We are moving to SV, God willing, on the same date as my parents’ wedding anniversary. They were so happy in their new life together that we wanted to symbolically braid that into our new life. :) Happy moving anniversary to you guys! Always so nice to hear your stories and updates.

Thank you, and congrats on your decision! You want a fingerprint-based background check from the RCMP in Ottawa. It cannot be provincial. You'll also want to have this apostilled by an authorized official. Contact a notary for guidance on obtaining this. Be sure to bring the original documents, not copies, and that they are dated within 90 days of your residency application in El Salvador.

As a citizen, your husband won't have to clear any hurdles. You will be treated the same as any other foreigner, and will have to follow the same processes. The difference is that your process is shorter: Jessica and I won't be eligible to apply for citizenship until 2027, whereas you, as the spouse of a citizen, can apply after just 2 years in the country.

As foreign nationals we can't comment directly on local politics. We can say that we left Canada to escape authoritarianism and have no plans to return.
