing their inner conflict. yoojung's, with the world, and KB's, with himself. this actually brings me to my next thought, which is about which scene concludes the junrie storyline. i like the idea of the phone booth scene being the ending, but i've always felt that the kiss at the end of "be mine" and beginning of "because" was the conclusion. like i said, i believe that rie has trouble with being open about his sexuality, as opposed to junji who's completely confident in who he's attracted to. i think that the phone booth scene is a direct reference to this, because in rie's solo scenes in his MV, you can see him outside of the phone booth while singing about his desires. i think this is because after the fight with junji, he realizes that his inner conflict about openly expressing himself isn't worth losing who he loves, so he wants to make a change. this is why rie looks nervous and doesn't lean in during the kiss scene like he did in the pool. it's his first time being affectionate out in the open, but he accepts the kiss because he wants to change for the better. lmao this is so long, i'm so sorry, but i really do love seeing everyones opinions about the undergrOund idOl series, it's so interesting. OnlyOneOf is the only group i've ever considered actually stanning. they make me feel heard as someone who's queer, and i just love them so much.

@@MiMi-dg9vt seriously, they execute everything in a way that tells multiple stories from multiple perspectives, with many different interpretations. one thing i love about skinz is that the song and lyrics describe self-love and accepting yourself despite what others call imperfections, but the sound of it makes you feel uneasy, which goes with the music videos story of a fans parasocial relationship with OnlyOneOf. but then the MV can also be interpreted as encouraging the listener to accept themselves. they use one song to tell different stories. i love how they’re able to keep everything ambiguous in their work

this is such a great analysis! i seriously never realised the religious implications in the undergOund idol project. i had such a big oooh moment. please continue making these OOO analysis!! now my theories: the lyrics of be mine (and the title) show the song is all about openly desiring your partner. and the lyrics of because is about expressing the emotional importance of your partner. i think the reason of their argument is the different focus they have on their relationship. "like universe it can't be explained, hope you feel the same as i do." is a line from because. rie misunderstands junji's strong desire for physical touch as junji doesn't want anything other than that, and hes not taking their relationship seriously. or junji feels pressured by rie putting him on a pedestal and the conversation spiralled. i totally agree with your theory about the paper cranes. why the paper cranes aren't in beat and beyond i think is because mill didn't expect anything from nine. to mill, nine talking and interacting with him without prejudice is enough. or rather than expect a relationship with nine, mill admires him for being able to be so free and is happy he gets to experience freedom when with nine. and for nine, he doesn't think much about what they'll be when their together and simply just wants to be in a relationship with mill.

Thank you for your comment! As Mill and Nine said in the seOul drift MV behind, they became awkward after the kiss and hasn't been with each other since. Then they met again in the pie shop. It is likely that they never expected a relationship from the beginning.
