Final conclusion the FiiO M17 blew the Onkyo CD player away! No comparison especially at higher volume. But the CD Player still sounded good. This was just for fun and wasn’t a review.

Hi Dave nice and detailed review as always. The comparison is hard to evaluate via youtube, for me the CD player sounded very good but I felt the M17 was clearer with a wider soundstage but I could be wrong in my imagination. Thanks for sharing your experiences I enjoyed watching.🙏🙏

This wasn’t really a review, I was just curious how the Onkyo CD Player would sound in my system. It was decent but the FiiO M17 destroyed it 😆

Exactly, the M17 is superior in every aspect when it comes to high fidelity and when it comes to driving analog, the M17 is far better than the average car audio DSP. Mr 17 kills most dsps on the market today.😎

Reminds of the time I bridged my Brother's pioneer home speakers on my Alpine 3554 in my '89 Dodge Daytona.

It’s always fun testing things just to see how it sounds

I still buy and rip CDs lol. Digital out of my FiiO M11 into a Helix DSP.3S. Just a cheap way to get “decent” audio.

@@karateprabha166 I never used the regular M11 Plus, just the M11 Plus LTD which was the better out of the two. There really isn’t any comparison other than you can watch my reviews as I did reviews for each one. The M17 was one of the best DAP’s ever made and has more inputs and outputs than pretty much every DAP. Will see what the M23 and M27 sound like this year. I’ll do reviews on both.

Nice, the last pioneer cd player I had was the Pioneer Premier PRS99 and it was my second favourite CD player of all time right behind the Clarion drx9255.

I'm looking to buy the m23 also. The last music player I had was the Zune player. I understand these fiio dap have better dac chip now. My question is how those Dap compared to a smartphone in terms of music quality? I mainly want to use it in my vehicle which already have a decent sounds system. Honestly I'm not sure if this would be a worthy investment.

This comparison between cd player and DAP may be similar with Apple Music vs Tidal... Apple Music is fuller, bass + mid bass bigger... The opposite happens in Tidal... Thinner vocal but faster and better dynamics... Correct me if I am wrong :)

The M17 was far better on everything but the Onkyo CD player still sounded good. As for streaming services like Tidal & Apple Music I use both but for the most part I’m on Apple Music.

CEL OR DAP -> IFI DIABLO BY USB -> CABLE BALANCED 4.4 LINE OUTPUT -> TWO RCA AMPLIFIER R/L. Thats all my perfect sound xD now

I haven’t tested anything from iFi yet but I might test the ifi Zen WiFi streamer and see if it sounds as good as the WIIM Mini streamer.
