One Year With a Honda Grom | Owner's Review

Фильм және анимация

If you're thinking about buying a Honda Grom (MSX125), then this is the review that you have to watch! I will go over everything you need to know about this little bike in the ONE year that I have owned it!
I'm a big fan of long-term and real world reviews over first impressions. The Honda Grom is a bike that's easy to fall in love with after watching KZreadr's like Fooligan and his epic wheelies. But how is owning the Grom after spending the money and going past the honey moon phase? I give you guy's a complete owners review, in-depth walkaround, and riding experience with my 2015 Grom. I talk about modifications for the bike as well as show you the stock features of the bike that it comes with new. I also talk about the top speed, reliability, maintenance costs, and insurance/payments, etc.
Buying a Honda Grom isn't what I would consider cheap. So how does it make for a good first motorcycle? I give you guys my thoughts about dropping the money on a new Grom and whether it MAY or MAY NOT be the right bike for you. The Grom makes for a great stunt bike, mini-track bike, or just an all around commuter. The gas mileage (MPG) is ridiculously good. It may be a goofy looking pit bike on steroids, but with the right mods, it can look awesome!

You can still scrape the paintwork... and if a bouncing stone can make a dent to a car door, I should think Grom would... Yes, it is a small bike but it's not a toy, no matter how much you would like to think so. It's simply a city bike, where even 600 cc engine would be an overkill: I can keep up with a 1000 cc bike with my Grom during rush hour traffic and spend a fraction of the money for gas! Better still, I can squeeze through narrower gaps at traffic lights with my little bike (it's almost as narrow as a bicycle) to get near the front and leave you standing at the back of a 100 yard queue. In my town lanes are not particularly wide and cars may well drive between two lanes so lane splitting does not get you far. The average speed is about 20mph an hour on a quiet day: I have never been able to test how fast the bike can go - so riding anything much over 125cc bike is just stupid.

Pass many 18 wheelers on it? Sometimes it can be difficult to see a "normal" size bike beside my rig..... let's take that......AND, shrink it👍. However, on the other side of the coin....it looks fun, something to kill some time on👍

Great review. Really the point everyone has to understand is what is the purpose of buying a low cc bike. I got my 2017 grom brand new, a few months ago and I absolutely love it. I've not owned a bike before I bought my grom but I've experience riding 600cc sport bikes and 1200cc cruisers. And to be honest I was not looking for power, I was looking for something to get my mind off work and life in general. Many people told to get at least a 500-600 cc bike and that I would be bored fast with 125ccs. But I haven't got bored with it. I love the fact that I take it anywhere and not get in trouble with the cops lol. Groms are fun when you really love it and understand it is not all about power in a tiny bike.

Hi mate - just wondering whether you got a Grom in the end? Am looking to get into biking and have considered everything from Suzuki’s TU250x via a selection of Royal Enfields and my dream bike of a Gen2 Hayabusa…but in reality living in the city I have no need for high speed machines especially with all the speed cameras, and as for track days I’ve seen folks take this around as well as race them - so just thinking how you got on. It’ll be the only bike I ever own, dont plan on buying and selling - getting too old for all that stuff, as will be the need for speed…am at that age where I now enjoy the original 60s Mini than a modern Hypercar if that makes sense lol

Finally a good review of ANYTHING! Everyone talks about the features of the bike, and the overall fun they have, but no one ever goes into detail like insurance, maintenance, reliability, as well as controls for those who don't know how to ride a bike. $6 a month is like a fucking Spotify Premium subscription, and I know it'll vary depending on the person, especially for new riders, but at least people can have a tiny bit of what to expect for insurance cost... I pretty much wanted a Grom just to thrash around without worrying about destroying a bike, or not being able to recover/pick it up fairly easy.

LMAO trust me, going from a 1970 Chevy K20 and driving 60 miles total for a daily work drive (To and from added up), you do save enough money that makes the grom's gas mileage amazing. Imagine spending about $40 every two days on gas, versus $2 a week. Big difference. I work 4 days a week, so a total of $80 a week in my K20.

I personally feel that a 650cc bike as a first bike is a death sentence for most folks. I learned to ride, mopeds as a kid, then 50cc Honda's, 80cc, 125, 250, then jumped to 750cc when I had plenty of experience. I feel this would make a great first bike for anyone under 200lb and under 6ft tall. Good review though, thx for sharing. Peace.

Maybe a death sentence if they have no training and immediately try to start riding in areas acting like they are experienced. However, that would go for anything on the street, regardless of the cc. With proper training classes and discipline though a 650 class (such as FZ-07) is a great beginners bike. It’s what I started on.

Added a extra battery to go further off road ( live in North West Arizona , lots of dirt only a few miles from town ) up to at least 80 miles and no insurance can use bike paths and so quite can sneak up on wild life. In UK you cannot drive a bigger bike than 125cc even after you have passed a test; for people under 19 (I think) there is a category A2 driving test that limits you to drive bikes up to 500 cc and only "proper adults" are allowed to drive 600cc + bikes after passing category A test... So the power of Grom is maximum you can drive anyway before taking a test, regardless how old you are. I still wouldn't get Grom as a first bike simply because the transition to proper sized bikes may feel daunting and take time to adjust. Even jumping from 125cc semi-automatic Suzuki Viva (in Asia: lower seat and feels more like a bicycle) to more modern Suzuki 250cc feels a little bit of a jump. Having said that, I will buy either Honda Grom or Kawasaki Z 125cc because I never got round taking a test and here in Cambodia it's the biggest bike I can drive without a licence - those two bikes are the only options of fully manual bikes for a reason. Congestion is a big problem in many cities and gear change every couple of minutes, sometimes in less than a minute is a pain when you have to have your wits about: bikes and sometimes even cars can literally come from all directions (including against the traffic on the wrong side of the road) and following traffic laws and stopping at traffic lights is optional. Grom seems like a perfect bike for a city, especially if you are short like me.... But I still beat motorbikes to the front of the queue most of the time because I can squeeze through narrow gaps with my bicycle that any any other bike. Of course the motorbikes will soon drive past me but I will catch them again at the next traffic lights.
