    I know right? I've made the mistake of watching actual gore tube videos and such and what strikes me is how basically no actors sound like the real thing if you watch those. In this scene, the actor is actually pretty close. He's talented, lol.

    It is an art movie. So it is not made to "entertain" the mainstream. Does mainstream people go see painting or listen classical music too much? No because they dont find it entertaining. I personally loved the movie and found out so many aspects. Some people dont like it, don't like it then. Then again, some people consider movies like Anti-Christ or Melancholia artistic and great movies, where I found them to be pretty pretentious over artistic shit. This movie kept pretty much it in moderate. It is not for simply persons, yet it is about matter of taste.

    Mez Hossain That is true, most of the people compare it to the original movie, or expected action packed Michael Bay-bullshit. But artistically it is not over the top, beautifull movie with good cinematography and symbolism, not too complicated plot also. It needs lot of research, after watching it several times, people will discover the meaning of it, in time they will also appreciate it.

    It's just art for people with sadistic tendencies. This scene is just violence for violence sake and Kubrick did it in Clockwork Orange but that had a point about violence itself when this has none. It's a director tripping on how violent he can be, the furthest away from Ahimsa principle.

Sbarnett37tiger proabably can't have very deep thoughts, which is alright, cause this movie is only for people who can watch movies in a philosophical and meaningful manner.

  • @SammersM

    @SammersM

    ***** Almost right. The writer said he made the movie as a deep and meaningful story essentially for himself. He was never trying to entertain an audience. So what he wanted to film was Ryan Gosling staring into space with the same stupid expression on his face for 1 and a half hours. I still enjoyed it to an extent, but yeah it was pretty fucking ridiculous.

  • @trevorstrailers5884

    @trevorstrailers5884

    @sbarnett37tiger Boring is an opinionated word. So yes there would have to be a debate.. Nicholas Winding Refn said he made this movie for himself, this was his "porno". Personally I felt what he was trying to do. I felt the emotion and the deep level of thought he conveyed. The reason Ryan Gosling had one facial expression is because he was not allowed to show emotion because his mother had stripped that from him, but you could feel the distraught that was within him. You could feel his anger, his love, his compassion, his sensitivity. The most memorable scene in this movie to me was when he told his "girlfriend/love interest" to take off the dress he gave her. You could see the anger that dwelled within him unleash at that moment, and that was as powerful a scene as I have ever seen. So no this movie was not "dead boring" because it wasn't to me and the thousands of others that understood what this movie was about.

  • @jackiekelly4776

    @jackiekelly4776

    Trevors Trailers I agree with you in that the scene where he angrily yells at "Mai"( dunno if that's the right spelling or pronunciation *shrugs*) to take off the dress was simultaneously hard to watch and very well done because at first he quietly, patiently, and(somewhat)calmly "tells" her to take it off but when she starts to question/defy him, he has her backed up against the wall and is literally screaming in her face all within the blink of an eye and, like you said, it's during this scene that the viewer/audience both witnesses and is able to feel the palpable sense of anger and internal conflict that his character struggles with. 💯

    anton823 Apples and oranges. Yes, Refn is influenced by Lynch, but what avant-garde filmmaker that started making movies after Lynch, hasn't ripped off some element of his style it's kind of impossible not to cos the man created a visual language that has widely informed cinema in general since his arrival. Btw, MOST movies are crap compared to BlueVelvet as it is a stunning masterwork, but OGF IS a brilliantly constructed/executed, pitch perfect, exercise in thematic meditation, momentum, & tone. It establishes ideas that come the ending are all fully realized

    @Jesse Brennan None ! That is why Dennis Hopper is considered the most whacked and sleaziest villain in film history. However there are others who are far more traumatic . Noah Cross , the amoral, power drunk , politically connected, extremely wealthy landowner in Chinatown , Michael Pitt's Character Paul in Funny Games , Matty Walker in Body Heat, Henry in Portrait of a Serial Killer, Bernie Rose in Drive and for my money the best Hannibal Lecter was the first one , Brian Cox ! Why ? Because as one astute blogger put it " Sure Anthony Hopkins is scary but he is a Hammer Horror film type villain and you know he is sinister from the getgo and Mads is an interesting personable high society one but Brian Cox is the one that walks among us unnoticed and undetected !" I could actually see Brian Cox 's Hannibal walking into that hardware store in Breaking Bad and later making a meal out of Walt if he is interested with Walt not seeing it coming at all ! ' Anyway from what I know of this film this torturer is actually supposed to be a good guy and that is all I will say. Movie is a surrealistic , Kafkaesque nightmare & I wish people would quit dissing it just because the Director ,as are many influenced. by David Lynch.

    chang was by far my favorite character in this film. everything in this film was a form of symbolism. chang being a twisted form of an angel of retribution. complete mindfuck that had me thinking for weeks after the film. same with valhalla rising - which i also loved (as disturbing and creepy as it was).

    @@waltzink147 Well if you believe in Ahimsa this movie is blasphemous to God and only brings bad karma to the filmmaker. I mean "angel of retribution", what religion is that. Demon of retribution maybe?

    The same people who call this art, are the same people who think Andy Warhol's Campbell's soup can should command 10 million dollars at an auction. The last time I checked, people go to the movies to be entertained. I watched this on Netflix on a Saturday. When Monday came around, I set up a doctor's appointment to get on anti depressants. I had to do this because I developed PTSD after watching it.
