ONE WATCH COLLECTION - Rolex Explorer 214270 Watch Review

A full review and my thoughts on Rolex Explorer 214270 watch. Some people say it's the best watch Rolex makes and that it's a perfect one piece watch collection. Does it live up to that? Enjoy the review:)

Love my Explorer 214270! Knowing it's on my wrist makes me very happy. It's simple, elegant and classy.. Non pretentious, nothing to prove confidence. If it had to be only one watch it would be the Explorer hands down
Great video! I just bought a 214270 preowned today. It’s been a grail for three years.
Really great video. You made it very interesting by not dwelling on specs and your commentary was well thought out.

Thank you very much!
Great watch as it's very versatile. I recently bought an oyster perpetual 39mm and I was surprised with how big it wore on my wrist as well.
Have viewed all your videos about the Explorer - and thanks for all the great material... Finally got mine from the AD yesterday and can totally agree on this could be the single-watch-collection... Amazing piece. Wear it in good health and keep the videos coming ;) I would love a comparison to the BB58, as that has been on my radar as well (if they could just loose those fake rivets on the bracelet!)
Great video Oleg. I like the new format of your videos of dividing them up into a review and then personal opinion of owning the watch. The reasons why you like the watch make sense.

Thanks Vincent! It’s more work but I’m glad that the final result is better:)
Great review ! I have this watch ,purchased June 2019 . i love it ,its classic ,understated ,elegant ,and looks great on my black Everest band .I also have a 2019 Omega Railmaster and am getting an Omega 2020 Aqua Terra Seamaster . The new Omega movements Master Chronometer are fantasic movements .Between these 2 brands ..Rolex and Omega any watch collection is complete !!
Great video my friend please keep it up. I was wondering if you would do an in depth video of the older Rolex watches like the r6694 1972 black dial or the white dial why I say that is because I was thinking of purchasing one myself like I said before thanks a lot of this video it really helps me out of choosing the right Rolex to purchase.
I tried on a pre-owned 1 that I wanted to get but was not in a position to get it at the time. Once I am in a place to get one I will purchase 1. I compared it to the Explorer II as well and this Explorer I is my favorite!
Great overview. Just purchased the same. It’s amazing how we rationalize these purchases.
Great video. If I had to choose one watch as my only watch, it would be my Helson SharkDiver 40 with raised markers and sapphire crystal. The latter two details really transform the watch from a chunky tool watch to a tool watch that can also be used as an every day watch. Plus the 40mm isn't too big nor too small. Sort of an homage Submariner, but design also stands alone. Really enjoy it.
Thanks for the review! My collection is still humble, so the watch I would keep would be my Tissot PR 100 automatic (it is the previous model of the current one). Its aesthetic and sporty purpose are similar to the Explorer and it fits perfectly with suits and jeans as well. Btw, my favorite Rolex is the Oyster Perpetual 39, I hope some day I get one!
I own the explorer 14270 and I love it as well.
I was debating between the Explorer versus the Oyster Perpetual (39mm, black) for a few mos. They're both pretty similar. I ultimately went with the OP, but still like the Explorer. I'm very happy with the OP.
I called my AD. Six month wait for it at the boutique in Orange County. You were super lucky to just walk in and get one. There's like a 1500 premium on it. That's like free money sitting in a shop window.
Thanks so much for this. This helped alot
The terminology of a Rolex is unparalleled... and you nailed it ..... I learned new terms ... thanks!! I was a Sub fan for decades... I’m now leaning towards the Explorer....
Could you please do a side by side comparison between 214270 and bb58? Both of them are small watches with slim profile and good for everyday use, this might sound odd, but I believe many people are choosing between the two like me.
I love my Tudor GMT! So that would be my one watch. But you are tempting me in to getting an explorer!
Nice review! A comparison video between the Explorer and the Black Bay 58 would be cool next :)
Great video sir! Have this piece on my radar, good clear review :)
I owned one for a while, but never bonded with it. I have a Milgauss Z-blue now and absolutely could not be happier. Another great video though man, thanks!

Hi Oleg. Great vid, as usual. I have the same watch and I agree with everything you say about it. Mine is a year and a half old and has had a few scratches on it, but I have managed to remove them all with some Cape Cod. Keep up the good work. I'll check out your NATO straps, can never have enough of those.

Great review, well done.
Hi Oleg. What is the real life accuracy you are getting from the Explorer? Is it as advertised by Rolex?
I think I agree with you regarding the 1 watch collection. - I just backed the Track Summiteer KickStarter. Its similar to the Explorer but at $400. More in my price range.
From a fellow Canadian, great video and I love the Explorer; I'm biased thought because I own one. Cheers

I have an Explorer as well so I am biased, I would keep it as my only watch. I’m in line to get a Hulk and Pepsi GMT like you mentioned to complete the look!
Lovely watch and agree glide lock would be good but it’s cheaper than the sub. Can’t believe it doesn’t have ceramic bearings on the clasp.
Great video bud! I just purchased a Rolex Datejust from 2002, all stainless steel with a engine turned bezel and tapestry dial. It looks great with t shirt and jeans and dressed up with a suit. I feel that almost all Rolexs are this versatile

Great vid. Completely agree. Best watch made! Nice tshirt too.. what is it
Torn between this and a date just....so nice
My first choice is still a Sub (or a 16600 in my case) but the EXP1 in 39mm is SWEET! Congrats on your purchase
There is a special feel and charm to this watch. Its design and size hit a perfect pitch that few watches can match. Great review Oleg!! Congrats on getting this watch.

Great review mate. And a great watch! Enjoy it.
I knew you were gonna say GMT Master II before you did, I felt the same way for a long time. The versatility of the Explorer is just unbeatable though.
Thanks for Share your opinion and experience, have a question , how about the damage to use day by day? 🤔I love the submariner, then I saw this explorer and I found it very interesting, but I have the doubt if it is damaged a lot with daily use, I see that the glass protrudes or is like it is very exposed, and the truth is that I am a little careless and I do not know if it would hurt with my use, my idea is to use it without worries at work and daily, just take it off to train. how is your experience. greetings and you have a very good collection.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wanted an explorer 1 forever now. The move to 36mm really got me rethinking. I saw it in person and I think its fine. But after getting to try on a 40/41mm Sub/E2, I'm rethinking yet again. I think my wrists and frame are just better suited to a bigger watch.
Great review!....thank you!
I have this watch, as well as a 214060 sub and some other very nice watches… and, this is my favorite! Period. Full Stop. The best… Great video that speaks to my feelings. Nice to hear that Im not alone! Thanks.
If I was in the market for a Rolex this would be it. Lovely watch.
a very nice alternative would be Longines Conquest Classic Automatic

Had the 36mm Explorer now own the 39 and have no plans to buy another watch because I love it
I bought it last week. It is awesome. The only negative to me is the crystal reflection
I have not a big watch collection yet but it would be difficult for me becouse I have a old seamaster from 1958 that I get after a family member of me was dying and than I have a Tudor Black Bay Steel. I don't wear the omega very often but it's a special watch for me. I would hold on the omega but I would cry
I really enjoy your videos. This watch was nearly my first back at 2013, after I finished my army service. Ended up getting a breitling galactic 41instead (yes today you would laugh at comparison). My first Rolex was a The new DJ 41 blue fluted and I love it. Nevertheless, this watch never left my thoughts, and one day I might end up scratching that itch and pulling the trigger. Keep up the good work oleg your channel is awesome!!

Dori Cohen are you happy with your DJ Blue? Am strongly considering it & the Explorer for my first Rolex. My concern with the DJ is that people will see the date cyclops & prejudice me because I own a Rolex. The Explorer is so understated that only those who know & love watches will know it’s a Rolex.
I just ordered this Explorer I, have to wait for 3 months I guess. I can imagine that this watch could be my one and only watch, BUT atm my one watch collection would be my Yachtmaster 40mm in blue. Although I would miss my Batman or my DJ, also my Moony etc....so, not easy to find a one watch collection for me. Nearly impossible.
Nice review 👍. Great piece no doubt, for me though I prefer my Tudor North Flag

I've gotta say the 39mm looks perfect on your wrist. The 36mm would look too small. The only other watch I can think of that could fill the Explores spot as the perfect all around watch is the Omega Aqua Terra, but not all models.
It's just Explorer or Omega Aquaterra for 1 watch collection. I prefer Omega becouse of date complication...

I had a grand Seiko (sbga085) which is similar in style and I actually got bored of how perfect it was! It made my other watches redundant (as it was water resistant, smart, casual, accurate and a strap monster) and so I sold it and went back to a speedy, sinn104 ABE and a Christopher ward c60mk3(40mm).... now I’m thinking I need to get rid of all them and get an explorer haha “it’s an illness not a hobby”

Another great video...the watch is nice but someone in the video doesn't agree. :)
Great video and great watch, from the professional watches, the explorer is perfect for daily wear and adventure, the watch was perfectly designed for that purpose, is rugged, accurate, a perfect dial with large hours markers and characteristics 3,6 and 9 numerals with an excellent legibility even in the dark and most of all, one of the best for adventures since 1953. Excellent timepiece that you should keep in your collection, congrats 👍👍👍

Oлег, де ти купив та блузка? Мені сподобалося
The Explorer is one of the most unassuming Rolex watches ever. I had a 36 mm till it was stolen.. When I purchased it it was a very modest price back in 1981. The Explorer is a watch that when you see it on someone you know they're not going to play watch snob if you strick up a conversation about their watch. They own the watch for the pure simplicity and function of the watch its durability and heritage. Too bad they stop making the 36 mm. great review thanks
Great video - love the explorer , cause I own one. People that say it's boring, are more then likely not into watches or don't know much about watches.

Hey Oleg, Many thanks for your thorough review of the Rolex Explorer. I have a Cartier Roadster, Tudor Black Bay (Blue), Omega Seamaster AquaTerra with a Master Coaxial movement. Have a Ralph Lauren Stirrup & just sold my Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT Good Planet Edition. It was just too big at 45mm. Anyway, I’m glad you spent most of your review on how you wear the watch, it’s aesthetics, & your feelings about it. I’m preparing to buy my first Rolex and the Explorer and the Datejust41 (Stainless Steel with the serrated 14k Bezel) are the two I’m considering. I’m leaning toward the Datejust41 because of the 3235 movement. With a 70 hour power reserve, it’s a helluva timepiece. However, the cyclops date magnifier will draw attention to my wrist, which I’d rather not have. The Explorer is so understated in it’s presentation. Only those that know & appreciate watches will “get it”. And I’m with you - totally knocked out with the GMT Master II Pepsi with Jubilee. Stunning. I’ve seen it in person. What one watch would I keep? My Omega Aqua Terra. The Tudor would be a close second, and it’s half the price. My appreciation & love of my Tudor hasn’t diminished at all. Thanks for including Bond in your videos. Is he a French Bulldog? Comedians John Mulaney & Ron White bring their frenchies on stage with them at the end of their shows!

Ward Worthington I think the explorer now has the upgraded movement too, the only difference is the lack of date function. The submariner is the watch that has the old movement still, for now anyway
Man, you have Explorer and BB 58... the only two watches I dream about. I am so jealous! Greetings from Bosnia, Europe! :)

It's not boring; it's just pure and simple.
I’m an Omega guy. This is the only Rolex that interests me. Stunning yet practical everyday watch. Very nice review. If I could only keep one watch it would be my 1999 Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch (for sentimental reasons). The watch I wear & enjoy the most is a 2014 Tudor Heritage Ranger, the “poor man’s “ Rolex Explorer 😁

Thank you my friend. Bothe the Tudor and the Speedy are fantastic timepieces!
This was a great video. Nice to see that you are enjoying what you bought. Personally, I would agree that this would make a good 1 watch collection do to its versatility and quality. However, its still worth to much to be your only watch. I think there are situations where you don’t want something so valuable in open site. If you van afford this watch, you can afford another watch. If I could only have 1 watch, it would be my Casio G-Shock DW-5600-1E. I need a watch like this for my job. Probably one of the most durable watches, 200 wr, plus all the features. It would be the watch I need, not the watch I would want to keep.

Thank you my friend! Great choice with the G-Shock. As you probably know I am becoming a big fan of mine:)
I have the same Explorer and I also have a Rolex Sub. If you put them side by side the Explorer looks bigger than the Sub. If you look at the specs the Sub is 40mm while the Explorer is 39mm bezel to bezel. But the dial face on the Explorer is about 2mm larger. The look of the Explorer is understated but has a certain presence on the wrist. I also think you can wear the Explorer for any occasion.
@24hourstime
4 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree. The Explorer looks larger than Submariner and GMT Master.
After much experience with both Submariners, or Stopwatches, the only true watch is the Explorer. How many dive to 300m, or use the stopwatch functions? The Explorer's simple, easy to see, can be worn with suit or on surfboard. In need of 2nd timezone, the Explorer II. Both elegant, sporty, ready to go anywhere, anytime.
This is probably the best Rolex ever, because of its versatility. It could really be the best option for a one watch collection, even though it's not the only one. There are other less expensive options like the Tudor Black Bay 36 for example. The more I look at your BB58, the more I love that watch... It would be another very good option for a one watch collection!

Great video Oleg, but I'm on the side of "Boring Watch." I can't see spending $6+K on a basic 3-hander with no other complications...not even a date complication. Much rather prefer an Explorer II.
Mr Bond may tell you, I believe in the original books, the original Bond wore an Explorer, not a Sub as in the movies

Great video on the Explorer. I like watching videos about a watch that I just got in Vancouver a few months ago ;) This watch is simple, elegant, strong, and beautiful. It's a bit of a chameleon in that its beauty and feel is often aligned to the environment, because it is so reflective of what's around it. A bit of a disco ball, I guess. I love the size, the feel, the strap, the weight. It's just a great watch. From one owner to another - cheers! ps - i love the gmt2 pepsi as well

@@24hourstime No kidding! I got mine at GWC... I went in and asked about an explorer and they had a card to fill out to get on a list. They called me a week later! I couldn't believe it. A couple weeks ago I went back there to hopefully fill out a card and get on a list for a GMT, but they said they don't take wait lists. It's first come, first serve, they say. So I'd have to go there every day and see if one is in the display... not likely. But yeah.... it's tough to get a watch here. And then you have places like Bob's Watches in California with a lot of great used watches. Wish we had a bob's in canada. End of rant! lol What's your next watch?

Another nice upload, Oleg! I'm not too sure if I will choose my Explorer as the one watch I'll keep if I absolutely had to get rid of my small collection. @@24hourstime... hey, thanks for the reply. I noticed I made a huge typo error on my comment. I meant Explorer "I" ( although of course it's just Explorer) and not "II" as originally posted. Yep... this boring piece is quire special!
I would love one but Rolex is just too expensive now. I would rather spend a lot less for the slightly better looking Longines Conquest with black dial.
Oleg, thanks for another excellent review! This is the most sincere review of the Explorer that I saw on KZread! Have you ever considered Submariner (vs Explorer, or in addition to Explorer). Отличный обзор, Олег! Реально лучший откровенный обзор этих часов. Жаль что ты не в Торонто. Удачи! Ты не смотрел в сторону Submariner?
Oleg, I have one of these bought it a few weeks ago and am now in a position to give my thoughts. It is a beautifully made watch and as you say very comfortable. The real, beauty of it is the bracelet which is engineered to perfection and the clasp is stunning and wonderful to open and close. There are a couple of things that are a let down on this watch though. The hands, though bigger than the previous model, are still too small. They should use the hands from the Submariner. Secondly the depth of the watch could go up to say 13mm to add some heft to it. Lastly the lume is rubbish. You say it's great but really it's not. Looks great in its blue for a few minutes only but is absolutely no good in the middle of the night. However, I love my watch and think as someone said this Explorer is for the man who has nothing to prove.
