    I'm about to do the same I went to the pixel 8pro from the OnePlus 10t because I wanted that AI experience my son was getting on the pixel 7.. but boy do I regret it!.. the difference in battery life and charging speed is painful.. at 30 Watts the pixel 8pro charges at the same speed as the OP 7 pro I had in 2019 also drains even faster and gets hotter than that old Oneplus model .. yeah I'm definitely going to the 12r.. imo the $300 more doesn't justify getting basically a slightly better camera(see comparison vid) and wireless charging which I don't care much about anyway.. the AI on the pixel is great but everything else is horrible..

    Indeed, a very informative video. In my opinion, it wouldn't really matter whether you made the comparison with the pixel 8 or the pixel 8 pro in opposition to the 12R. I consider both pixel devices to be mid-range. Truthfully, the tensor chip sets are still a work in progress. As far as updates are concerned, I don't truly believe that anyone's going to use a device for 7 years. Furthermore, the OnePlus 12R will receive 3 years of OS updates with four years of security patches. That's enough for any device at this price range and in this category.

    @@Kendawg-zx9clI don't understand people like you then why don't you just sell or trade in your pixel 8 for something else. What's the purpose of having a multiple phones if you ain't going to use them? especially if you got a pixel 8 lying around that's stupid. I use all my phones. I have a oneplus 9 5G. I have the Samsung S23 Ultra and i have the regular Samsung S23 and i use all three of them in some sort of way. I don't just let one of them just sit around and collect dust that's dumb. I even use my older phones for certain things my Samsung A51 5G my Motorola one 5G Ace and my old OnePlus 6T.

    Performance is for the 12r no doubt. But it has a dedicated 2MP macro lens in 2024... That alone is a reason for me not to buy it.

    I would say the 12R, but OnePlus isn't as available to work on all carriers in the US from what I've seen, so it immediately is a no go for me if it's won't work as a phone. Which is a real shame, because I absolutely love the 12 and 12R because the Oxygen OS animations look insanely smooth and everything else is flagship level.

    It’s funny, you say that Oneplus R is brighter, but when you show them on the screen that pixel eight is looking brighter. The 12 r is definitely the better buy in every way unless cameras and maybe AI features are the most important to you.

    I have the 7T right now, and I love it! But unfortunately it's time to upgrade. I'm sure that the 12R is a great phone, BUT, the Pixel 8 now has "7" years of OS upgrades, and the 12R only has 4. I'm really stuck, because both phones are good, but at the end of the day, do the 7 years worth of updates dominate?

  • @Derpykin

    @Derpykin

    Ask yourself, when was the last time you had a phone for 7 years? even the 7t you have right now only came out in september 2019 - 5 years ago I myself have a 8t which i am soon buying a 12R to replace which again, came out in 2020 (granted my choice to get a replacement was partially fueled by the cracked screen and low battery life due to heavy usage on my part) way i see it, the average lifespan for a modern smartphone realistically is 3-5 years, not 7. So using security and OS updates as the sole reason to select a phone doesn't make sense to me thats my input though - i would say price to price, the extra battery and performance would benefit more. However case and screen protectors are harder to find for the 12r so its one of those "6 of one, half a dozen of the other" situations I'm aware i could buy a replacement battery and screen, but it would cost about half as much to get them shipped and fitted, as buying the 12R anyway

    12R only has 3 years of software updates which for me is a serious shortcoming since I typically upgrade every 4 years. As a 7T owner as well, OnePlus has seriously disappointed me with their OS updates, with the last update being particularly buggy.

    @@garyschwab435 on the other hand, the hardware (aside from the camera) on the 12R wipes the floor with the Pixel. I'm having the exact same choice paralysis as you! Personally, I can get the 12R almost $200 cheaper than the Pixel, so I might just go oneplus again.

    only thing is most people will get the pixel on contract for less than paying for the OnePlus. So if you're on contract the pixel will save you money and obviously comes with better support if there are issues with your phone at any point. So you get double the updates from Google and better peace of mind for less money out of pocket. The pixel 8 is $12 a month on T-Mobile that's $300 over 2 years vs paying $4-500 and getting faster charging with fewer updates and having to support yourself if you have issues at any point.
