I have never felt the dispersion was a problem with this ship.

Neither me and I play it quite often. I have found the dispersion to be quite good (running Kuznetsov).

Indeed. The dispersion itself isn't the problem; it's the long reload combined with low AP damage per shell combined with not so good dispersion.

The dispersion is ass if u try bow tanking and only using the 2 front turrets but if u get all 3 off it’s a lot better but u get slapped if u try to get the 3rd turret off

First real game I played with the petro was a loss, but I was the last alive and had about 5 moments through the match that I was like I definitely should have died there. Definitely one of the best tech line cruisers.
The turret rotation was the big shock for me. It feels like BB guns. It's a great ship sub 10km. But passed that Moskva is a better cruiser

2:33 Not only the rear turret has 360° rotation. EVERY turret has. That's good compensation for slow turrets which allows you to kite efficiently. Especially if you know that angles of front turrets pretty good.

Played range mod Petro to grind out the Cruiser Emblem, it does fight very well at range as well. Being able to hit BBs where they live and having enough shell velocity and pen to be effective at that range too is great in the meta. 360 on all turrets feels great too especially if you need to turn and run.

the range mode improve the accuracy at medium and long range due to the weird accuracy curve of the petro (same for the napoli). i test it on my Napoli and I cannot do without now...

Two words: range mod. Makes a world of difference on dispersion, especially around 15km.

@@newcomerj3095 IIRC, horizontal dispersion is whats listed and scales with range. Vertical dispersion is not listed in game and is always the same value for a given ship at max range. So, when you increase range, say from 18->20km, your vert dispersion gets tighter at 18km, and your 20km vert dispersion is the same as your old 18km.

It would be interesting to see if the frequency of ships played data spikes after one of these videos. I always find myself going out to play the ship after I watch one. It can't be just me.
I learn more from your videos than I learn from almost any others. (Well, really MORE THAN ANY OTHER, but don't want to blow your head up too big. ; )~ A lot of the other videos from other players spend way too much time trying to impress, rather than teach. I've been playing WoWs for about 6 months now, and now know enough to know I don't know shit. If you every need volunteers to get shot at, and blown all to hell, I can do that. Fact, I'm getting pretty darn good at it. lol I'm literally taking notes on a piece of paper and pencil. (I'm old school...lol) But thanks for the your efforts to bring these videos to us. You do a fine job at educating!
I take range mod and the improvement to vertical dispersion is very significant, especially at long range. I also take the top grade gunner skill for improved reload when I push in.

Petro's dispersion is, on paper, worse than the Moskva's (irrc, at least) and may be worse than other T10 cruisers (that bit I haven't bothered to check), but the good ballistics and easy handling of her guns more than make up for that in my book. Also, if you look up the pen for her guns, it's not just the improved angles; their raw pen is crazy, to the point it rivals some battleships-something like 200 mm more than the Riga or Moskva, if I recall. The Riga, I think, has the same dispersion... but I distinctly feel it more on that ship, and I think it's because the Riga really needs those good salvos more than the Petro. Whereas Petro seems to have the armor to weather a storm, Riga... is somewhere between having the armor to tank like a Moskva or Petro and having the maneuverability to play like a regular cruiser in open water, and she falls into an unhappy middle ground that (in my experience) was mostly quite weak. She could absolutely shine, and, when I've had good matches in the Riga, there are very few other ships that could've done what I needed... it's just that she doesn't have a toolkit that's exploitable in most of the situations you end-up in. Poor dispersion, low dpm, lack of PetroPen, and good-but-not-stellar armor kinda make the Riga awkward and not that fun.

it has something like kremlin dispersion, under around 12km its really good, and above that it starts to fall off
I have my petro full AA-build, even with the module and all, shreds planes. Its good enough that it still feels powerfull without speccing into guns or survivability too much

You must be running mods, I can't tell what the 4th one is on Modules/upgrades. (Counting left to right) It looks like Damage control mod 2 (?) Also, what reticle do you use? And overall what Mod app do you use?

Petro is still quite OP, even after the nerfs. Stay angled, ass forward. If needed, substitute reload mod for range mod to increase accuracy. Personally prefer Nevsky for longer radar and more dakka, but Petro is a solid pick regardless.

I also think, the nerfs affected it, making it less tanky than it was. This was a little bit in raising the hull, but the bigger one was decreasing the deck armor. A lot has to do with skill level. A higher skill level, the DM is more powerful. Lower skill level (me), it seems that the Russian line is preferable and you will do better.

"I don't like the Petro because it's guns are incosistent" and is delivering citadels left, right and center. PQ/29.10.2022 - this is a meme in itself ^^
PQ, you might already be aware of this but taking range mod on Petro actually improves the dispersion. since Petro and Napoli have a nonlinear dispersion curve it will feel okay up to about 12 or 13 km and then start to feel bad going to worse from there. what range mod on Petro will do is push that point out to about 15 km and Napoli sharing the same curve has the same effect. Percy B it's a no-brainer to take range but for randoms I guess it's just a judgment call. since you play aggressive you may want to keep reload but range does more work on Petro than any other ship in the game.
I use the radar like what I call an Intel Radar aka I don't use it to shoot someone but to know where they are so my team can knock it out. It works really well in cbs
I think Russian BB (including petro bc come on its honestly tankier than most bbs) and Japanese BB dispersion are essentially the opposite: Russians can't hit anything at range but are laser accurate in brawling ranges, and Japanese BBs are great sniping and long range but at brawling range the shots from a single turret will land in 3 separate post codes
i like how in the first 7 minutes when ever you zoom in on sb he just turns broadside :D blessed^^ what you missed i think, because its not "your style" is that petro is a supremely good kiting ship. Enemy DDs have to push into a 400m radar gap. you have great armor layout to bounce shells so it can really be sitting in kiting position, providing radar against pushing DDs and holding a push. 360 turrets also help big time swichting engagement side on the kite. Its VERY strong at that. the dispersion gets wonky on range. Everyone who plays CB knows the feeling when you get in a position to shoot the huge citadel of a moskwa on like 16 km and then get no damage in 3 salvos xD So i understand your feeling. its nothing compared to stalin/moskwa at those 15km+ ranges. Close range its very good though. To me it feels rangemod kinda pushes that "point where it gets wonky" further out. I like running ranged mod for the extra accuracy and also keepin the turrets nice and fast to deal with DDs on the short duration radar.

Maybe it's just me, but ever since Subs have become accessable for everyone in the Tech Tree....I have not even seen ONE in the game! Granted, I didn't play too much, but I have played at least 50+ games since the patch came out, yet not a single submarine. Of course, I don't miss them at all, mind you, but maybe we were right after all and the vast majority of the players don't want to play subs and even for those who tried it, the novelty wore off. What say you?

There is that sub operation right now and the free tokens will only really get you both t6 or the t6 and t8 of one line; so...?

I believe the Russian heavies have the same kind of dispersion pattern as the BBs; really good at sub-15 km, kinda bad any further than that.

Loosing HP in Petro is just Free AR
The last time I played the game it was with Riga and I managed to get to a choke point in one of the maps where 4 BB's were just targeting me down while they gave me Broadside. So I had a 3mil potential game 150K dmg and died like seconds before the game ended by dd torps. I do think Riga is much more finicky than Petro when it comes to finding actually GOOD positions but, if you find one MAN is it a good time😁
What do you think about this thing with using Range Mod to extend the good dispersion formula from ~11km to ~14km?

When I watch other people's wow videos, every other "idiot" turns broadside at a distance of 10 km and people have 3-4 citadels. When I play wow absolutely no one turns broadside. If anyone does then I have problems with dispersion, of course. With Petro the result is 1020 damage in that case
Dispersion at range is bad. Dispersion at 10km where you fought the Baltimore is cruiser consistent.
you make most ships look good with your skills, man. There are even situations when you admired a ship a lot, then the tide flew opposite direction when you made another video on the same ship a while later. for example, republique 😅 it confuses me. Yet I am really close to grinding it

Well in ransoms everyone thinks that oh petro op ship everyone focus him and then you get focused and die sooner, so it feels a lot less tanky sometimes

How do you stay motivated to continue to play this game? All I get is blowout after blowout, win or loss, every day anymore. It's just not fun lately.

Tallinn is one of the strongest T8 cruisers. Try to play with your team and to use your Radar to win the DD fights. Tallinn is amazing in backing up DDs. Both concelament expert skill and concealment module are must haves of course so you can push up to island cover on some maps. The AP shells are great for smashing broadsiding cruisers and even Battleships, on the latter you need to aim higher on the upper belt. But try to avoid 1vs1 fights against Battleships cause most of them overmatch Tallinn. Hope that helps :) I really enjoyed Tallinn but Riga is a let down for me.

I believe the dispersion gets good within 15km and so but bad at long range

I agree with you, you are wrong.ha. To me Petro is easily the best T10 tech tree cruiser in the game, probably the best T10 cruiser all around. If I am having one of those days when no mater what I do I get my ass handed to me in any ship I play, I jump into Petro and life is good again. Petro is the first Super ship its just at T10 not T11. I am not a great player but Petro makes me feel pretty dam good about myself. Anyway thanks for sharing your video.

I have rid myself of most tech-line ships. I still have Montana, Conqueror, Fletcher and Gearing, plus Renown, Rooke and Duncan. I think that's it. I mostly play my premiums now.
I found full lighthouse build (max DPM) fun with this... and same time max fire preventions... Just make sure you have island on your broadside
Personally I just CANNOT make the petro work. Every game (I play on the SEA server) I find myself getting focused the shit out of (no I don't show broadside to bbs) and die without being able to do shit because every enemy is bow in. Even when im having a good day in WOWS, I try the petro and just get shit on, this may sound crazy but I feel way more impactful on a t10 game *in a prinz eugen, a t8* than I do in the petro

Petro is meant to be played as a close range tank. That is why she feels inconsistent at range. at anything less than 10km, it is soviet railgun accuracy.
I play it alot thats true about great pen gun, great AA, tanky ship ehem 2.5M average potential damage thats more thank than an average bb can handle. But its strugle againts ss yup event u can detect the torps u cant dodge with this ship manuver ability. Beter use defensive AA than a hydro bro, why u are detecing torps if u cant avoid it. The great palyer know where the trops will come from
Anemic HE and trolly dispersion at longer ranges are really only downsides to the ship . And these two downsides are totally compensated by the radar, hydro, tankiness and shell velocity. But like you said, it's kind of boring line of ships and ship to play - I rather play Des Moines in randoms.
Lol talks about the poor dispersion, fires 3 laser beam salvoes right after that. This ship has amazing dispersion. This ship is basically op.
I wanna see new maps in WOWS that confine spaces like two brothers, where a cap circle could be in that little of a channel maybe even smaller so torpedos would be hard to manage it'd be a really dangerous cap with subs and cv's so i could see either subs capping it, or it being ignored. I'd also love to see different tiers of islands, not just those which block shots, but perhaps some lower sitting ones that can block citidels on some ships and others that only block torpedos with nothing sticking out from the water, but Hazzard makers so surface ships don't run into them, i think more of those kind of islands in the middle of the map could help encourage BB's to push without the threat of torpedos. I'd also love to see ice maps with terran that can be worn down in phases, like if you shoot it a number of times it'll start to break apart in a- not realistic but controllable way, so if you shoot a large ice island, it breaks in such a way that you can use it for limited cover but it'd also become a prime target at the start of maps to start wearing down some of these to make sure your enemy can't hide behind them- which might take some pressure off cruisers that first get spotted being targeted by many BBs who are holding shells.. if they hold shells they create dangerous islands that can be used.. if they fire.. they might miss out on dev strikes. It'd also be great to see capture zones with defenses, if you capture an island on one map, perhaps each side has a long range gun, which fires a huge HE shell from a land weapon at great distance but it'll only target cruisers and up, and the shell is easy to avoid but does cause people to dodge Perhaps expanding this a capture zone that has planes that become a consumable for the person that captures it (or has the most points capturing) and can only be targeted at an island the attack is designed to splash either side of the island hit enemies and friendlies but to dig out ships sitting in one place forever. (much like cv's and planes were meant to)
I feel like it would depend on if watching two team mates derp into a Sevastopol and die would piss me off or not. Mostly because if we still win, no harm was done. Now if them derping and dieing cost us the game, oh yes I'm going to be pissy, though even then it does depend on the tier. I don't expect anything from say T5 players, so if an Omaha decides he wants to be a hero and derps into death it doesn't really bother me to much. I do expect T10 players to understand how to play the game, and that tends to lead me into getting frustrated a lot easier when I see T10 players making mistakes that I NEVER see T5 players make. Or if I do see a T5 player make said mistake it's a ship that's a usual suspect like an Omaha. I feel my expecting players to understand how to play the game by T9/10 is also justified by how long the grind to T10 is for a new player. It takes a good long time to derp your way up the tech tree if you suck at the game and 99% of all new players suck. Though even with that, when ARP Yamato released and you would see brand new accounts playing her they often scored close to middle of the team. These brand new players were on par with the average T10 player, yet people complained that Wargaming selling a T10 was "ruining T10". Though as mentioned I expect someone after 20-40 hours in a game to at least understand the basic mechanics of said game.

Yes, the heavy cruiser russians have the same inverse dispersion curve as the RU BBs
I also don't care for Petro, while still understanding that it's strong. Which makes it doubly annoying, because I have to suffer when I face it, while gaining no joy when I play it myself.

To me, in randoms anyway, I've found it to be boring to play. I agree that Des Moines is more fun to play. Henri IV is more fun as well, IMO. Out of all the T10 Russian cruisers, including Smolensk, I enjoy playing Nevsky the most, by far.

Petro was never OP people are just ass and go broadside and get punished for it so it’s “obviously OP” almost any ship wins a bow in battle against the petro just cause petro can’t over match, it’s accuracy is garbage with only the 2 front turrets and even the damage when it pens isn’t that impressive
