    I havent taken any meds. My inner monologue or rather dialogue has always been strong within me. It fogged down quite a bit over the years I learned to ignore it, but give me a moment of lack of stimuli and the first thing I notice is the noise. I cant fall asleep without a distraction since ever, and when I do, its out of exhaustion. 28, never medicated, always struggled with the simplest tasks. If I've been able to have episodes of functionality without the meds, I absolutely wonder how it would be on medication. You guys should consider yourself lucky. I could probably manage to stuff down that sandwich regardless of whether I'm hungry or not, since I somehow manage to get to eat while caffeinating myself.

    Heyyy welcome to the party! Vyvanse is great stuff. Completely changed my life. Overnight, (not really bc of course I don't take it before bed for obvious reasons but you get the idea), I went from a non-productive, depressed mess who couldn't help but drag her feet on just about everything, even things I love and feeling so awful and down, because I couldn't get anything done, as well as constantly comparing myself to neurotypicals and feeling so jealous of their "normalcy" to feeling like HOLY SHIT THIS IS WHAT LIFE IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE? WOOOOOOOO I CAN GET SHIT DONE??? I CAN PARTICIPATE IN GROUP LEARNING? I CAN GET SCHOOLWORK DONE?? I CAN ACTUALLY USE UP MY ENERGY IN THE DAY AND SLEEP WELL AT NIGHT??? It's a similar, but far more intense feeling to the one I get as a person with asthma whenever I have a mint candy like a mentos or whatever, and I remember what being able to breathe freely is like without phlegm stuffing up the already limited area of my windpipe... ...if you haven't already guessed I'm so used to having asthma that I rarely use my inhaler because I don't register minor breathing difficulties as a problem. oops.

  • @charlottebarham7722

    @charlottebarham7722

    @@LDZombie 50mg can be a lot for when you're just starting out. As with many psychiatric medications, you'll want to start out slow, especially since Vyvanse is a stimulant. Over time you'll build a tolerance and will go higher on dosage (under your doctor's supervision, of course.) Stimulants can be a lot when you've only just started them and they can fuck with your sleep and heart immensely if you take them at the wrong time or take more than your body can handle at a given time. The way you've written it, it sounds like you've stopped cold turkey, am I correct? Just with going up, if you're stopping stimulants you need to go down gradually over a few days or more depending on the size of your dose, or you will crash, badly. Glad you got so much help out of them though! As long as you're using them properly under a doctor's supervision Vyvanse can really change your life for the better. Hopefully you'll be able to get your hands on lower dosage tablets/pills and start up again soon. Best of luck to you!

Some heavy set man may only need a low dose, while a child thrives off of a higher dose. Also, maybe a different medication. I took Ritalin for 8 months before I realized it did nothing for me and I was so frustrated. My doctor changed me over to Adderall and it's like a light switch. @@frogbrain944 I’ve had like four of them already just as an adult lol so like already tired that lol and that’s kinda the problem tho like I guess when they ask you if you’ve had any that has worked and I tell them that, it’s not an appropriate answer for me to say that I liked the adderall the best (even tho it was, as it worked to help me in many ways a lot of which was more than any other one/s I’ve tried) and it’s like it shouldn’t be this hard exactly but it is and along with already being severely depressed it’s like just too much (especially considering I went to the same place, just different doctor, yet still it’s the same thing as if it never happened) I really don’t know what to do anymore tho it’s been years of me fighting and trying, I’ve never had a job, never had a relationship of any kind even friends because I am not able to keep up long enough to even have that lol (each time I try to get on some kinda disability they end up denying it because none of my doctors want to help me there too, as if them doing that to me ain’t causing more damage lol like thanks to mom for not kicking me out over all these years?) Side note that is kinda relating to this as well, the anxiety, I have been diagnosed with with severe anxiety and have even been given Xanax before from again that one kids psych as well as a primary doctor and it’s so funny to me because this is not new like ever since I was little (like 8 or so?) the only one thing that everyone was able to agree on (because a lot of them didn’t know what it was that was ‘wrong’ but knew it was something bigger then what they could do) but it was that my depression and anxiety were a problem and a severe one at that. I’d think that would qualify for anxiety medicine like something as needed you know like something that will help if it becomes bad or if I had something that I had to do that’s important yet my body physically works against me, like I mean it’s not far off and I’ve heard it be a thing where you can get allowed a set number for the month like that just in case would be a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, but there too I guess it’s not bad enough or something? … or maybe I’ve internalized it all like I know for a fact it’s there I had flashbacks and stuff in middle/ high school lol like sure they don’t happen as frequently anymore but they still like to pop back up for a day or two, and in that case I am only powerless, it’s just me and my brain/ body that I get to sit and suffer with myself, quite literally tho and I mean I get it like sure who would want that lol I mean heck I don’t even want it lol but too bad that it’s about all I know, so there really is nothing else. Still makes me sad tho lol like I can feel it, the spiral, it pulls at me and all I can do is just stay still because if I don’t move then nothing bad will happen, just resist it. Always.

    Most frustrating things about ADHD as an adult: Taking forever to complete one task because you get so distracted by other tasks that weren't even planned nor necessary to complete the one, having numerous multitasking going on at once, the amount of post-its you use and other self created reminders, trying to look up one thing but venturing off to about 15 other things, having insomnia because your brain does cardio at night or because you randomly get the urge to research whether giraffes can dance, explaining one thing that leads to at least 10 "long story short but still long" details, etc...

    The worse part is that I teach...I used a technology example for a math problem one day. I then went into comparing the ideologies behind the Jetsons and the Flintstones and how we're moving closer to living like the Jetsons. Anyway, at the end of it all, the little boy's name on the Jetson's was Elroy and the Flintstones' boss's daughter was named Concretia because he owned the concrete business. I had to look it up because I couldn't remember the kids' name and my students didn't know. I swear the initial example had to do with the distance a drone could cover...

    Meth did the same thing for me. Unfortunately, it came with very nasty side effects and I ended up in jail due to no sleep lash out + withdrawal symptoms. Anyway, its very important to see a qualified professional to get assessed and diagnosed and perhaps even medicated. It sucks to go down the meth rabbit hole and see the men that leer from behind the veil. Self-medication is not the way to go. I regret every day of the years I did meth. Even now I can sometimes see feet running away from me in the corners of my vision. Its scary. And makes it so much harder to get back on the proper meds once it becomes known one has used/uses drugs. I just wanted to put that out there because we're so much more prone to having substance use issues. ❤

    @@theempireofjudah9315 For neurotypical brains, yes. Weed is generally problematic for people who have executive functioning disorders like ADD and ADHD. I do smoke weed and eat edibles, but it's the last thing I do at night when I want to sleep because it shuts my brain off. The combined types of ADD that I have keep my brain in a shut down state all of the time unless I take my meds, so the last thing I need is something that will mellow me out- I function best on stimulant based meds, or "uppers". Another symptom of my ADDs is that I hyperfocus- my brain zeros in on one thing, gets stuck in a loop and then I can't multitask or even think about other things at the same time. And if my hyperfocus is broken then it's extremely hard for me to get back into the task I was doing before I got distracted. That's really bad for my job where I have to be alert, able to work on several things at a time and be able to easily switch gears. Sativas tend to enhance your focus and I definitely don't need anymore of that. lol I can see how it might help with the hyperactivity part of ADHD though.

I often wonder what it's like for them. I continually ask them how they feel and if they want to stop their meds. Just to give them the option. They know that I support them in whatever they want to do for this. But I still continue to wonder how this effects them and if it is helpful. From experience, long experience, I would lie down and try to relax and see how you feel: reading through the comments I am obviously not the only one to think that this is a somewhat misleading representation of the experience of adhd/adhd meds - not wishing to put anyone's diagnosis or medication use down I would perhaps say that there might be very very different conditions that come out the same, but in my experience and that of many others I have talked to, a good test for adhd is if you find the meds profoundly relaxing. I was never the hyperactive presentation of adhd more the spaced out one, yet I discovered that I have never been able to truly even physically relax until I took dexamphetamine, which as far as I know is basically 'same meat different gravy' with adderall, but I wish I had known this before I took them because I would have been able to make better use of them a lot sooner had I known that and expected that from the beginning:: that is not to say that they will not help you get things done, its just that they are far more effective if you are not expecting an energising effect, which they can simultaneously have: to explain this: imagine you are in a bog , and it is foggy and you have a heavy pack on your back, and you get onto dry land and the mist clears and the pack lightens: you would have an enormous sense of relief and relaxation: and then go forwards in a much more efficient and less tiring manner. This is what it feels like for people with true adhd to take stimulants. I always feel a bit bad saying 'true' adhd because as I say I do not want to do down anyone who benefits from both the diagnosis and the meds who does not have this experience, but, well, that is how it is. I have just got a new addition in mind to the bog/fog/heavy pack metaphor: it is a heavy pack from which things keep falling off and getting lost so you have to keep trying to catch them and stop and retrace your steps and search for them and stuff like that - and when you get out of the bog the things in the back pack get arranged into order so that they stay in place and you are able to stop being in a constant state of feeling like you are trying to juggle and constantly worry if anything has slipped off without you noticing (and you know that if something does slip off, you will notice). I have also discovered, and there are others who feel the same, that I get a far more effective night's sleep when I sleep on the meds - there is the possibility therefore that I have been slightly sleep-deprived all my life - but insomuch as I can only get prescribed one does of the meds I am always keen to get things done whilst I have the facilitating effect of the meds in that respect: I know however that this can have a counter-effect if I am not well slept in particular of getting 'stuck' on things - one might call it hyperfocus but it is not terribly productive because it is over-detailed. If i were you I would just experience the meds ad first - even go to sleep if this is the effect they have (although as I recall at the very beginning the stimulant effcts did make my heart beat out of my chest - sometimes if my anxiety was high, although in the overall effect I find them to be anti-anxiety - again the feeling is that because things are clearer I can cope better with things and think more clearly about things, so they are less anxiety-inducing - plus when I am really tired all I want to do is go to sleep anyway. I have got rather long with this (not on meds at the mo, so struggling not to be long winded) and I don't feel it is as effectively explained as I can sometimes manage, but the bog/fog/etc metaphor is a useful standby for the main principle of the matter at least - and I noticed that you wrote this seven hours ago from now so I thought I better dive on in in case you read it before you take them and it might be of use to at least have thought about them like this. Even if you just give it five or ten minutes of chill-time before you get going I think you may well find that will help you make much more productive use of them in the long run (whether the long run over days and weeks or the long run as in getting shit done today. The bit I am struggling to think how to explain iwhat it is like and how it works s that when I try to jump into everything on the meds it can be counter productive where when I just take a step back and chill, I go on into things a lot more smoothly and more effectively. Io have talked to a lot of people and rather got to the point that I would like to say a test for adhd would almost be one's reaction to stimulants ( I have even come across people perplexed by the fact that taking cocaine and speed results in them curling up and going to sleep whilst everyone else is partying - I was like, get a bloody adhd diagnosis for God's sake!. Beseides a number of comments on this video the only other reference I can think of about this right now is that there is a KZreadr I often quote in trying to get through to people who think I just want more because it is 'a performance enhancer,' called Brian Jenks who has a video on taking adhd meds who says, "what makes you go 'zoom' makes us go 'ahhh' (sigh of relief)." I hope this helps.

    I never got prescribed adderall, but somehow dated 2 girls who were prescribed adderall. One was my ex-girlfriend and when she took it, she would always try to break up with me lol She was so depressed when she was on it. The girl I dated who was never my girlfriend that was prescribed adderall, let me try it and my heart was filled with pure bliss and confidence. The first time I took it, we laid on my bed, and had a conversation that lasted for hours. She eventually would sell it to me cause she would take it for weight loss, but it didn't work for that for her. It made me feel "normal" for the first time in a very ver long time, but also made me feel like I was on top of the world. My focus was so sharp, it gave me an ego, and made me be able to have very deep and articulate conversations with so many people. I miss it to this day cause I could never get it prescribed to me.

I'm horribly overweight and would love a medicine that makes food unappetizing for awhile.

    @@marydidyouknow5826 1) I love your KZread name. 🤍 2) I’m the same way with not eating all day then all of a sudden eating my weight in food at night (or 2/3am cuz you know most of us are up that late anyway). 🤗 The only two things that help me with this unfortunately takes energy but it’s worth it in the bigger scheme of things. (I don’t successfully do these things all the time of course. On those days I may eat like 💩 but I’m learning to remind myself to focus on the fact that I’m still feeding myself something) 1) I meal prep, usually on Sundays - Even if it’s a big batch of comfort food or something as simple as slices of deli meat, cheese, etc. 😋 I basically pack a complete meal in single serving containers, that way all I have to do is heat it up in the microwave throughout the week! It takes energy of course, so I don’t put any pressure on myself to diligently do it every week. I’ve discovered that routine does help me with anxiety, so I try to push myself to get it done. The dopamine reward of a nice ready made meal beats feeling hAngry any day, or the feeling of guilt that comes with raiding your kitchen SWAT team style at night. 😅 I forgot what my second point was. 😫 But it was so good. Damnit. ADHD is a blessing and a curse. 😆 I’m sorry you have the struggles that you do. You’ve got tens and thousands of people to lean on for help or a listening ear at least! 🥰 Makes the world of adhd a little smaller. :) Edit: I just re read my comment and see that I’d made my 2 points after all. I’m choosing to keep my original response because this entire message is so typical. 😂

    I’ve personally never had this experience and I’ve also never heard of anyone legitimately diagnosed by a psychiatrist as having ADHD that has had a reaction like this in my life. It’s not impossible, but again 🤷🏻‍♂️. Before I was diagnosed, there would be random, nonsensical thoughts mixed in with 2-3 different songs, full commercials, my inner “Milton” ruminating that I haven’t checked my oil in almost a year and why did I come in to the kitchen? About a week after having started my prescription, thoughts have become linear, the songs & commercials have quieted down almost completely, “Milton” has chilled the F out, and I still don’t remember why I walked in to the kitchen.

So I made a deal with his Dad to only have him take it during the school year, to give him a break for the summer, and be evaluated before school started again. He told me he hated the medication as a teen when i finally put my foot down with his Dad. He is a fully functioning adult, owns his home, and works as a butchers apprentice.
