    In the original TWO X-Men films, Wolverine is kind of that same jaded, cynical bastard type character, but when Rogue needed his help, he was willing to help her. He was a dick but had a heart of gold. After meeting the team, he kind of grew to appreciate them, but still liked being on his own. He was always that lone wolf type, but would help those who needed it. It's why he's such a great character-he was dark but not like "oh edgy dark" he was just deeply complex. But even with his pain and lone wolf type persona, he still helped people. He was someone to look up to in a sense. So what hurts in Logan, is him just outright REFUSING to help anyone-only even helping Xavier because he NEEDS to not because he WANTS to. God it's depressing.

    Just wanna add two elements: 1. Charles' first ramblings are garbled versions of inspirational speeches, the kind he would have given a thousand times before. Kinda cool imo. 2. The Taco Bell line and similar demonstrate that what messes with Xavier more than alzheimers is that, because of his coniditon, he can't keep out the thoughts of others, keep them seperate from his own. I think it's kind of a cool demonstration that what he recieves the most are these dumb, ultra-broadcasted slogans.

    *You know that this is a good video essay when it uses a pun in the title.* In all seriousness I absolutely agree with the points made in this video. On the one hand, this scene stands as a great dramatic exploration of how people react to being on the loosing end of life. On the other hand, it’s also a great continuation of the X-Men Universe as it explores the idea of how a bunch of surviving X-men, who already didn’t have a great standing in the society they were in before, now have to deal with being the even more powerless minority now.

    4:30 Actually, he'd proably get the same thing I do. It's called a "Grand Maul", and is essentially the MOST severe form of an "Epileptic Attack" that if left untreated CAN KILL someone. I'm lucky enough that I found working meds to prevent my seizures, but EVERY FEW YEARS something...JUST HAPPENS. Who know what. From personal experience: Your heart speeds up. You feel beat your chest and have to embrace yourself HOPING just HOPING you can comfort yourself. Then you CALL SOMEONE because while a "petite maul" or normal seizure could stay just that... IF IT GOES BIGGER you're gonna black out. And you're going to the hospital in a wagon. And make sure they stick a needle in on your trip to the Hospital so they can start hydration right away. I don't know why but it helps. As I kid it landed me in the hospital for days. As an adult, I'm just in the emergency room for a few hours BUT GOOD GRACIOUS DUE THE AFTERSHOCK REALLY GET ME. Can't talk. All shaken up. You're not yourself. You know your name but not who you are. Can't walk straight. Can listen to anyone despite hesring them (Can't grasp what's going on around you). Time either stands still ot moves to fast. The concept of what is real s forgotten because - and here's my least favorite part - YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE IN AN ENTIRELY SEPERATE UNIVERSE. NOTHING is right. So...YES. Unfortunately, I DO know have Professor X feels...

    I'd also like to point out how when Charles asks Logan "what did you do?" and Logan doesn't respond, Logan is intentionally allowing Charles to think of Logan as the bad guy, in order to save Charles from the trauma of knowing that HE killed the X-men, his students and friends, and instead die thinking he always helped them , but either Logan or someone else killed them and Charles did his best to save them. If only Charles could have died ignorant to the truth.

    Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, since I've not seen most of the X-Men films (or really watched any of them), but I don't think it's entirely accurate to say that _Days of Future Past_ made _The Last Stand_ non-canon. That would require it to *directly contradict* the events portrayed in the earlier film. As it is, it simply produces a separate continuity in which those events do not occur. To say it made _The Last Stand_ non-canon is to say that it made the original _X-Men_ and _X2_ non-canon as well as the two Wolverine movies, and I've played enough _Zelda_ and read enough _Homestuck_ to say that events that happened in a separate continuity are still canon.

  • @TheDragonslaya2000

    @TheDragonslaya2000

    true, its more accurate to say it cause a split in the timeline after X2, however since it also means that X3 (and The Wolverine unfortunately) are not canon to the new , post DOFP timeline.

    I still remember when I saw the trailer for Logan way back in 2016 when it came out. I had never seen an X-Men movie in it's entirety before, but the trailer, emotions and stories it told just gave me the incentive to. I saw all of them before it came out and even got into Johnny Cash. I loved it all. Even if you don't particularly like the X-Men movies, or at least some in particular, you can't deny this film and it's impact, it did so much without having to really on it all outright, and that's amazing. I was at a weird point in my life then too, High school was hard for me, I moved away from all my friends, and barely felt like I even knew who I was anymore, but this helped. I mean, I'm still set back, but it helped me in that time to just... Feel it, y'know? It's such a human film, like you said. It feels so real and authentic in everything it does, it's amazing. Even the soundtrack, it's amazing. Marco Beltrami does a phenomenal job, each track perfectly encapsulates all the feelings of the story. From the melancholy and sadness of the 'Main Titles theme', the absolute horror of 'X24' to the hesitant amazement of 'Up To Eden' like it's saying, "Wow, it's real, there really still is hope." My favourite (and one I most resonate with) might be 'Beyond the Hills'. It says so much, especially after coming right after ''Up To Eden' like it's Logan wondering if he's even worth the chance of making it to that new and hopeful place that he once ruled out, anxiously wandering, wondering(heh) if he can, or is allowed to continue in the state he's in and has been in for so long, physically and psychologically drained for so long. 'Don't Be What They Made You' is amazing too, but after Deadpool 2 I'm having a little trouble seeing it the same way, haha. Oh and 'Goodnight Moon' too, it's so peaceful, somber even, but still a little scary thinking of what's to come. If you can't already tell, yeahh I've listened to the soundtrack an unhealthy amount of times.

    The entire movie is insanely good, it's literally a life-changer for me. I went into that movie depressed as hell, in my first existential crisis, having no idea why I was here anymore, just wanting to die. And I came out nearly sobbing and thinking hard about what I'd just seen. This movie helped change my entire thought process towards life. I made a new optimistic soul for myself because of Logan. I wish I was fucking kidding when I say a goddamn X-Men movie is the reason I'm not dead right now, but sometimes it's the weirdest shit that keeps you going.

    Logan will probably always be among one of the most emotionally taxing, most beautiful, and most memorable films I’ll ever see. I have not watched it since its premier, because the impact it had on me that night was so massive that the idea of watching it again, and having that impact be lessened the second time around, feels like a betrayal of the experience it provided me. It’s an irrational justification, but that’s just how much Logan moved me to my core. The only other film I’ve seen that’s been able to do that to me is The Nightingale so far.

    A fact I think went over most peoples heads is when logan states "we are gods mistakes" is a direct reference to what shinghen states in The Wolverine when he is in Japan battling him as shinghen states, " Like you and her that ruined this house, mutations, you are gods mistakes" i think the events in The Wolverine also happened since in the movie Logan also keeps samurai swords presumably from Japan.

    what I really like is how Xavier’s seizures are like a twisted version of his ‘freeze’ ability in the main films, it really gives this film a sense of continuity with the others even though it only carries over two actors, and furthermore it also gives a sense of horror to the power as a whole, that any one person could be capable of such power and also be so vulnerable to deeply human issues like Alzheimer’s, it fits so well with Logan’s later line on the comics: “about a quarter of it happened, and not like this” - this film doesn’t fully fit in with the others, but fragments of them remain in the canon, yet much like how the freeze ability is given this horrifying twist with the seizures, you get the sense that what of the old films did happen in this timeline happened in a much darker manner
