One Year Fistula Free

Hello! I had kshar sutra treatment one year ago, and I am just making an update video to let you know how I feel after one year of being fistula free, and to let you know that is still the case! This is in no way intended as medical advice. I am sharing my story in hopes that it can help others who have fistulas find suitable treatment sooner so they can get on with their lives, and hopefully to offer some kind of hope or support to people with fistulas...I had one for 7 years and still got better! I am always happy to hear your stories and comments. Thanks for watching. I wish you all the best and if you have a fistula right now, I hope you are fistula free soon! You can see my video "Tips for Living With a Fistula" if you currently have one and would like to know how I managed it in daily life while it was still there. You may also want to check out my "Kshar Sutra in India" playlist if you are considering kshar sutra. I made a series of videos while I was there to let others know what it was like and how it went. The Facebook group I mentioned is called "Kshar Sutra for Fistulas" and it is filled with great people who are either considering kshar sutra or who already had it, so that is also a great resource, for those who are considering, and it includes both people who live in India and who have traveled there for treatment. No matter how you deal with it, if you have a fistula, I hope it's healed up soon.

    Hi Guys! I just wanted to let you know, it's been 2 years now as of April 11, and I am still fistula free. Now, it is seeming like more of a distant memory, which is a great feeling. I am still grateful always for being healed of the fistula, and besides scarring do not have issues as a result. Good luck to all of you, and if you have a fistula, I hope you are recovered soon. ❤

I also have fistula for about 3 years now and it's the same issue here in my country. Many people went under an operation and had recurrence after a few months. I joined a facebook group who suffers from fistula and their experiences and it is really sad knowing that their still suffering from this condition. Glad to hear you're free of fistula finally, as someone struggling from fistula myself for almost a year now. The pain is unbearable and it has definitely impacted my life negatively. Isn't kshar sutra technically the same as cutting seton? especially if one has intersphinteric fistula where lot of muscles involved, wouldn't kshar sutra have high risk of incontinence coz the thread is cutting through the muscles? not sure if muscle heals back to normal. Thank you for your information.

  • @HackYourHealth

    @HackYourHealth

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Ermias hopefully your problem is resolved and I just saw this comment now....but no, those are not the same. The cutting Seton is not medicated. The kshar sutra string is a soft cotton string with many coats of Ayurvedic medicines, which clear infection, cauterize the wound, and heal, as well as encouraging the body to expell the string without force. Since it heals cleanly, moves at its own pace, and most importantly clears the infection from the inside, the chance of recurrence is extremely low and the muscle heals properly. A cutting Seton is from my understanding a piece of plastic moved through by force, with none of these medicinal properties. Since any tiny bit of infection left is likely to cause recurrence the success rates are not at all similar, and without the healing medicines and gentle approach the incontinence rate is also much higher. Though at first glance they do seem similar there are very important differences between the 2.

  • @HackYourHealth

    @HackYourHealth

    Жыл бұрын

    The muscle with kshar sutra has a line of scar tissue after kshar sutra but since the string moves slowly and has these properties delivered from the inside of the tract, it is safe for complex (like mine and many others that end up desperate enough to spend their life savings on treatment in India lol) as long as your doctor is well trained and cautious in their approach:) it helps that Ayurvedic doctors receive different training which respects the patient and does not behave recklessly with their health, at least that has been my experience (won't take chances, rush, etc like we are used to in Western medicine). I think you need to experience it to understand the difference but the treatments, and the approach really are different :)

    Hi Erica, I know this video you posted is old but I hope you see this comment. I found your page by chance. I am getting surgery in Toronto - Michael Garron Hospital on April 24, 2024, for a fistula. I waited for over 6 months to see a colorectal specialist and when I did see him, he checked me out and determined I have a fistula with a dead-end (meaning not a regular fistula with 2 exits.) My surgery will entail a seton. I did not know the seton stays in there. Does the seton ever come out or is it permanently there? My Dr. did not explain this well and I am now worried. Any help, or advise you can give would be greatly appreciated! Alex

    Hi Alex, I'm sorry to hear this. My experience was that the seton was indefinite and it was not clearly explained to me either, sadly.... I'd definitely recommend clarifying and getting to understand what they are planning for you. I feel it's much better to know what you are "consenting" to before it is too late to make a decision... Hopefully they have a good plan to get you healed! ❤

I'm not sure how deep it was, but Dr. Ramesh Bhat who I went to is highly experienced and has treated incredibly complex and difficult cases, so I'd recommend him if your case is challenging. He also won't treat anyone if he doesn't think it will help them, so if you'd like an expert opinion I'd recommend his :) The ultrasound tech he uses is also one of the best and he has found tracks others missed etc, so if you need good imaging I'd trust him. Hi De Flor, I'm sorry to hear you are going through that, and I really hope your surgery is successful. I only had one real surgery (besides draining) in Canada, and it was to put in setons. I was never eligible for any other surgeries because of being diagnosed with Crohn's disease, and I also had to wait 2 years for the first surgery so wasn't very hopeful about my chances of being treated here. I went to India because I felt it was a safer treatment with a higher chance of working, but also because it was my only option to close the fistula. Every fistula and circumstance is different. I really hope you get good treatment here. If not, at least there is hope to get adequate treatment in India :) Quite a few Canadians go.

    If you can, I would recommend having more than that, since it did not allow for any extra such as sightseeing, classes or activities there, travel outside Bangalore, required cooking most meals at home and staying in shared apartment etc... which is ok, but it would have been more enjoyable to have the option to do a few fun things while there :) However I was tired of waiting and this was three years of savings for me at that point and I know I was lucky to be able to make it happen at all. I don't know what your finances are obviously but this would be the least amount I'd recommend, unless you go to a free hospital there. Edit to add: of course, this is Canadian dollars!

    Sorry Ratan, I really don't know what to expect in your particular case, but if your doctor says it's fine I'd imagine it is true :) You can always get a second opinion from a different doctor if you feel it is needed. All the best to you and I hope you are fistula free soon!

    It was 5000 for me, but different fro patient to patient and other doctors will have other rates (or, if you are Indian, the cost if far less than foreigner)
