Onewheel Pint vs XR: Which one should you buy?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

At Electroheads, we love the Onewheel so much that we recently decided to add a second one - the smaller Pint model - to our collection of e-rides.
After spending some time with it, we were surprised to learn that the differences between the Pint and its big brother - the XR - go far beyond what is listed on the spec sheet.
In this video, Jack and Rich discuss the key differences between the two models to help you figure out which Onewheel is right for you.

Hey folks, small correction needed: The prices shown at 1:01 aren't quite right. XR is more like £1,700 in the UK, Pint £1,000. Sorry for this - the person responsible has been forced to climb a large flight of stairs while carrying the XR with no mag handle. Hope you enjoyed the Video! 🤙

I was on the fence between a Pint and an XR so here’s what lead to me choosing the Pint: 1. I don’t plan on doing a ton of trail riding, mostly just streets and city riding. 2. For the price difference and range seemingly being the major benefit to the XR, I bought the hypercharger (50 min for full charge). So I’ll likely get around 10 miles per charge and waiting 50 minutes for an additional charge is well worth saving the extra $1000. 3. The tech and aesthetic of the Pint is newer and more appealing to me than the XR. Many have commented that the XR looks like a DIY board that you made in your garage. The Pint looks like a polished consumer product. 4. The smaller size/weight seems more feasible to lug around on trips or to wherever. The XR is a tank. Along these same lines, the agility and maneuverability of the Pint seems more appealing for my needs.

Nice dual review video. New subscriber here! After extensive research and watching videos on Onewheel reviews from current owners, I decided to go big and ordered the Onewheel Plus XR today. Range was the main reason for my decision, but also bcuz of it's more rugged appeal, as I intend to use it for city riding as well as dirt trail riding. Float on guys!

I picked up a Pint on a jet trip here recently, and here's my take on the two: 1. The Pint is much shorter and is more agile because of its skinnier wheel. It's much easier to turn it much tighter than the XR I've ridden, but it is a bit squirrely at higher speeds, and you can definitely feel the board moving and yawing around under your feet when road riding. It's also a little bit slower and I seem to top out at around 15 miles an hour before it starts slowing me back down. The board feels most comfortable at about 10-13 miles per hour, as the yawing feels more muted and less disconcerting when you first start riding it. That all goes away once you learn to let the board do its thing, and in doing so you do overcome a lot of the issues inherent with the smaller tire as well. 2. The price point is much more accessible on the Pint and was the primary reason I picked mine up over the XR. Availability also seems to be better since many people go for the XR. 3. The XR seems to be more intended for cruising and distance riding rather than going out and riding around just for fun. It feels a lot more solid in all axis and it definitely rides smoother thanks to the larger diameter tire. It's an easier first-time experience and feels like it allows the rider to be a bit more assertive on the board without losing control. The former was a bit weird when I picked up my pint The deck is also longer, which allows your feet to be further spread and allows you to be a bit more stable. 4. The shorter deck length on the Pint fits better in the baggage compartment of the jet I fly so that packability will likely be more attractive to people who intend to not just ride it everywhere they go. Despite being unheated and unpressurized, both boards handle the temperature and pressure change cycles well, though the low temperatures mean the batteries get cold-soaked and need to warm up before being used. That said, anything you stick in the back of the airplane gets very cold over the course of the flight, and that's just a fact of life. 5. Some notes on riding around with someone who has an XR on a pint. Both boards do quite well together, and if you're street riding there are few places an XR can lead you that a Pint can't go with a little bit of thought. Rough sidewalks or streets are pretty easily navigable on either board. The XR's slight speed advantage doesn't mean as much as one would expect. Unless you're going down a hill, you won't have much trouble keeping up. The biggest issue will always be traffic or other obstructions, so expect to end up waiting on someone regardless of what you're riding.

If you think you'll love to ride just for the sake of riding, and not just as a "last mile" solution, get the XR and an aftermarket tire such as the Hoosier 11600D30a, which allows it to carve more like the pint. I ride primarily around my neighborhood on concrete and asphalt, never got into board sports as a kid, and outgrew my pint in just 250 miles. It's all about SAFE, USABLE range, and a comfortable speed that won't nosedive as easily at less than 15mph. At 5 miles/40% battery on the pint you'd better be very careful going up hills at any speed, especially if you're a bigger (200lbs. +) person, or it can easily nosedive on you. If you love to ride, you'll outgrow that 5 mile/40%/14.5 mph potential nosedive threshold quickly. XR allows you to ride until YOUR BODY needs to be recharged, instead of leaving you wanting more with a drained pint under your feet.

Hey! Rich here. I find 15mph a very comfortable speed on the Pint, though it's worth mentioning that if you stay at that speed, in the same stance, for a long while, your legs will get tired. It's not like an electric scooter there you can shuffle your feet around. You find yourself needing to slow down sometimes just so you can shift balance.

To be honest - yes it's harder. You can stand on a skateboard and it stays stationary. i think something that you guys are missing here is the way each board feels. I have a pint and rode the crap out of it for about a month before buying an XR. Having used the XR for a while now i can say that it just feels a ton better then the pint and id go as far as saying i feel unsafe riding the pint. The XR just feels more grounded, stable, not wobbly and just a ton more relaxed as opposed to the Pint which i feel like im gonna flip off any second.

People have been getting 12-14 miles on the Pint so it’s how you ride it. Seems like this guy should know this by now. XR is a Hummer Pint is a sports car that can go off road but not as good as the XR. XR is bulky and doesn’t turn or carve as good as the Pint seeing the XR has a flat wheel Pint has round wheel but you can put a round wheel on XR but it still won’t turn as good with a bigger tire. XR will feel more safe being the size of tire and foot pads.Eventually after enough riding both boards will feel like an extension of your body.Hummer or sports car with some rally in it ??

Have you guys ever been stopped by the police riding your OW's? I really want to get one, but it's my understanding that it's illegal to ride them on public roads, paths and spaces. The only place you can use them is on private land...and that kinda defeats the point unless you're loaded with acres to cruise around on-and even then it's far from ideal. I've been toying with just risking it for a biscuit, but the fines are pretty hefty + 6pts on your driving license. Sucks that UK law doesn't support green travel like this.

You'll see in our latest video (going online later today) that we rode past two police cars without them blinking an eye! We've always had more hassle on scooters than on electric skateboards or Onewheels, it seems like police don't quite understand what they are. Security guards on the other hand - who see skateboarders as their sworn enemies - look at Onewheels and turn into raging bulls.
