ONE YEAR OLD DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES | Research-Based 12 Month Development Checklist & Examples

It's hard to believe you already have a one year old, and yet here we are! In this video, I am going to walk you through all of the research-based developmental milestones that you should be looking for in your one year old baby. Specific domains of learning include communication skills, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, personal-social skills, and problem solving skills. I even will share with you exactly what is appropriate for a one year old and what may warrant a discussion with your child's health care provider. I hope this video is helpful for you and I encourage you to check out all of the other videos in this series if you have a growing child! I also wanted to mention for the sake of transparency that Mina was just newly 14 months in this video. I don't ever want to misrepresent the abilities of children.

My son will be 12 months on December 3rd… he currently only still says mama sometimes. Thats it. He screams and screeches A LOT. Especially when he is frustrated or needs something. Hmmm 🤔🤔 he can sometimes do peekabo, and if i lay down his pjs, he can crawl to them without asking as if he understands he needs to get dressed. He can wave byebye when asked, most of the time.

My munchkin is needy, has a sense of humor, & likes to be dramatic. When I don't make her my hip in the kitchen, she's developed a routine of pulling my pants down. & I just look down at her little innocent looking self, looking right back up at me & I'm just like ohhh u upped me up 1. U think u're big & bad? sigh. Then I act dramatic about it

I've been following along with these as my daughter grows and they make me feel so much better. She just turned one and I just always worry. She is behind in gross motor and in early intervention but its always good to double and triple check on everything else. I would imagine though that the therapist from early intervention wouldd say something if she found anything else concerning other than what we are working on.

I think her baby just turned 13 months when this video was taken and all babies are different when it comes to talking! my son is 14 months and says about 13 words. When you’re doing this you wanna go from the day he turns 1 till the day before he turns 13 months! When my son turned 11 months he was only saying 3-4 words just before he turned a year he was talking up a storm with his 13 words! A baby can learn a lot in a month!

13 months if she does a video for a certain months milestones she will record it after that month has passed because a child at the beginning of 10 months might not know as much compared to the end of 10 months

I know a lot of ppl (including myself) who would have not passed these tests back in the day, and still it seems all of them do just fine in all these sections, so i kinda think this is a bit exaggerated. In my opinion, some of them dont even make sense (for example, how would the toddler know a nursery gane if u ve never showed him or her one? ) it seems to me that there s a confusion between “many kids do this at one year old (because their parents showed them certain games/words/actions/etc) and “your one year old toddler SHOULD do this”. Why should s/he? Says who? Based on what studies? Do we have some clear evidence / studies here or is this just “common knowledge”?

I can see your confusion; however, I believe the nursery game question relies on having taught it previously, but asking the child to perform without you first initiating it or modeling it for them at this point. At least, that's how I perceived it.

The nursery game would have been previously taught and familiar to the child. After that fact the developmental milestone .....is them remembering and demonstrating actions from that nursery rhyme without you telling or prompting them to. Her example was playing peek a boo. Imagine u play this game often with ur child....they know the action thar goes with that game....one day while not playing peak a boo they just do the action or say the phrase by themselves . That would be considered a skill

At a year old it is recommended to do these things. No studies needed if you want a smart child you want them to succeed in every aspect you wouldn’t want your child going to school and being behind on everything just because you didn’t think it was necessary. If anything I think the expectation of a 1 year old are too low. They’re asking the same questions since 6 months a baby should be well past some of these milestones. So to answer your question it’s common knowledge!
