I think this is a great comment, but don't forget that some super smart people are very clever at hiding their intelligence. Also, some of the smartest concepts are also the most simple concepts. It is easy knowing the right thing to do. Doing is the hard part.

anyone would be genius then. Geniuses have high end intelligence trait. whilst Phil achieved success trough "experience" (he was skillful). Imo, he is very smart, calling him genius is an insult to his work ethic.

I do in fact think that Phil Galfond is "super smart." But when you use the term "genius" you specifically mean to imply that the heights he attains are utterly unavailable to merely "intelligent" people. I don't think what Phil does is unattainable by others--and I don't think he believes that, either. That was my main point.

The thing is, he's NOT a genius (as far as you can tell). He's just a generally smart guy who does his homework, works everyday at improving, and tries--every time--to play a hand the best it can be played. If he's a genius, then a non-genius could not do what he's done. Nothing he said gives that impression. Most of success depends on using your brain in the RIGHT WAY, instead of having a brain that can do things other brains can't.

The bar mitzvah isn't really about becoming a man, it's about becoming rich! Jews get a lot a heat, but that's just because we're jealous of them.
