Ocean To Orbit Lhotse Watch Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Before last month, I had never heard of this brand from these two local guys here in Melbourne Australia
Finding myself at a recent watch meet I stumbled onto this relatively new micro-brand and was so impressed by their offering from the minute I picked up their watches.
I asked if they could lend me the entire range so I can test them out for a week and both Dave and Sid were more than happy to oblige.
I share my thoughts after spending a week with these watches on the wrist...good, bad, indifferent

By God when Peter Kotsa posts a video about a one watch collection for under $1,000, you click! This watch is beautiful and for the specs and the fact nothing is off the shelf, it’s a great value also. I’m really feeling green dials lately. Thank you for the great review Sir!

They should've added another, 'o' and changed the name to ' On The Other Hand'. That's a freebie to any other brand ( some recognition would be nice, though...). I understand the goldilocks 38 ( I'd do the same for a 1st watch) but I just keep getting smaller - now from a C63 36mm to a Hamilton AtTo Jazzmaster 34mm, which has some anti-magnetism - for my OCD. Good luck to 'em.

I guess they picked a random Swiss movement only to be able to smack a "Swiss Made" label on the dial. They could've easily picked a Miyota 9039 and set the price at 500-600usd. "Swiss Made" doesn't hold much weight these days...

I notice a lot of people saying it should be $200 less, yet the reality is if other micro-brands designed everything except the movement and had to have those parts machined all the other brands would be $200 more. I’m glad they have bucked the norm and invested more in the design.

I would recommend everyone read the article on their website which describes how the watch was useful on her climb. She mentions that having the watch was very useful to save battery on her satellite phone (at severe temperatures batteries drain fast, so phones have to be kept off for most of a climb). It was also useful in calculating ascent times and planning rest periods. Really wonderful to see the usefulness of a mechanical watch highlighted on it

Green with red always look good together. My green dekla turbulenz is a great example. Seiko has honored Naomi Umuera with various willards. Think it would be outstanding to have a special model for Purnima. Thanks for the great review!

Thank you for sharing Pete. Great company with what appears to be a very well thought out ofering. I like the design, specs in general, and high quality. The on-the-fly adjustable clasp is a must and I am glad it will be available. Although I'm not familiar with the STP 1-21 movement, from what I've read it is made by the Fossil Group, and it is basically another clone of the ETA 2824, and seems to be a very accurate and reliable movement. Lastly, at US$795 i feel it is a fair price but certainly tops and wish it had included the upgraded clasp. All in all, i feel this is a great watch. I also applaud their contributions to Purnima's expeditions as well as other charities. Well done!

I am quite convinced at the quality and execution of the design. Its comes through on screen. I completely get why the bracelet excites and while normally I enjoy polished accentuation, here it works very well without and morevoder fits into the space between the lugs super precisely. Yet, my problem is that I find the backstory a bit of a gimmick which is worsened by the brand name. It's no surprise then, that aestheitcally it also doesnt appeal. The regular version looks to want to be more dressy than its design elements allow. The more sporty WEM version seems more suitably styled, but of course takes away from GADA quality. The price is certainly a bit up there, too. It actually makes me think of Henry Archer, as a GADA formula. HA design language feels more informal than toolish, but the execution and detail bring serious chops in refinement. I think that strikes a better balance, also in price, and doesn't need an elaborate costly back story to pull it off.

Sorry but I'm not a fan of vertical brushing on dials. They should have at least have one option that wasn't a vertical brushed dial. I'd rather keep this nice manual adjust clasp. All these people going for the on the fly adjustment clasps probably won't realise that one day that the clasp will fail with the amount of adjustment they do to it. How likely will you be able to replace that clasp? Quite a few years down the line, these microbrands may not exist, and getting a replacement or even getting a similar 3rd party clasp that fits bespoke bracelets will be difficult.

Nice watches! Seems like several hits are coming from Australia! My pet peeve is the whole "Swiss made" things. Who cares nowadays? A 100 years ago that moniker stood something because of technological advantage. Today - seriously? The makers should be proud of their own uniqueness! I'd pay for a watch that rocks an "AUSTRALIA" where this one has "AUTOMATIC" just for the exotic factor. Or at least drop a "DOWN UNDER" instead of "Swiss made". Own it! But I'm weird - I don't care for specs being on the face of the watch, like "automatic" or the water resistance. I care for the specs, and buy accordingly, but I don't care to have them written on the dial. Dials should just look beautiful, regardless of text.

I just can't like this one. I can't dig on designers who didn't design anything. It's identical to so many watches. It looks like it's an off-the-shelf San Martin case and bracelet with the cheapest Swiss movement they could get. IDK, I'm just not digging this watch at this price. You could get a comparable Hamilton, Tuseno or Nivada Grenchen for the same price or less. As far as the explorer angle, the age of exploration is over. Putting a watch on an teenage alpine skier is a better test than someone on an everest tour. Until this watch gets sent to the moon, I think it is lost in the shuffle and the story falls flat.

One watch is not a collection. If One of anything is a collection, I have a house collection, car collection and hundreds of other collections.

I will never understand why it's called a "one watch collection.".......you need more than one to be called a collection.

It’s just a term used for watch enthusiasts We all have multiple watches, so the idea of a ONE watch is a bit of a novelty I suppose we call it collection because of familiarity, whereas we all know it’s not a collection

I like the watch. I will never buy something with such a dumb name. An aliexpress name generator brand would come up with something like that

It's better than "Norqain", that's the worst in my book. Sounds like a painkiller drug

It's case design is a blatant Grand Seiko Evolution 9 (White Birch) rip off. Totally unoriginal.

Pretty boring, actually. Stupid brand name. Not something I'd want, to be honest. I mean, it's OK.....but not very exciting.

It's a completely different story in the hand Michael. I actually asked these guys for the watches because of their high level of quality finishing when I handled them at the watch meet. Nonetheless, thanks for sharing bro 👍

Thanks for sharing these micro brand watches or else I would never have heard of them. Very impressive watches.... if only they were in 44-45 mm 😢

The brand name eliminates it immediately for me. With so many nice watches in that price range a person does not have to try to accept any niggle that would bother them. It can make selection of a watch a lot easier if you decide upfront that there are certain things that eliminate watches from the list. One of those niggles is a brand name that just doesnt appeal to me. There are some pretty stupid ones out there. Nice watches, stupid brand name equals a big no for me. You no longer have to compromise. There are so many micro brands out there. You just have to be willing to search for the one that meets your requirements.
