Today we are looking at one of the oldest most played ships in the entire game. Has time left this ship underpowered or is it still one of the best dd's in the game?

Dang, what a great show of situational awareness, good decision making, knowing strenghts and weaknesses of the ships you are facing _and ofc a bit of luck helps as well_ That second shima game...one of the most, if not the most entertaining DD game on YT I've seen in the last 2 months and it's also teaching good lessons.

RPF all day long in the Shimmy. For all the usual reasons, but also it's best single gunnery enhancement. Yes, Shimmy reload is long but OMG the damage of a salvo. RPF so you always have the 1st shot. Don't care what DD you are in, finding out you are in a gunfight with a Shimmy because you just ate a full salvo of Shimmy HE is a bad day. Fun thing is, other DDs underestimate the Shimmy guns all the time and make bad decisions. Like attacking with too little HP or chasing while ignoring the Shimmy has 2 aft turrets and can trade pretty well in that mode. They can be punished for all that and I can witness that happens quite a bit.

100% agree, even with my Swift in Silence perk i get good damage. So many DD's come rushing in, thinking to get an easy kill. But the velocity, arcs, fire chance and HE dmg are more than a match for most DD's, and AP can really surprise some cruisers broadsided. These guns are WAY underrated.

i mean, he played very well but ballsy? Imho if you know Shima it wasn't ballsy. He actualy did run too far for me. You just need to have that Island out of detectionrange and you are fine. Haru is slower, has a bigger detectionrange and, even if he spots you, he for sure will turn to use all of the guns. Aaaand you're undetected again. That is just my humble opinion so no need to go crazy D:

You were talking about the torp speed option. I haven’t done the math for the Shima, but I did it to choose between the 90 and 95 knot torps in the Halland. The important thing to know is that hit probability goes up as the square of torpedo velocity. For the Halland, 95 knots have a 11.4% greater probability of getting a hit, all else equal, compared to the 90 knot torps. I would expect Shima to be higher. 2 points (Swift Fish) for 14.8% (I just did the math.) higher hit probability seems a good deal to me.

I've honestly had tremendous success with the 20km torps actually, which is weird. People on YT, streams, reddit and even my grandparents keep telling me that "20kms are bad, only bad players get hit by them" which might be true, but they are a MENACE to be reckon with in random battles. The bonus being t hat you don't have to care about radar ranges either. So you can torp from 12,1-14 clicks away. I only have 72-73k damage average on my shima, but I reckon that's decent enough (got over 60% winrate, so either im doing something right or im getting carried in over half of my games :P) but I consider that decent cus I for sure have some of those games where you just don't hit ANY torpedoes. Just like how I Do with the Halland, and the games are just over in minutes, so you don't really get to make much of a difference. Whilst on the 12km ones I feel whilst the speed is TREMENDOUSLY good, you have the opportunity to get blapped faster as well or be irrelevant if you get unlucky and meet a lineup with many radars (like your first game)

I have however never gotten anything special done with the 8km ones, and I assume they are just more of a meme than anything. @@Popmycherryyo I think the difference is using the 20km torps from 10-12 km away and then having the extra range just in case. Nothing wrong with using them like that, opponents just have a little more time to react but they can never out range them. The meme about the 20km torps being awful is people using them on targets 18-24km away and then wondering why they have spread so far apart that even the Yamato can find gaps to turn through.
