    If you have to set an alarm to get up at a certain time, get a timer for a bedside lamp. Being awakened by light is gentler than being awakened by an alarm clock. If you are in deep sleep when the lamp comes on, it probably won't wake you up. So set an alarm clock to go off 10 minutes later. That, of course, will wake you up, but thanks to the lamp, you probably won't be in deep sleep when the alarm clock goes off.

    Nice idea, might try some day. As it is I am awoken by IPhone sound of bird chirping slowly getting louder rather than a Jerk awake standard alarm.

  • @alwaysuseless

    @alwaysuseless

    4 жыл бұрын

    @MissVasques .. The SLOWLY getting louder is very cool. Of course, a timer is way cheaper than an iPhone. I have a lamp on both sides of the bed. If I got a timer for the other lamp, I could set it for 10 minutes later and never set an alarm clock. I couldn't sleep through both lamps being on.

    I use a lamp only with no audible alarm. I use a bright, daylight bulb (white light like the sun) on a floor lamp so it lights up my whole room. I have found that I feel much better waking up this way and after just a couple days, I began to wake up a couple minutes before the light would turn on

  • @alwaysuseless

    @alwaysuseless

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Daniel Nicholls ..This sounds good too. No pun intended. I would especially like your method, if the artificial sunlight slowly got brighter. Of course, one could just leave the shades, blinds, or whatever up, if rising with the sun were your aim. The problem with that, though, is it's better to sleep in a pitch dark space, and the street lamps and other outdoor lights make that only possible with all blinds, curtains, etc. drawn. I actually use cardboard between the glass and the blinds cut to the exact size of the windows.

    For anyone willing to try this: start on weekends and notice when you wake up naturally, and then on first weekday set an emergency alarm at the latest possible time, prepare ahead of time for work ( prep breakfast, bag, work, outfit, plan whatever you need) for the fastest bed to office/class. If you wake up before your alarm, then get up right away. If you don’t , that means you need to sleep earlier. Make sure you don’t do this on days you went out of your routine (example: hanging out till late, revenge procrastination, deadline work or study). Eventually you’ll start getting sleepy at a regular time if you maintain a regular wake up time. Include exercise or physical activity in your day as well.

    @@advenco344 I used to be able to postpone my alarm endless times, and in each of the 10-minutes intervals between two consecutive alarms I was able to fall back to sleep quickly and fully. This means I was losing a lot of time and also feeling unhappy because I would normally wake up tired (even if, in terms of duration, I was probably getting enough sleep) and rarely get up at the time I wanted. Now I am consistently waking up feeling more energised and always able to get up right away. As I said, I am also doing most/all of the things suggested in the playlist to which this video belongs (including going to sleep / waking up at regular times and exposing myself to sunlight as soon as I can) - but, if you had to ask me what I feel, my feeling is that leaving the alarm out had an early and detectable impact. More precisely, I feel that the sleep cycle issue (at around 6:00 in this video) might be the most relevant element in my case. But even the first thing, mentioned at 4:49, I guess.

Accord to this video you need to go to sleep sooner or later depending on sleep needs each night rather than waking up sooner or later in order to wake up same time each morning.

    I think the idea is to go to sleep as early as possible and have free time in the morning instead of the evening. Unfortunately nothing will be open, nobody will be awake, and nothing will be on tv. Also they don’t mention this but it’s also bad to go to sleep at different times so you’ll never be awake in the evening again. Society is, in a lot of ways, designed to make healthy living as difficult as possible.

    I absolutely LOVE the slide where you said “sleep is more important for health than diet or exercise”. That is absolutely true. I cringe or look with disdain on people who are so proud that they crush 5 am workouts or whatever, not realizing you will be leaner, stronger, and more focused from just sleeping more. I’ll take my 7.5 hours over 7 hours plus a workout. Sleep determines our food choices and also the quality of our training.

    A tip for those just starting this that I'll be using Try to make a sleep schedule where you willl attempt to wake yourself up at 4 ish at least 3 hours before your actual alarm would go off. Set your alarm as a backup in case you really have soomething you can't oversleep for but try to set yourself up so that you'd be awake long before that

    @@sunshinenOJ Define early hours? Our bodies are based on an internal clock that we ourselves can set, though the sun does have somthing to do with it it is possible. All I’m saying in this comment is go to bed super duper early so that your 8 hours of sleep will put you waking up at like 4 even if you would actually only need to wake up at 8 to make it to work. That way you wake up naturally and aren’t at any risk of missing work and can still have the alarm as a backup

Actually, it feels like I am getting tired again if I stay in bed and only get awake by getting up and doing something.

    I noticed it also has to do with your own circadian rhythm, that "internal clock" that tells us when we usually get tired & when is the appropriate time to wake up. Best example I have is myself. I'm a night owl, so if I go to sleep "too early" (for me meaning before 11:30 pm), I'll wake up after 9 hours of sleep & will need a nap during the day, getting tired again around 12-1:00pm. But if I go to bed after midnight or so, I'll wake up after 8h30-9h of sleep & feeling fresh all day long. In secondary 5, because I was tired all the time being on a very early daytime schedule - had to wake up at 5:45 am - I fell asleep all year long in economics class because it was in the afternoon (& not so much interesting to me lol).

    I would tend to say its at the point where you dont fall asleep again as quickly as normal. But thats really just a guess. I am having a similar problem due to other people in my house waking me up with noise. Sometimes if I cant sleep again but clearly didnt sleep enough, it helps to get up, do something (drink some water, walk around, last time I even ate something) and then get back to bed if you feel tired. But thats just what works for me. You have to find out what works for you mostly by yourself.

    Another really interesting video. I love waking up early, yet I do feel sluggish some mornings because I don’t go to bed/sleep early enough, this is something that I’m going to address, easily, by turning off my telephone so people can’t contact me late at night, although it maybe early in their country. Also, I do find myself feeling very tired and falling asleep mid to late afternoon, I will go to bed for about two or three hours sometimes, and at the same time I forfeit my exercise regime to the detriment of thus, but my body is telling me I need to sleep. I do find myself constantly falling asleep in the evenings whilst watching television, of course, this should be a natural indicator, that it’s time for me to go to bed. Therefore, I’m going to give this a good bash and try and conquer this issue, go to bed when I feel tired, turn off my mobile telephone, and my alarm clock, and wake up when my body wants to wake up. I’m hopeful that this will help :-) Much thanks once again for a very engaging, informative, and interesting video :-) much thanks 😊 🙏
