17 MONTH OLD DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES | Research-Based Milestones for Your Toddler

We're back again with another developmental milestone video. This time, we are looking at 17-month old developmental milestones and activities. In this video, I cover major developmental milestones and activities you should be looking for in your toddler. I use the Ages and Stages Questionnaire to measure my own daughter's development, as do many hospitals, doctor's offices, and state programs! I hope this is helpful for you in measuring your own child's development!

My boy just made 17 months likes finding trash and putting it in the can. He says TASH! He also knows the shape star and the colors blue and purple. He is getting more interested in spoons and forks and likes to wipe his face after :D This is great because he wipes his own nose if he has a cold haha Also he just started brushing his hair, tatas his teletubbies, and gallops his horse.

I love your vídeos just wanted to add a few more things. For resolving a problem a child can use an adult to get help and accomplish what she/he wants to do. The adult should ask, how can I help you? Allowing the child to point or express her/his idea.

How cool! I was curious what other parents have experienced with their lo at 17month! My family is planning our first big international trip and this is an exciting preview!

I love these videos but they always make me feel bad because my lo isn't doing any of the verbal or personal social milestones, she's great with fine and gross motor skills.

Make sure you score it! I was always worried too but the cutoff scores mean that not doing some things is OKAY! Don’t feel bad. Every child is different and anecdotally I find some kind of focus toward communication or gross motor in bursts.

I love your channel over ALL others... can you link products like the funiture behind you, organization ideas and products both qaulity and budget freindly dupes and please can u make some Skills play videos with links. Maybe connection and comforting tantrums.. the way you explain and dont use the dramatic busy flashy stuff other channels do.

You’re so sweet and thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I can definitely link my own organization materials, which are all budget friendly! I also hope to do many activity based play videos with my toddler once my younger one is sleeping through the night again. 😂 The four month regression is brutal! I really appreciate you watching and your kind comments. My goal is to educate and empower and I’m so happy you are finding that here!

My sweet girl just turned 17 months on the 21st and I'm in tears almost every day. She refuses to walk by herself and needs support walking . I encourage her different ways, but she refuses. And she hasn't talked yet. She babbles a lot though. She likes to play alone and hates when I try to play with her. She doesn't make eye contact with me most of the time and doesn't respond to her name 99 percent of the time. She doesn't point at what she wants and hardly points at all.I'm a first time mom and I get so discouraged. Any suggestions??

I’m so sorry you’re having a hard time! Especially as a first time mom, it’s hard to know what’s “normal.” Walking is such a large window, so don’t be discouraged yet! I would definitely bring up your concerns at your 18 month appointment and see if your pediatrician believes you need a referral! You are being proactive so you are clearly a great parent who cares about their daughter!

My little one had been doing PT since he’s 10 months old and he only walked with 17 months old after getting braces (orthotics). But he literally walked the third day after starting wearing those. He really needed extra support. I hope you find what she needs 🌻

These are possible signs of autism, which is not a bad thing, just something that needs adaptation! I would go to her pediatrician and get an evaluation. Much love to you and your little one.

Did you get a diagnosis? The walking thing itself doesn't sound troublesome as she has time, but combined with the other things you posted sounds very much like autism spectrum. How is she doing today?

Building is great! Celebrate his strengths and work on areas where you can. If you need, talk to your pediatrician about interventions. They help a lot!

I’ve noticed that so many parents do not ask their child to say please or thank you. They just stuff food in their mouth, hand them things and you can hear the child just grunting. 😕
