Tomato Onion Chutney is one of the popular chutney prepared in several states of South India. Each state has a small variation to the recipe but in the end, it is a recipe full of flavour and is pretty easy & quick to make.

Ingredients:
Oil - 5tbsp
Heeng (asafoetida) - ½ tsp
Urad dal - 1 tbsp
Dry red chilli - 2nos
Mustard Seeds - 2 tsp
Cumin - 2 tsp
Garlic cloves - 6nos
Ginger - a small piece
Curry leaves - a handful
Onion chunks - 1 cup
Green chilli - 1 no
Tomato chunks - 2 cups
Salt - to taste
Tamarind pulp (thick) - 1 tbsp

Tried it now.. its good.. I prepared dosa adding some grated carrot n lil onion by sprinkling some coconut oil.. dis chutney was a good combination. Thanks chef

Thank you Kunal, I first tasted this chutney at Uddupi in South Delhi with Dosa and I was not aware this is made of tomato and onion I thought it's thier speciality. I usually Never comment And i used to think that all these i tried it was nice comments are a form of butt licking But tbh this recipe changed my life I used to cook this every week before going to college And now that I'm back home I'm revisiting this video Just wanted to let you know It always comes out absolutely tasty Thank you so much sir
I make this . Just the same way. Same ingredients too. The only difference is that ,I omit the mustard seeds. But I add a handful of coriander leaves. That's all. It is an amazing chutney for idli, dosa, upma, curd rice,Plain paratha. You can keep it in a glass bottle in the fridge,for almost 4 to 5 days

Bro you should let your chutney come to room temperature before grinding , your mixie's dhakkan will open up due to the pressure , hum hasenge aur aapko krni padegi safai

U can add dadka with mustard and karileaves for more flavour
One suggestion do nt grind hot .. Mixture jar will be blast n come out.. Better to cool down n then ur grinder to grind... N yaa use more curry leaves as it will give u south taste..

Yes even i was about to write the same..... Very first time when I was trying to make such chutney on my own (before seen this video) I tried to grind the very hot one... In fact the mixie got jammed after a minute.... Do not do that mistake ever... Not only this chutney... Any similar chutneys not directly from pan..... 😁

He left the upper lid of the jar cover open. So that steam can escape. Moreover u can pulse the grinder for 2 sec that also helps

I made it and it came out to be amazing. I'll just suggest that you should probably put less mustard seeds then mentioned.
Super.....same as like tamilnadu style.....but instead of big onion we use small onion

Am sure you meant mushy and mashy. Always grind when it cools down. This chutney can served with dosas, idli, plain/ghee rice or any fritters.
