OnePlus Open Durability Test - You guessed wrong...

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today we are durability testing the OnePlus Open. Grab some GOVEE Christmas lights on Amazon HERE: bit.ly/3RidGr3 or on their website bit.ly/3sVQ5TO They have SO MANY LIGHTS. And huge thanks to Govee for sponsoring this video. The OnePlus open has caught the eye of many - but is the OnePlus Open as durable as the Samsung Galaxy Fold? Or will it snap in half like the Google Pixel? There is only one way to find out - and that's with a JerryRigEverything durability test!

    Watched this video on my oneplus open. And I'm really glad it survives your torture tests. I normally check your video to make sure a phone is atleast durable enough to survive some light bending, but I couldnt wait any longer with the Open since I wanted the early discount. So I watched every other video that exists on youtube and they all said it was durable, so I took a leap of faith with this one. I've had it since release now and I'm really happy with it. I've been looking at foldables for a while now because I'm kind of a tech geek. But the Pixel fold is too wide for me and the samsungs are too narrow, so you'll always have to fold it open to properly use it. With the OnePlus I can just use it as a normal phone when I'm answering texts in public etc. But can fold it open when I'm watching youtube, gaming, multitasking, working or just want to look at a picture without zooming in. The free case is also pretty good, the paid case is still sold out though. So I cant replace it yet.

  • @marufbepary100

    @marufbepary100

    It will take longer just because most phones, even without an IP rating have some sort of water resistance. If I remember correctly, the OnePlus Nord for example had all the features to achieve IP68 but OnePlus didn't certify it because it would take more money. But then the same phone from a carrier had the IP rating.

  • @BrysonCreighton

    @BrysonCreighton

    6 ай бұрын

    @@PhilAndOrThere's some assumptions here that don't add up. For one regardless of an IP rating most companies will not cover your water damaged phone under warranty. The question of does your device have water damage when doing a warrant replacement exists for a reason. Those T&C's aren't there for the consumer. Many phones go through extensive testing, the difference is whether an outside entity that gives IP ratings is involved in the test process or not. OnePlus has actually tested this phone under many water conditions that would surpass the IPX4 rating it has. To others point here in the comments, the water proofing rating is a little over blown. Personally I don't care what the rating is, I'm still using a waterproof case when planning water activities to avoid any unnecessary situations. We are talking about $1k -$2k devices here. Not worth the accident or the accidental failure of that IP rating.

    @@marufbepary100even if a phone doesn't have any water resistance and water gets right onto the circuit boards, the phone will typically not fail immediately. Love your videos You should include some kind of drop testing in your videos.... Especially for the folding phones. I get that coming up with a truly "fair" drop test would be hard, but it's the main way how phones break these days and it would be nice to know which are a little more rugged. Plus your testing this might force the manufacturers to build stronger phones, even if it means adding a little extra metal and thickness

  • @markl6495

    Agreed I'm still surprised how much damage they can take. Obviously you buy foldables knowing they have to be more fragile than a chocolate bar phone, having moving parts etc. Well you'd assume so, a perfect example look at his RAZR 40 Ultra test and then watch the most recent iPhone test on the titanium (lol) most expensive one. Not surprised why they " decided " not to have a foldable of their own anytime soon. 🫣

    iPhones are rated to 32 degrees, same as samsungs flagships. Unless those numbers are fudged it would likely outlast your current phone in the extreme cold. Folding phones have been ready. I love my Oneplus 11 16GB. Got it on sale for $650. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 16GB LPDDR5x and UFS 4.O. If you want it, just note the 8GB model with the same name and no different model designation comes with last Gen UFS 3.1 (half speed) and non-X ram (not really a big difference). The 16GB of RAM makes a pretty decent difference on Android 14 since I don't have to use storage for fake RAM. I'm using 12GB of ram right now and I've totally disabled the fake storage RAM. Everything is lightning quick. The only thing my friends are turned off by it is that it's a Chinese company. I for one have trust in Oneplus due to their long history in the USA although this is my first phone. Deep in the settings you can find that they do collect information (most phones do) and you can disable it. The negative is that the wording for the feature is very manipulative like you're going to lose features if you disable it. You don't. Just turn it off.

    I was really hoping that when Oneplus did a folding phone, we'd finally have two (actually one, with Microsoft killing the Surface Duo) options for actual dual screen phones for us people who just want that. Giant folding screens freak me out from a durability perspective even when they perform well, and would rather not pay extra for something probably less durable.

    @@kingzach74 Your talking about dual-screen smartphones, they were a thing in the 2016-2018 era of smartphones, like for example the LG v60 thinq dual-screen phone. But turns out they didn't sell well. I didn't even know these phones existed until this year, so my guess is they just weren't advertised well. I explored the idea a bit with a flip phone style version of this on my channel but I don't think companies are willing to take these kinds of risks anymore. Gone are the days of LG innovations like the LG Wing

Probably my favorite phone I've ever had unless you count my Droid Turbo from 2014. That was my first phone with an OLED screen and you better believe it I spent hours looking at the Always on Display in pitch black seeing numbers float in the dark or finding videos and photos that took advantage of pure black. The ballistic nylon back was awesome too. Edit: Wow snapdragon 805! 5.2" Quad HD display, 3GB of RAM. It came with Android 4 and a 3900mah battery, which was absolutely massive at the time.

    I think this phone really is kind of a judgement against Samsung. Samsung introduced the folding phone to America and is on its 5th edition and still has the narrow screen that many have been complaining about, still is heavy and the crease in the middle of the screen is more prevalent. Samsung became complacent and lazy refusing to acknowledge that other companies are seeking dominance.

  • @dariodelvoije

    @dariodelvoije

    Yeah I think you are right. I've been interested in folding phones for a while now, in terms of specs nothing is good compared to the Samsung fold. But the narrow screen just makes no sense to me and the crease is clearly visible on the big screen. I think OnePlus/Oppo nailed it with this design. The phone is light weight for a foldable, the outside screensize is perfect and the crease is only visible when the screen is turned off or completely white (like a pdf file) and you hold it at a weird angle. If you look at it normally you can barely see it. I almost bend my phone the wrong way one time because I forgot I turned it sideways to watch a video a bit bigger and the crease wasnt visible. I'm really curious what they can do in the next few years of development. And what they will do, will they settle like Samsung or will they make this design even better

    I wouldn't mind a foldable phone if they just made the inside 2 separate screens. I really don't get the hype of having the screen itself flex, I'm sure with todays technology you could make the bezel nonexistant so you would just barely see the gap between the 2 screens when it's open.
