One Year into War, Sudan Wracked by World’s Largest Displacement and Hunger Crises

Support our work: www.democracynow.org/donate?c...
One year ago this week, a devastating conflict erupted in Sudan when a fragile alliance between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces collapsed. The war initially began around the capital city of Khartoum but quickly spread to other parts of Sudan, including Darfur, Port Sudan and the Gezira state, situated in the country’s agricultural heartland. One year on, the conflict has driven nearly 9 million people from their homes, collapsed the country’s health system and created the world’s largest hunger and displacement crisis. “This is essentially a war between two generals,” says Khalid Mustafa Medani, chair of the African studies program at McGill University, who explains why the warring parties have “absolutely no legitimacy in civil society” and how the fighting is weaponizing international aid. “Despite the severity of this conflict, there is only one solution and only one interest on the part of the majority of Sudanese - 99% of Sudanese - and that is the restoration of full civilian democracy.”

Thank you for speaking about Sudan, I didn't understand it very well and I've seen so little about it. I hope you can explain to us about Congo, Tigray and other countries who are suffering violence too. It's devastating to know civilians, mostly women and children always pay for other people's ambitions.

A disturbing trend is how this war is conducted. Starving children…destroying hospitals…the fact that it’s based on greed. All of it is so unnecessary. Breaks my heart. 💔 this has to end. We have to acknowledge that based on the attention paid to suffering, especially proportionally, black lives seem still not to matter. It's not about that.... it's what you want it to be... No one support RSF and many don't support National Army either... however national army is the official army..RSF is just non Sudanese mercenaries who just want to steal and Sudanese understand seem to be aware of that even amid conflicts... It's not civil war....it's what RSF trys to promote.. However, RSF is killing and raping even the people they claim to " support" so it's only a lie and joke that didn't work because they failed even the propaganda war. Now the ideal solution is civilians government but both military want power unfortunately only political solutions will work... Because military especially Al-Burhan can't lead..and Dagalo is just a criminal mercenary who was forced to act civil but he couldn't...so Al-Burhan is the best of the worst if civilians can't lead.
