The untold story of unity and breaking of boundaries in the New England region through Professional Football when the NFL was first founded. The Providence Steam Roller had an 8 year life in the NFL from 1925-1933. The Steam Roller were way before their time in making history by doing a number of innovative things such as playing in the first night game, playing their home games in a bicycle racing stadium and playing 4 games in 6 days.

I guarantee you many, if not most, Rhode Islanders do not know a thing about the Steam Roller, the Cycledrome , or who Fritz Pollard was.
First New England team and last defunct team to win and NFL title (1928). The name came about because they were wrecking some team from Framingham and the owner heard it called a steam rolling. It stuck.

The video says it was against a team from New Bedford how they got their name. The game action part of the video was against a team from Framingham.
